>Vagrant Story is 57.18% decompiledhttps://decomp.dev/ser-pounce/rood-reverseYou know what this means right? One of the most impressive but flawed games of the PS1 will be getting a full native port to modern systems, as well as the chance for fan patches to fix the various glaring issues in the game. Real time combat perchance?
>>12636975>The Legend of Vagrancy
>decompilationsI'm straight tho
>>12636975Higher poly models would be kino if done right
>>12636975I want to like this game, but damn, it's just cutscene after cutscene.
Will they give it a better translation?
Cool. Now I'll finally be able to navigate menus for 90% of the game on the PC instead of on an emulator.
>>12637305there is like a few minutes of cutscenes at the beginning but then it's pretty much pure dungeon crawling. did we play the same game?
>repo includes a nix flakeI never thought returning to retro games would collide with my nixos obsession, weirdlooking forward to this releasing
Playable Merlose fucking when????
>>12636975real time combat would revolutionize the game. make it a whole differnt thing.
>>12637773>Changing a core element changes the core elementWow
So did any of the decomped other stuff result in anything worthwhile?
>Finally we can get cheat hacks for the game!
Bless the modding community for making all those old clankers finally playable!! I can't wait to take a picture of the game running in 120 FPS and 4K with the double experience and turbo speed settings turned on so I can get upvotes and likes on YouTube and Reddit! My followers will be fuming! #RetroGaming #PS1 #WhatsaPSX
>>12638668shit posting.
>>12638668the original game is there and never going away. This will also allow for proper source ports that are also very accurate to the original. In addition, people can also now fuck around with the game and do whatever. Online and netplay is always fun in these kind of games. And i do believve that netplay, co-op, and pvp is going to revive many old 3D games from the 90s and 00s.
>>12636975cool cant wait for no one to do anything with this
>>12636975I bet this game can be ported 1:1 on N64, I want to see a N64 and a Dreamcast port.
>>12637230the graphics are perfect already, why ruin the nicest looking low poly game ever made by making it generic slop we've seen 1000 times already.the only thing vagrant story needs are seperate load outs you can swap on the fly to reduce menu time and a better new game+ that beefs up the monsters way more, either that or just give us the post game on the first playthrough.
>>12639752yeah, just running it in proper 3D without any of the PS1s short cuts would be fine. it'd be like a proper PC port from 2000. >>12639746The game is pretty big, and the textures are the biggest hurtle more likely. If you reduce the quality of the textures, I think it can be ported. Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid could also be fully ported as well. The only issue is that SH has a few FMV videos, and MGS has a LOT of blabbing on the codec. A MGS 64 would require a major cutback in the audio and heavy compression.
>>12636975>says the game has glaring issues>only talks about wanting real time combatFucking retard, the biggest problem people had was the endless loading screens to just access the menu.
>>12637491>there is like a few minutes of cutscenesalmost 140 min aren't that few, anon-kunhttps://youtu.be/sjjX2WHzjjk?si=UVxOBzDnM95KQlWS
>>12639763>The game is pretty bigA 768-megabit game might be small for the PSOne, but it’s massive by N64 standards. The N64’s largest commercial cartridges are Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Pokémon Stadium 2 and Resident Evil 2, each with a capacity of 512 megabits. I wonder if the N64 could handle an all-mighty gigabit. Is that theoretically possible?
>>12639806game is shit in a pan anon.
So theoretically, we could finally give that guy a haircut?
>>12637230bait
>>12636975I'm usually non-enthused by decomps, but in this case it might be a good thing. The priority should be removing all the annoying loading everytime you interact with anything in the menu. >>12639746It uses tons of effects that rely on PSX's quirks. >>12639921Spaced over what, a 20-30 hour game? That's nothing, it's not MGS4. Don't be a fucking baby. Tendie hysteria about feeling raped if they experience 15 seconds of cutscenes needs to end, grow up already.
His hair is too dumb. I'm not playing
>>12636975My biggest and only problem with this game is that you need a save slot for your items, but that save slot would corrupt for no reason at any moment, forcing you to restart the whole thing
>>12636975already played it on emulator
>>12641070Not an issue with emulation.Almost certainly your memory card
>>12640061Bleemcast fucking emulated ps1 games bro. Native ports run better than emulation
>>12636975How do I get into this? Where do you start?I've done some emulator hacking before but this shit always seems next level. How do I even begin?>>12637491>>12639921>>12640061Cutscenes are 2 hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjjX2WHzjjkLongplay is 18 hours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z01XYQJmNW0And as anyone who has played it can tell you, NG+ triples the time at least.
>>12636975>>12637230>>12639752I wanna see Callo Merlose, Lady Samantha, Lady Neesa and Tia in varying levels of hairy armpits, happy trails, legs, ass, forearms and nipples.
>>12641146>>12641070this actually happened to me on an emulator one time. no idea how. I had a save state so I was fine but without I would have been fucked.
>>12641161how about you go watch some pornography instead of demanding an actually good videogame become your next disgusting, degenerate smut.
>>12641149I was replying to anon's assertion that the N64 could run it 1:1, not DC.
>>12641157>>12641157>How do I get into this? Where do you start?Game decomping is tedious work that has to be done line by line. There's a guy who streams his work decompiling SotN, so you can see exactly what is done. The process is similar for any game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PMBFAI1Js4
This game is really important in the history off Square and J-RPGs. 1. Matsuno had a lot of prestige built up with his work on Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics, so he was given his first big budget project. To this day, Tactics Ogre is considered to be a classic that the Japanese players like to this day. 2. The game was a huge commercial failure, and Square specifically said that its failure was due to the protagonist being too macho and masculine. So this is why FF protagonists ever since have been sissy pretty boys and kind of pigeonholed them. 3. Kingdom Hearts was released in 2002 and was a smash success, meaning that was more of the direction the company would go in, as well as promoting Nomura within the creative division. So if things had played out differently, Square would be in a different direction entirely. Matuso worked on FF12, but stepped down, and my suspicion is that they had no confidence in him and feared another financial bomb. The kind of game that Matsuo wanted to make is not a game that Square had any interest in making after the 2000s.
>>12636975>>12637773I only played Vagrant Story because of its unique gameplay, if you make it realtime then it loses all value and meaning to try it.
decompilation doesn't automatically mean portsomeone still has either to gut out all the hardware-specific code or wrap it up in some translation later for it to work on other systems
