Explain crichtonmania to me
>>12639680>Explain crichtonmania to mejurassic park was good so they tried to force a bunch of his other memes which mostly didnt work
He wrote "Jurassic Park", Anon. You can't seriously be asking why there was such a buzz surrounding his other properties available for adaptation after that film's huge success. A better question to ask is how they managed to fuck up the 2000 game "Timeline", based on his book of the same name, which is IMO an even better story to adapt than "Jurassic Park" was, at least for a video game.
>>12639686doom was in this movie, is this why the saturn game is a shooter too?
>>12639696It seems like every time I look there is another Crichton video game that exists. Is the crichtoncore meme magic working?
>>12639692Pretty much. Plus his books were high concept which usually translates well to blockbuster type movies. It's just that his writing style was actually more thoughtful and deep than the Jurassic Park film got across and he was just seen as an action film writer, but his other stories didn't translate as well to the screen. Earlier films like The Andromeda Strain got it right though.
>>12639680the Congo movie is one of the funniest pieces of garbage ever made. highly recommended.
Crichton's books are shit, but he knows how to make money for Hollywood. People don't realize he wrote and directed Westworld. He's a movie guy really.
congo>jurassic park
>>12640051I liked Sphere
>>12640051The movie not the show since he died in 2008
>>12640046I like when the guy loses his brain but still runs for 100 yards
>>12640059In comedic terms, yes.>>12640678I liked The 13th Warrior, even though it’s kind of a lackluster adaptation of Eaters of the Dead, which was a really cool concept for a novel. Anyway, Crichton is hit-or-miss for me, but I always find it hilarious he abandoned being a medical doctor after a short career because he absolutely couldn’t stand his patients.
>>12640046>the Congo movie is one of the funniest pieces of garbage ever made. highly recommended. It has Bruce Campbell and Tim Curry in it, unfortunately not at the same time. But yeah that alone makes it a great movie.
>>12640984>Eaters of the Dead, which was a really cool concept for a novelIt was just a copy of Beowulf by an extra narrator.
>>12639680>Explain crichtonmania to meNigga was literally 6'9", he farmed mad aura.
>>12640678I watched Sphere a year or two ago after having vague memories of it as a child and felt it was a hugely wasted opportunity for a movie with such a kino concept: "A spaceship is discovered under three hundred years' worth of coral growth at the bottom of the ocean."
>>12639696>A better question to ask is how they managed to fuck up the 2000 game "Timeline", based on his book of the same nameMichael Crichton himself was the director of that game though?
Jurassic Park Trespasser is the ultimate work of Crichtoncore ONLY if you're playing for the atmosphere
>>12641014and Winston from Ghostbusters.
>>12641580WTF
>>12641014
Jurassic Park printed money and was the biggest thing from the 90s, everyone was convinced that everything Chrichton wrote was guaranteed money.
>>12641590Part of this, ultimately, is the fact that Sharon Stone can't act and drags down anything she's in. But another part of it is that Sphere is kind of a shitty book and it's fairly difficult to convey the reality-warping nature of it in a film compared to a book, so they needed to make changes. But even the book is a hugely missed opportunity.
Why didn't Stephen King core take off in the video game scene?
>>12643417VIdeo games were still for kids then, and Stephen King is for women.
>>12643417Where's the 'jak edit?
>>12643417This movie made Stephen King seethe, and it's based for that.
>>12643417>Smash tv is a legally distinct adaption of the running man.>The Mist directly inspired silent hill in part, the town covered in mist and winged beasts bit, that came from king. It's not much but it's something
