I've burned at low speeds, burned with different drives, full size DVD-Rs with the top shell off, expensive mini DVD-Rs, tried on different GCs, no difference. It's not worth the headache. The SD2SP2 is the only way to go with GC mods these days anyway.

These days it's so trivial to install a non obtrusive ODE that retains the original drive that you'd never bother with anything else, you can even just softmod it by launching from a disc, if you're so inclined.
