After this game, nobody gave a fuck about Mario, and good riddance. Everyone wanted to make their own Sonic mascot and Sonic-style game. Even Nintendo tried with the pivot to Donkey Kong and Yoshi games. Mega Drive really did what nintendon't.

Sonic CD was the real inheritor of Sonic 1's gameplay.
>>12634515The pits and enemies will affect you and there's pretty high probability to botch the jump and end in the pit... but between the ramp and speed-up bonus there's also immunity bonus to pick up, just in case.Tho worth noting that by doing that you'll skip the hidden extra life and without that you'll not get the bonus extra life right before final boss. Not a huge deal, but it's funny that game has a small achievement for picking up all the bonus lives.
