Do you intend to show your future children the games and consoles of old when the time comes?
Don't let your toddler play GTA...give him kirby or something
>>12636010It's just funny colors bumping into each other. One of my earliest gaming memories is playing Doom, because of its vivid colors. Perfectly fine. It was so obviously over the top that I never took it serious one bit, it was just cool seeing those spirtes explode into intense red. That and Skyroads, I remember that 3D effect lke it was yesterday.
>>12636003I kept all of my consoles and handhelds in excitement to experience this. My kids don't seem super interested in videogames like I thought they would be. I think its a result of me being a good and attentive parent. They are way more interested in creating things rather than consuming them. I want to play 3 player games with them so badly but they just don't have the same amazement for videogames and technology that I do. I easily escaped into videogame worlds because my home-life was bad and my talents and skills were neglected instead of nurtured by my parents. My kids are more interested in making things that could be used in videogames rather than playing them.
yeah, she's mesmerized by Simpark and keeps spawning hundreds of predators that kill all herbivores and die themselves shortly after, just like I did when I was a kid. And she's as perplexed by tank controls in Blupimania as I was.
>>12636003Nah I don't think so.
>>12636003I'd like to, but I won't push it on them like I've seen other parents do with their own kids. My retro consoles, CRTs and gaming PC are all going to be in my basement room while I turn our office into the nursery. Wife and I will be trying again for a baby soon, since we suffered a late-term loss a few months ago.
>>12636112You have great taste. Maybe mine will want to play simpark later today. I have noticed that they prefer to play old pc games rather than old console games. Not sure why that is.
>>12636110You sound like a good father anon
>>12636130My condolences to you and your wife, friend.
>>12636003that kid is going to be hopelessly made fun of because they grew up on uncslop instead of playing the hot new game(s) everyone else is. anyone have that webcomic of the milliennial parents forcing their kids to like things they grew up on?
>>12636003not gonna have children. dogshit genes shouldn't spread.
>>12636003Yes.
>>12636010>Don't let your toddler play GTA...give him kirby or somethingOh no. I've seen what kirby does to kids. He's getting GTA as soon as he knows what a car and traffic is.
I've let my 3 year old play 5 mins of Mario world and sonic 3 so far, both on a gameboy micro and a chinkheld. I wanted to start her on some accessible games to not put her off but I'm also not pushing it. I never play games in front of her, like the other anon here we are raising her together with plenty of human interaction, creating things and playing and without screens to pacify her. It's really noticeable when we meet other families where the kids are allowed veg out in front of tvs and tablets for hours. If shes interested in a few years then it will be a nice family treat for us to play some video games together every now and again
>>12636003I fucking despise children.
>>12636003I've never seen a baby disappointed in an adult like that before
>>12636003
>>12636010No son of mine is going to be a tendie.
I really fucking hate parents how post their little kids with video games for useless internet points. Plebbit is full of this shit
>>12636130>I'd like to, but I won't push it on them like I've seen other parents do with their own kids. You'll find that kids have their own drives and interests. I've played a variety of games with the kids watching and they respond differently depending on their personalities and the game in question. My son had loved cars and racing from a young age. He enjoyed Mario Kart (8 deluxe) a lot. But at one point he saw me playing F-Zero for SNES and was absolutely entranced. Became obsessed with F-Zero, only wanted to play that. Would go chalk up the driveway with F-Zero courses all with names derived from the real F-Zero courses. He also likes Mega Man and is really into drawing out Mega Man levels on paper, with lots of spikes and platforms and lava and boss battles and so on (I did the same then when I was his age, drawing out pretend Super Mario Brothers levels)I think there's something about the colorful clarity and simplicity of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras that distinctly appeals to some kids.>>12636374Cringe cynic
I had my 4 year old niece playing crash bandicoot 1 (on OG hardware as i've got it all set up) when I was babysitting the other week. That was a lot of fun.
>>12636257>grew up on uncslop instead of playing the hot new game(s) everyone else isDoesn't work that way now. Kids now don't give a shit about anything but Roblox, and FOTM games are obsoleted in a year anyway by their nature so it doesn't matter what you "grow up on." Most importantly nobody with the term "uncslop" so forward in their brain has ever been cool, period.
>>12636257Games for kids now are actively predatory towards them. Between mobileslop, Roblox and Fortnite (the platform, not BR specifically) everything is trying to groom them into ravenous consoomers and that isn't even getting into the actual child predator problem. Raising them on games from 20-30 years ago may be "millennial cringe" but at the very least it's a safe curated experience.
>>12636294>I've seen what kirby does to kidsNo you haven't.
>>12636464>yeah my kid may get made fun of because he doesn't play fortnite 2 like all the other kids...but at least he ain't no goddamn PLEB!you're basically raising the kid to be a future 4chan user
>future childrenHaving children and liking children is for pedos.
>>12636464this. thanks, my esl ass wouldn't say that in a better way.
>>12636474Agreed. Sit in a corner and rot. That's the only way to avoid being called names.
>>12636470>projectionWhat you don't realize is that the kids who get sucked into modern games lose all their social skills and aren't making fun of anybody. The kid who puts the crack machine down to go play sportsball or otherwise touch grass is the one getting the girls.
>>12636470It's not about having good taste. The kid could become obsessed with Madden 2005 for all I care. They're not getting turned into a gambling addict by ultimate team or sending pictures of their feet to creeps over discord.
>>12636465Clearly you've never been on /v/.
