Why don't you listen to the developers shitters?>Meijin (Programmer): If you're aiming for a high score, you've got to destroy every enemy on-screen and get a perfect rating! That's relatively easy to do in Stages 3, 5, and 10, so make sure you get them there. There are a number of hidden items, so ferret those out and grab them whenever you can. Also, be sure to destroy the bosses' weakpoints for the clear bonuses… for those of you with that level of confidence, if you can make it to the end without buying any weapons at all you will get a special bonus.>Wakio: However you do it is fine, but definitely try and 1CC the game. If you can do that, a moving ending will be your reward! Now begins the age of the Navy!https://www.shmuplations.com/usnavy/
>>12645313>Shoei Okano (Planning): My advice is to credit feed your first plays until you've memorized the different enemy patterns. If you do that, it will be much easier to get the 1CC. Once you've accomplished that, other score-related challenges await: you can try aiming for a perfect rating on each stage, or not buy any weapons, or search for the hidden items. The gameplay changes a lot depending on which player ship you choose, so be sure to try them all out and aim for a 1CC on each of them.
>>12645318So credit feeding is OK and valid? Cool
>>12645327Well, yeah learn the game and practice the parts you haven’t experienced much, so you can eventually pull it off on one credit.
>>12645327How else do you think people get good at arcade games? A game so easy that you can 1CC it the first time sounds boring as fuck.
>>12645334Wouldn't save states do a better job at that? Even if you credit feeding you're still only doing that section once except with being instantly revived for failing
>>12645353This is a interview from 1990, there are no save states on CPS1 hardware.
>>12645353You couldn't savestate at an actual machine anon. If you're playing on emulator there is nothing wrong with using savestates to learn and practice at a game. The issue comes from people using them in regular runs and depriving themselves from any actual challenge.
>>12645353>section once except with being instantly revived for failingNot necessarily, you can just fly around and endlessly dodge without firing until the boss times out(if its a checkpoit based system you can just suicide right before he dies). Then of course if you die on say stage 4, its still worth playing through the next stage because you have even less experience with that one.
