So far I've played:>Final Fantasy II (IV)>Final Fantasy III (VI)>Chrono Trigger>Super Mario RPG>Secret of Mana>Secret of Evermore>Soul Blazer>Illusion of Gaia>TerranigmaI liked/loved all of them but what other normie picks are there? Don't post some obscure bullshit. I just want to play all of the most common and expected RPGs for the system.
Final Fantasy V, Seikendetsetsu 3 and the Sailor Moon RPG would've been normie if they came out in the west. (Sailor Moon had just come to the west, was somewhat popular because of the anime aesthetic and a tie in game would've done decently)
>>12644162I've tried tried but not completed all three of those, with at least 3-4 hours put into each. I liked Sailor Moon RPG the most even though I've never watched the series. Only reason I didn't finish it was because the emulator I was using turned out to be dog shit. SD3 got super tedious after a certain point and FF5 felt a little too grindy for my tastes. SM RPG was cool though. Fun battle system.
Lufia 2
>>12644161Star Ocean and Earthbound, obviously. You could've just asked an AI for a list
>>12644161Tales Of Phantasiahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ldnlNPSdwg
FF Mystic Quest. Has one or two good ideas, but it's more interesting as to why it exists, and besides its soundtrack, sucks otherwise.
>>12644161Breath of Fire
>>12644379Forgot to list it but I already played that one too. It was an interesting play through at least.
So it's down to these:>Earthbound>Breath of Fire>Lufia>Star Ocean>Tales of PhantasiaIf I was in the mood for something more simplistic or short which of these would be best to play first? If any of them aren't that short but feel like a breeze to play that's fine also.
>>12644481Earthbound and Tales of Phantasia are the most complete ones. Breath of Fire and Lufia and Star Ocean are more barebones. Breath of Fire 3 and 4 for Playstation are way better games, same with Star Ocean 2 for Playstation and Lufia 2 for SNES outshines the first one. If you planning to play the later entries, they are good enough but if you looking for iconic experiences then Earthbound and Tales of Phantasia are better.
>>12644493Huh, I always thought Star Ocean was some huge game because why else use a custom chip?
>>12644513I think it's because Star Ocean 1 wasn't translated to English until way later and western weeabos had already played Star Ocean 2 that got its official release in West so the target audience was already accustomed to Star Ocean 2's quality. But since you haven't played Star Ocean 2 yet, Star Ocean 1 will do just fine.
>>12644513Oh I see. It was a decompression chip, which means they were just trying to save cartridge space.
>>12644517Cool I'll probably go with that one then. Thanks anons.
>>12644161those last four are borderline obscure. def not normie shit, atleast not at the time anyway.
>>12644161Paladin's Quest is pretty good. It's got a banging soundtrack, and the battle system is really fast and cool. Kind of like Earthbound, but obviously not as good. Lots of different party members you can exchange out with. Graphics are extremely unique. They were criticized when it came out, but I think they've aged well since they are so unique. Very pastel themed.
>>12644481Final Fantasy V is a must play above all those.
