However this seems to mostly be with other Japanese works as they pretty infamously rip off tons of US and EU media sometimes wholesale copying it.This also is part of why Japan has some of the strictest copyright laws, which also likely reinforced this taboo. Now days the internet seems to have broken it a little bit and with people like Kojima becoming legends basically built entirely off him ripping off western films.This is all to say the Japanese are weird and being seen as a copycat is a very bad thing for someone.
