I mean, they all have strong communities, and most players are deeply committed, but many can be pretty harsh toward newcomers. Back in the day I used to play PSO but nowdays is full of filthy troons, I haven’t played FFXI, but I know people are still playing it, just like Monster Hunter G and DOS on PS2, which aren’t MMOs but are still online-focused.When was the last time you joined a retro MMO? Are you committed to one? Did you run into any trouble with the community because you were a complete newbie?
>>12637994I joined runescape in 2004. It's a shitty game. MMOs are shit. Come on.
>>12637994WoW private servers are apparently good.
LOTRO is the only MMO with a good community, and not just good for an MMO.
>>12637994It definitely isn't easy and it will cost you a lot of time and reading.
>>12638000If you enjoy playing with Russians and other turdworlders.
>>12637994No I tried Project Quarm and everyone was extremely hostile for no reason. If you don't have 10000 hours in them already I wouldn't bother.
Still up and running. As awesome as it was since 2005.https://www.sherwooddungeon.com/
>>12637994Either they will kick you for not having played for a quadrillion hours already, or -if they accept newcomers - they will kick you for not spending every single day of your live playing that particular game and making their gay discord your sole social circle. So yeah, unless you aren't already hyper obsessed with a game, it's not really comfy.
>>12637994No, you had to be there at the time. Even if you were there at the time, they suck now due to (whole essay)
Alright I'll do the whole essayMMOs were a product of the emerging wild west of the internet. Online communication was a novelty and being able to adventure and progress extremely slowly in a game ticked off several human brain chemicals which made it cripplingly addictive. The warm childhood like colours of games like RuneScape and WoW triggered something in the mind. The games were also growing slowly and the future was uncertain. People played the games and were mostly clueless on efficiency etc just did what felt right at the time and we're more keen to just waste time and mess around or play mini games Now it's a solved PRODUCT long since sold off to a corporation, the challenge is gone, the risk is gone, heavily censored redacted and cucked. It's no longer early internet so the social aspect is gone. Wouldn't be surprised If companies fake player number or add bots to the games themselves. It's a completely different experience compared to 2004-2007 golden age. Similar to 4chans decline
>>12637994>filthy troonsI've got some bad news about FFXI, anon...
>>12637994Still talk to some guys I raided w in vanilla wow when classic plus came out a year or 2 ago. They were very based. They were all irl friends in the New Jersey area so very stereotypical shit talk one of them was a body builder obsessed w Colombian women, literally went down to Colombia a few times just to do drugs and fuck chicks. Anyway, there are some real freaks in guilds but you will know within a day or two whether or not people are chill. Also Barrens chat as recently as classic plus dropping was pretty insane and didn’t see bans going out for the crazy shit that was said. I love vanilla wow tho and will always be interested in it since I got so good at it (raided Sunwell as a Tank, Healer, and DPS which is one of the hardest raids in classic). People generally in vanilla wow are pretty nice because they want people for the guild that will consistently fill spots for raids. People will also bend over backwards in some cases for you, if you have a class everyone needs like Shaman. If you can play Shaman at a decent lvl every guild will want you.
>>12638437They sound insufferable I bet they laugh at fart and dick jokes
>>12638452You're too good for dick and fart jokes, huh?
>frognonot possible for you
>>12638275>if they accept newcomers - they will kick you for not spending every single day of your live playing that particular game and making their gay discord your sole social circle. That was my experience when I joined a WOW guild on warmane, it was a guild full of my fellow countryman and even joining the guild was like a job interview lolI just left day later
>>12638395>MMOs were a product of the emerging wild west of the internet.>RuneScape and WoWlol, newfags
>>12638074>LOTROI heard they ruined the game with a recent update, is that true?
>>12637994**First Second Generation Blizzard Hacker of Power Plants stands in your way**How would you ever be able to confront such MMO Demi-God?Better give up now, kiddo.
>>12638993You STILL think about that asshole? Jesus, what do you do in your spare time?
>>12638000this but with FFXI
>>12637994There are actually people hanging out on dead and rotting MMOs spending 4-8 hours a day there in chat with their maxed out characters. Talking about current events and hobbies like it's regular social media. Rolling a new character when every they get bored enough. They have played through every bit of content. Most of the players they played with died or left over a decade ago. Worse some of these MMOs still require some monthly payment, so they are paying a monthly fee to some Korean or Eastern European company to keep a glorified chat room alive. Is it autism? Loneliness? Or toxic nostalgia that makes people act this way?
>>12642095>Is it autism? Loneliness? Or toxic nostalgia that makes people act this way?idk bbut it sounds cool
>>12637994>is full of filthy troons,That's pretty much most mmos today>playing mmos post-2014
