What is definitively the best non-Nintendo handheld console? Assuming that all games in their respective libraries are compared along with the hardware themselves. Obviously none touch the various Game Boys, but surely we must be able to reach a concensus on what gets the silver medal.
>>12636361Gold: Gameboys (All of them)Silver: WonderswanBronze: Neogeo Pocket4th place: Gamegear
>>12636361Retro: Game GearNot retro: PSP
PSP is king.
>>12636361NGPC
>>12636361Wonderswan was the only serious competitor but it was fucked by Bandai chickening out of non-Japanese release.I suppose NeoGeo Pocket was also pretty good but kinda pricey?Other are either Gameboy clones with little to no games or tried to push ideas that were not viable with contemporary tech. Even Nintendo themselves stepped into that trap with Virtual Boy.
>>12636427You are high as hell. The Wonderswan and NeoGeo Pocket had absolutely dogshit libraries compared to the Game Gear.
>>12636442Yes but they also don't devour six AAA batteries for less than four hours of gameplay, which is ultimately what killed Game Gear.Rich library means jack shit if you cannot play the fucking games because you're spending more time swapping batteries than actually playing.

12636459I assume that you're trolling or are very retarded.
PSP was the best
>>12636442Neogeo Pocket and Wonderswan have WAY more interesting and better libraries than the gamegear
>>12636550FUCK I LOVE LICENSED ANIME GAMES
>>12636550Delusional weeb. You will NEVER be Japanese.
>early to mid 90'sGame Gear. The only other competition was the Lynx>late 90's/early 00'sWonderswan, NGC is good but not enough gamesPutting the Game Gear and Wonderswan in the same bag is fucking retarded. They did not live in the same era. The Game Boy died in 1995 and was only revived by Pokémon years later; the Game Gear was already long over with when the Wonderswan and NGC appeared. You might as well pit the PS2 against the Megadrive.
>>12636551>>12636557>Japan bad but Sega goodDelusional Sega Cope
>>12636561Japan is good but shovelware is bad. The Wonderswan was full of cheap cash in licensed games.
>>12636564Same people that treat Garfield as a classic Genesis masterpiece btw
>>12636569You're putting words in my mouth to cope with the fact that you like shitty licensed games just because they come from anime. I accept your concession.
>>12636573No I just finding funny "licensed bad" on other consoles but when it's some shitty licensed genesis game about Garfield or some shit Disney ip they are suddenly classics
>>12636361Correct answer: a J2ME-powered cell phone.
>>12636590ew anon
>>12636363>gameboys>non-nintendoare you retarded
N-Gage sweeps
>>12636595Some of the JP Java games were pretty cool. Sadly, most of them are lost media because Nips can't into preservation.
>>12636550WS is only better if you prefer non action games. NGP has arguably better playing action games, but its library is so small that the games you could pick as standouts for comparison get absolutely dwarfed by the options on the GG.
>>12637080Honestly it would have been a damn good competition to the gba if it was just a game system and maybe rework the controls. It just came out too late and the DS/PSP destroyed the graphical edge it had. Some really interesting titles on it and impressive graphical capabilities.
>>12636427They advertised NeoGeo pocket but it was cancelled before I could get it. I think it was $99, same price as GBC at the time. There were rumours that something shifty happened for the NGP to be cleared off shelves in America.
>>12637532>There were rumours that something shifty happened for the NGP to be cleared off shelves in America.Yeah, it was SNK going bankrupt.
>>12636558>NGC is good but not enough gamesAlmost every game is good though. More than half of the library is worth checking out at least, unlike many consoles.
>>12636363Platinum: Lynx
>>12636558Late 90s early 00s GamePark was the patricians choice.
>>12637532You could get their liquidated stock for really cheap in the early 2000s from online retailers and in store at EB Games and GameStop. I suspect that's how most people in the US actually got theirs as opposed to when SNK was still in buisness and it was officially on store shelves.
>>12637719It has a bunch of slot machine BS titles on it which drags down its near perfect score.
>>12637719I'm not into fighters anymore so I count 9 games worth playing, 10 if you include the Biomotor Unitron sequel but I thought it was shit even though the first game was good
>>12636550NGP and WS suffer from the same problem: too narrow a selection of game genres. If you don't like fighting games in the former case and licensed JRPGs in the latter you're fucked. For all the hate you can sling at the Game Gear, it had least had a lot of variety.
>>12636551Yes
>>12636361Psp1 by far. That system was fantastic
>>12636442For real wtf is this thread. These jesters clearly got filtered by Chakan, Sonic 2, and other titles only fit for alpha chads.
>>12641525Not retro
>>12636361Sega Nomad is the only answer. It mogs the Game Gear in every way, it’s got better ergonomics, it has a way better game library, it’s not even much bigger than a Game Boy.
>>12636369This. Although for not-retro, at this point I'd say there's a few chinkhelds that can be considered the best. PSP was great for a while, but in terms of overall emulation capabilities, it has been dethroned.
>>12641554The Nomad is kind of cheating because it's still the Genesis library. Game Gear had its own unique games.
>>12641554Never understood why the Nomad didn't just become the successor to the GG and Genesis. Sega could have kept releasing 16bit games for it and bragging up until the gba that they had the best portable on the market.
