Post what CRT you use for gaming. Include model no. if possible.

This is a Sharp 25R-S100.

i own one of those and the horizontal linearity is fucked with stretching on the left side. probably gonna get a shitton of badass m80s this 4th and send it to hell since it's unfit for use.

Did you know?

In the projector community people will occasionally use two or more projectors at the same time to increase the brightness of their image. Two 400 lumen projectors overlaid will create an 800 lumen result. However, it is difficult to align the two images. But not impossible.
Additionally, this has been done with CRT projectors a very small number of people.

THEORETICALLY, it could be done with a rear projection setup. As in a person could take two sets of rear projection CRT internals, for a total of six small CRTs in total (rear projection televisions use 3 separate RGB CRTs), and then they could mount them into a single cabinet. Converging the two images together should be easier for 240p resolution, as it has a lot of wiggle room with very large thick raster lines at that resolution (CRT projectors are harder to converge the higher resolution they get).

The result would be a very deep case (like 4') with a massively bright image compared to all the rear projection CRT set-ups anyone has seen. It would need significant cooling. But I'm confident that it could be pulled off and would make a direct view CRT monitor/televison of about 80" quite viable. For a price around maybe....$2000 for the whole project. It would be a a monster. A meme project.

Obsession with large tvs, or powerful cars, or anything that requires more is a sign of immaturity. At some point I grew up and realized that I don't need more. I am quite happy with a 15 inch CRT.

Lol, you're right. Most city refuge services refuse to pick these hulking relics up anymore, so you might have to take yours to the local dump. Lord knows the goodwill won't want it, due to the surplus they'll find themselves with.

I have a 21 inch CRT in reach right now. And there is a couple of 28 inch CRTs in the loft of the family house which I could acquire if I really wanted to. I just don't need them. My 15 inch CRT can fully resolve 240p, and looks excellent, why would I need more?

Got this 14'' Advent QA1435A for helping my Grandparents clean out their old house. Other than some minor geometry issues in the bottom-right corner, it's in good shape. My grandparents lost the remote, so I had to buy one for $20 to get into the service menu to fix the geometry. I wish it was bigger, but for a free* TV, I can't complain.

man, few months ago someone in the neighbirhood put out a 19" ish trinitron. I passed by it three days walking my dog. everytime I saw it I thought, "I should come back for that...nah, I'm not buying any consoles and I dont feel like opening up my mister to add analog ports"

but now I got a super station one coming soon and really wish I got that tv

Finally able to get rid of the over scan when using my crt as a second monitor. Had to go through some of my video card settings and tinker with hdmi scaling. Was about to give up and get a ps2.

What's up with the recent surge in crt shilling?
I remember when everyone moved on to the next generation of tech happily. Repairs didn't cost an arm and a leg, they weren't dangerous when broken, they could actually be moved reasonably around the house, they looked better, etc.
What did we all supposedly miss out on?
>>

I use CRT Royale on a 32" 4k monitor. I've tweaked the shader to have about 500 TVL distinguishable using test patterns.

My settings are

Diffusion 0
Halation 0
Mask Type 1 (slot mask)
Triad Size 5

When I want a composite video signal I append this shader to NTSC-Adaptive. My NTSC adaptive settings are different for each console, but reflect the performance of the RGB to NTSC Composite video encoder used in each console. If I am playing an NES game I would use GTU-Famicom and append CRT-Royale to it.

I own real CRTs but over time have found myself using the shader most often because the screen is larger and it's more convenient for me. Even with motion blur from sample-and-hold blur the reduction in perceived motion maintains at least 300 lines of resolution, so the image doesn't seem that blurry in action even though the monitor is only a 60hz unit in overdrive mode. It's a BenQ PD3200U.

>>12648748
Gaming on anything modern with analog inputs will feel like absolute shit due to scaling introduced input lag etc. For applications where responsiveness is important it will be cheaper and easier to get a crt than a retrotink setup or whatever and will arguably look better

The biggest chain in the UK used to write on the cover, manual and disc with a marker rather than use stickers. You still see defaced copies show up on Ebay all the time. I got pretty good at using an eraser to gently remove it, but it'd still sometimes leave noticeable damage.

please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it always felt to me like a computer monitor that we had much smaller pixels than the TV

One thing i really hated when I got my laptop, was seeing the aliasing in GTA San Andreas. My computer was top of the line in 2005 Dell Inspiron and quality of the game was kind of shittier than CRT at the internet cafe which had much shittier desktops with less ram and worse video cards.

With time I forgot this and just used heavy anti-aliasing which just makes whole picture annoyingly washed out, and only with higher resolution displays 1440p etc that effect is largely invisible.
