Did you ever figure this out without looking it up?
I was so annoyed.
>>
>>12631016
no but it didn't really bother me
>>
>>12631019
I'm wagering that you're a bad person if it didn't bother you.
>>
>>12631016
It's been a while but you have to blast yourself over with a bomb, right? not sure if there's some other way but that was how i did it and it was an obvious solution.
>>
I only learned how to do this once I started playing randomizers.
>>
>>12631025
You dash into the blocks. The recoil of flying back will actually clear the pit.
There is no other application of this in the entire game.
>>
>>12631023
I figured it was something I missed along the way and you were supposed to hook shot out this exit right here. didn't bug me.
>>
>>12631029
I'm gonna cut off a horse's head and leave it in your bed.
>>
>>12631030
I'm gonna make this post and not care what random people on the internet think

Ah I guess I was thrown off taking the crack in the wall as a hint.
>>
>>12631016
yes, how do you "look it up" in the early 90's?
>>
>>12631062
Nintendo had a hotline you could call but it cost money.
>>
>>12631092
Not where I live
>>
>>12631016
I eventually figured it out yes but i can't remember what it was or why it was bad

anon, if i see a puzzle that's optional i think, wow there's secrets i can't even imagine hidden in the walls of this castle.... It's doesn't bother me because I actually enjoy the thought of there being something out of reach that I can go back and find later.
>>

The World Wide Web came out in 1994. Video game guides were one of the first things people thought to put up on websites.
>>
>>12631062
>Yes, how do you "look it up" in the early 90's?
The Nintendo Power strategy guide.
>>
>>12631129
There were BBSs before then also. I doubt that people were writing full guides back then but they probably shared cheat codes and solutions to obscure bullshit.
>>
>>12631131
Didn't have that
>>12631129
>The World Wide Web came out in 1994
And?
Most people didn't have internet in the 90's
>>
>>12631140
Access to the internet hit pretty fast and it wasn't at all unusual. Anyone at college had it and High Schools had internet-connected computer labs by 1995. Others had an internet connection at work. Even relatively poor people managed to afford the $20/month ISP account to get home internet. We only had an Apple2gs and I used Lynx browser on my home computer in 94/95 era. Basically anyone who wanted to get on the internet could in 1994 and there was a big PR push letting people know it existed and what it was.

The first things that got published by people were movie reviews, music websites talking about albums, stuff about drugs, jokes, and things like video game guides.
>>
>>12631016
Never figured it out or looked it up. I didn't even care at that point. I figured i had everything i needed, I was at the point where I was tired of playing the game and just wanted it to be over. I just assumed it'd be a room of rupees or arrows or some shit like that. I also thought that there could be a good chance that it was an exit and I either missed the entrance or hadn't got to it yet.
>>
>>12631016
Turtle Rock is worse. It's one of the worst Zelda dungeons ever.
>>
>>12631016
Yes, and I figured it out again, with no conscious memory of having done it the first time, by looking at the image and guessing.
>>
>>12631293
The mirror shield is one of the coolest items ever though.
>>
>>12631016
It's not something I specifically looked up, but later learned of the solution elsewhere. When trying to access it, I'm pretty sure I tried bomb jumping, reinforced by how that hack Parallel Towers makes you do it quite frequently.
So it's not something I figured out on my own, but it's also not required to beat the game. It's merely a trick to reach a room with some items and fairies.

It does however have a useful application elsewhere in Ganon's Lair to skip an invisible floor puzzle.
>>
>>12631016
Parallel Worlds uses this to just barely clear a larger gap, it's cool. Too bad the rest of the hack is just mazes, flying tiles, spikes, and beamos spam.
>>
>>12631016
Imagine if in an official Mario level there was an obstacle that you need to overcome using the shell jump technique. That's how this makes me feel.
>>
>>12631131
>>12631368
You didn't beat the game.

Wait, how the FUCK did I get across with a bomb then? Is that even possible or did I imagine it?
>>
>>12631016
As a kid being stuck in skull woods, one of the things I figured out in that dungeon was that I could clear small gaps by ramming into walls with the pegasus boots, so the solution here came to me naturally.
>>
>>12631497
Skull Woods filtered me because it took me forever to realize that the fire rod opens the final path of the dungeon
>>
>>12631028
>no other application of this in the game
Doesn't stop Sonic fans from endlessly defending the barrel and claiming they figured out what to do within seconds...
>>
>>12631876
Same
>fire rod doesn’t work on skulls
>the entrance is a giant skull
>>
>>12631016
No Internet at the time and no strategy guide either so just trial and error
>>
>>12631016
I don't remember what this pic is referring to, but yes, I beat this game without looking at guides. Or is this some mod stuff?
>>
I got fairly far in the game like the original Zelda by watching my older brother play it. I probably didn’t actually beat the entire game until late 90s when gamefaqs was a thing. Honestly, I’m pretty sure the first time I beat it was either on my modded Xbox or an emulator on PC. Don’t think I’ve ever finished the game on the original cart. Same thing w LoZ. I’ve only beaten the original Zelda once. I know I’ve beaten ALttP at least 4 times more likely 5-6. Every time I go back to it I have a harder and harder time which is odd since I’ve gotten much better at retro games across the board for all other genres and games.
>>
>>12631361
I usually stop playing once I get to Turtle Rock. I've probably only actually beaten the game about five times.

>mirror shield is one of the coolest items ever
Yeah, there's a reason it's been in every other Zelda game since they first came up with it.
>>
>>12631062
In a magazine or strategy guide, dumbass.
>>12631140
Most people are smarter than you, yet we still have to put up with your dumbass posts.
>>
>>12631016
Yeah use the magic cape and run across. Easy.

Bomb jumps are possible, but they're not intended game design and the positioning is very precise.

One of the most famous use cases is Ice Palace, because skipping this switch lets you skip major parts of the dungeon.
>>
>>12632719
Oh shit. Interesting. I always tried to get by that part with those things up. I've beaten that game like 50 times and I think I've only pushed the ice block on the switch once. I honestly don't know how to navigate through the dungeon the correct way, even though I've memorized all item locations and beat the game with a 000 file everytime.
>>
>>12631028
I don't think that was the intended strat. I vaguely remember getting there and never knowing about the jumping strat until I saw randomizers a few years ago.
>>
>>12632730
Quite a lot of people get stuck on the Ice Palace, since it makes you loop around to flip a switch.

They modified an important room in the GBA version so that you can't use the Cane of Somaria or a block from this floor, to press a switch on the floor below.
On the floor below you're expected to enter a side room for a small key, but it's easily skipped in the original release.

It's in Ganon's Tower.

Obviously not, because you are arguing that you needed help for the "puzzle" OP has shown
You only think you're smart
>>

>Cane of Somaria
It's called the red cane ya DINGUS
>>
>>12632738
What other way would there be to clear the gap?

Its amazing how many people tell on themselves by not knowing this. Depending on your region and income level, some people didn't have steady access to the internet till much later, we'd have to go to libraries to look shit up and write notes or pay even more to print shit up. And even the ones who did have internet at home, you better not be using it when someone in the house was expecting a phone call.
