>Add second stick and L3/R3 buttons>Split Start triangle in two and make the left half a Back button>Keep C/Z buttons from the Saturn pad>Add 2 bumpers>Make the VMU's buttons clickable while in the controller, with a removable cover for aestheticsAnd that's it. The perfect controller.
>>12646657I mean, we did get the Duke.
>>12646657First you should use a Philips 1 driver and you're gonna need one with a long shaft for the screw wells in the grips. Good luck fixing the controller.
>>12646671Good, but could be better.
>>12646657>>12646671One thing I like about the Dreamcast/Xbox/GameCube controllers is that you use your index fingers for the triggers; it makes you feel like you're really shooting the gun, unlike. The Dualshock setup has you shoot with your middle finger instead, but I think the bumpers should be positioned further down to be operated with your ring finger (or pinky if you prefer), which some modern controllers have. That way you can still pull the triggers with your index fingers.
>>12647368>unlikeUnlike Dualshock, obviously.
>>12646657>Keep C/Z buttons from the Saturn padStupid fucking idea
>>12647389Why is that?
>>12647410Most Saturn games didn't use all 6 buttons for anything significant. You've already added a second stick, 5 other buttons/bumpers, and made VMU buttons usable. So what's the point of adding C and Z back on?
>>12647418More buttons. Cant hurt. Especially for fightans.
>>12647420Isn't that what they sold arcade sticks for?
>>12647420>Especially for fightansIt's more ergonomic to use the fingers already conveniently placed on the shoulder buttons than to move your thumb across from A to C. Six buttons only become ergonomic with an arcade stick since you're not holding it in your hands and can therefore spare 5 fingers for the 6 buttons.
>>12646657the dreamcast... is SAVED
>>12647482>C and Z aren't parallel with AB/XYOne job.
>>12647483it's less ergonomic if each row is perfectly parallel
>>12647487The N64 did it (albeit with differently sized buttons). Camera control in Mario 64 or switching items in Zelda would be awkward if they weren't parallel.
>>12647494I'd say that that arrangement was used more like a d-pad than a true 6-button configuration
>>12647482Now we have an xbox controller and virtua on should werk as intended
The only thing that needed to be fixed was the D-Pad by slapping a Saturn one onto it.
>>12647532It really needed six buttons IMO
>>12647534Other than fighting games (for which there were Saturn-style pads available), can you name any DC games that suffered from not having 2 extra face buttons?
>>12647538all of 'em. the controller having less buttons than the PS1 controller from 1994 was a big mistake
>>12647541How would two extra buttons have improved Sonic Adventure? You can explain in 2,000 characters or less.
>>12647543no, fuck you lol. no excuses for having only 6 action buttons on a controller in 1998
>>12647545I accept your concession.
>>12647546It's not up for debate.
>>126466572 more additional face buttons to continue the Genesis/Saturn layout. Seemed so dumb to drop it, and would've helped a ton for all the fighting game ports>inb4 arcade sticks>inb4 third party six button padsYou are encouraging additional jewry by telling people to waste more money on additional peripherals for a system that was supposed to be an "arcade at home, sometimes even better". If that's what your product is going for, it should be exactly that out of the box.And while I never had a problem with dpad, I would replace it with a Saturn one, just for legacy reasons. No second stick wasn't a huge problem in 1998, it was still uncharted territory for camera control.>>12647418>>12647538Play MVC1, SFA3, or Third Strike on DC and tell us how fun it is to have additional travel distance for high punch/kick.
>>12646657They originally intended to put the C and Z buttons. They really should have shipped that version of the controller. These threads do nothing for me. What is done is done. Be glad you get to have lots of controller options these days for your PC. Even the Switch gives a lot of options for controllers.
>>12647549Then instead of needing to justify your end points, you could just make the end point about what part of Sonic Adventure would be improved with two extra buttons.
>>12647601>Sonic Adventure is the only Dreamcast gameYou need to play more games, anon
>>12647482
>>12647482>>12647538
>>12647601all action games benefit from more buttons.more buttons more moves
>>12647647the bottom buttons look very cumbersome to use
>>12647648Yeah, the white/black button placement on the S controller was AIDS
>>12647649>>12647648the black white buttons were on the Xbox s controller, and they great for extra functionality that you don't use use a whole lot
>>12647649>>12647657i only had the duke back then. i didn't remember the S being this cramped. what the hell
>>12647660They were above Y/B on the Duke and more natural to reach
>>12647667yeah i remember a friend having the S and me not liking it aside from the build quality. shit that was ~24 years ago
>>12647647Sonic Adventure doesn't even use all the buttons the Dreamcast controller already has.
>>12647368i like the newest xbox controllers cause they shape the shoulder buttons in a way where your pointer rests between them and you can easily press both with the same finger
yeah yeah I know ai slop but I can't draw photo realistically or 3d model so my llm-assisted picture generated from my description is the best you'll get. I think it looks pretty good. handles should be a little less fat but otherwise, pretty nice.
>>12647541Less buttons than a SNES controller, even.
>>12646657>ITT I save sega shitthread 9001^9001
>>12647682There's other games nigga.Action games need more buttons.Devil may cry? Ninja Gaiden? Kingdom Hearts? The 3D castlevanias? Bayonetta? Every Zelda game? All of those games could use 2 more buttons.Anything that involves way too much item switching in menus could use more buttons. Any game that has combo mechanics could use more buttons. Imagine if devil may cry had a light and heavy attack in addition to the rest.Berserk, Draconus, Dynamite Cop, Maken X, Rent A Hero, Shenmue 1&2, Soul Reaver, Spawn Demon's Hand, Slashout, Volgarr, Zombie Revenge, Alien Front, Bang! Gunship, Cyber Troopers Virtual On 2, Doom 1/2/64, Frame Gride, Gundam Side Story Ashes, Head Hunter, Maken X, Outrigger, Red Dog, Slave Zero.Any rhythm game. Is the buttons are there, the devs will design the game for it. They'll add new functionality for the buttons.
>>12647572Fighting games are for faggots
>>12649310Agreed, they seem right up your alley.
>>12647646can't someone decompile metroid and do this
>>12647646ok the ultimate controller, it would have electromagnetically actuated buttons, if samus ran out of missiles the button would just go flat until you picked up another missile OR changed weapons. Also as you charged your power beam, pressure would increase against your thumb until it reached maximum, then it would instantly decrease to normal pressure, signalling to your thumb it's time to let fire. There would be a scroll wheel next to the right bumper, it would scroll through Samus's inventory. You could then equip one of her inventory items to the four 'C' buttons like in Zelda.
>>12647806just map select to "analog stick down"