>>12636484>the kids who get sucked into modern games lose all their social skills and aren't making fun of anybody.why would you think bullying has magically stopped? just because it doesn't happen IRL as much anymore doesn't mean it isn't happening. >>12636485you're acting like there's nothing you can do to shield them from the more harmful/addictive aspects of modern gaming. many of those games have parental controls. fortnite doesn't require a credit card to play so what's the solution? just don't input one. it's all about balance. you can go ahead and play old games with them but if there's some new game their friend group is into and they really want to play it too, your response can't be "NO YOU'RE GOING TO PLAY SCRIMBLO BIMBLO 2 AND BEAT IT LIKE I DID AT YOUR AGE AND THAT'S FINAL" unless you want to harbor resentment in the kid.
>>12636615I don't think anyone in this thread are going to force their children to complete an old game like you think they are going to. If you raise your child with good values, interact with them and teach them to think for themselves then chances are they will work out quickly that stuff like gacha mechanics, cosmetics for sale etc are a waste of money
>>12636003Sure. Won't force them to only play old games or anything, but I want them to have the frame of reference of a few classics, and more importantly I also want to make sure that they learn how to interact with a personal computer in a basic sense (how to use a mouse and keyboard, how to interact with folders and programs, how to install and uninstall programs, etc). Then, if they never intend to use a computer again, shame, but fine, maybe they'll change their minds or need it for a job some day. Maybe they'll also like some old games, maybe they won't, but they can at least say that they've tried.>>12636110Sounds like you did well regardless.>>12636112lmao nice>>12636257>>12636374>>12636615Nobody's talking about holding their son at gun point and forcing them to 1cc NES arcade ports all day, you insipid and histrionic faggots. Just have them try out a few, and watch you play a few, just so they can see what some games can be like, and that's that.If anything, if they don't like old games but like new games, it'd make them appreciate the new games yet more.
>>12636110>Make videogames, don't play them- Terry Davis>>12636438You gotta get him on MegaMaker, it's a level editor for classic Mega Man, or better yet, make his levels for him as a surprise
>>12636130That's fucking harsh as hell, man, I really wish you two the best on this try.Not being pushy and forceful about this with your kid is actually important, but I also want to make sure that you don't think you have to hide it or anything. Let your future progeny come and see what they're like if they want.>>12636438>You'll find that kids have their own drives and interests. Well of course, we were once them, and they will become us. In a figurative way of course.Hell, dogs have distinct personalities.>My son had loved cars and racing from a young age. That's very adorable. But yes, if you're gonna introduce your kids to games, games which are aligned with what they already like makes a lot of sense.>He also likes Mega Man and is really into drawing out Mega Man levels on paper, with lots of spikes and platforms and lava and boss battles and so on (I did the same then when I was his age, drawing out pretend Super Mario Brothers levels)Hey, I did stuff like that as a kid, drawing out little levels for Mario, Megaman, etc.>I think there's something about the colorful clarity and simplicity of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras that distinctly appeals to some kids. They have something going for them in that way, yeah.
>>12636470The fact you took an argument about predatory monetization and replied to it like it was about superiority in taste really shows your incapacity to read or comprehend.
>>12636374>I AM SILLY!
>>12636704>You gotta get him on MegaMaker, it's a level editor for classic Mega Man, or better yet, make his levels for him as a surpriseBetter: make some of them, then one of your own, then show it to him, and then show him how to use the software.
>>12636003I'm not going to force it on them but if they see me playing retro vidya and want to play too I'll let them.I've noticed that too many millennials make it a personal mission to force retro shit on their children. If you do that and they get into it, just know that you're sentencing them to a life of never fitting in with their peers. Police their use of modern bullshit, sure. But don't force them to be different just so you can relive your childhood through them.
>>12636864>every modern game has predatory monetizationstupid retard
>>12636464There are enough standalone indie and AA games that don't do that, that you don't even need to force retro shit on them. Just don't let them play the predatory games is all. They'll still have endless options.
>>12636003I have kids and they play retro, they’re favorites are >Mario Party 2>SMB2>capcom vs snk2>Soul CalibreThey also hated the sonic party game I bought an extra 2 dc controllers for
>>12636945>SMB2Surprising choice given how dog shit the controls are.
>>12636003No. If they're interested then I'll show them but beyond that, those are for me.
>>12636374if your son doesn't like a single thing you do you are have got to be a horrible parent/person. and whoever drew that is definitely that and had to project their own insecurities over his son having nothing to do with him.
>>12636615the best thing you could possibly do with your child is make him not be around any videogame playing loser in the first place
>>12636950They don't care, they're kids, and it's a fun game.
>>12636979true but playing video games is also a great way to bond with your kids. it's something i wish my parents did but they just bought them for me so i'd shut up and leave them alone
>>12636394>No son of mineExactly
>>12636941There's even a 3d platformer where you play as the mascot of a children's hospital, it's called Castle on the Coast. Not retro, but seems competent and very kid-friendly, so I figured I'd let the parents ITT know about it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6BLrcc0-JA>>12637174I didn't mind not playing games with my parents since I've always preferred the singleplayer experience, but it vexed me how I never could get them to appreciate, or at least show any interest, in games like I did.Except for one game. The Emperor's New Groove on PC. Mom found Kuzco hilarious and liked how the game was so much more colorful and lighthearted than the usual stuff I played (e.g., Quake). That was also the only one I ever got her to actually play, with me, because child me couldn't mash the buttons fast enough to outrun the panthers in the last Jungle Night level.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AoTlX3EU0Y
>>12636374So true, it's better to raise your kids on goycattle slop like Cocomelon and Miss Rachel instead of being CRINGE and REDDIT
