What retro games are good for someone with poor sight? Physical pinballs also welcome.

Tetris (various versions, especially NES, Game Boy, or arcade): Large, distinct falling blocks with bright colors. High contrast modes or monochrome (with filters) make it very playable. Audio cues for rotations/landings help. Many modern ports or emulated versions allow zooming/scaling.

Pac-Man / Ms. Pac-Man (arcade or NES): Relatively large character and maze elements with bold colors. The gameplay loop is simple and forgiving at slower speeds. Ghosts and dots provide clear visual/audio feedback. Portable or emulated versions with enlarged displays suit low vision well.

Breakout / Arkanoid-style games (arcade classics or clones): Paddle, ball, and bricks are big and straightforward. High contrast between elements; many versions have simple, colorful designs.

Galaga or Space Invaders (arcade/NES): Large, distinct enemy sprites that move predictably. Shooting mechanics rely more on timing and positioning than spotting tiny details. Bold pixel art stands out.
Kirby games (e.g., Kirby's Dream Land on Game Boy or SNES titles): Very large, colorful sprites, forgiving gameplay, and simple levels. Kirby's design is chunky and easy to track.

Super Mario Bros. (NES) or Donkey Kong: Platformers can work if you enlarge the display significantly. Mario's sprite is iconic and reasonably sized; focus on slower, more deliberate play. Later entries like Super Mario World (SNES) have bigger, more detailed sprites.

Puzzle games like Dr. Mario or Columns: Large, colorful falling pieces similar to Tetris. Match-3 or puzzle mechanics with clear visual groups.

Fighting games with big sprites (e.g., some Neo Geo titles like Metal Slug or early Street Fighter): Oversized characters and effects for easier tracking, though reaction time can be a factor—slower modes or practice help.

FPBP, but also any sort of turn-based game is likely to be good, though some of the old strategy games have a lot of small text.

Emulate handheld games on a big screen. Everything is bigger in handheld games up to at least the DS.

maybe some text based games with screen reader support?
I've been thinking about it a lot lately because my uncle lost his sight almost completely and it makes me sad to see him withdraw from the world
I think there's at least options for interactive fiction with screen reader support, but it doesn't go much beyond that, I'm afraid. I think some motivated developers could come up with interesting gameplay that worked well with the limitations of screen readers, like streamlined menus, tactile and auditory feedback for different options/moves
if any anons know any cool games with screen reader support I would love to hear about it

Pepe has been an unofficial mascot for 4chan since 2008. Plebbit didn't catch on until a few years later, maybe even as late as 2014.

Yeah I think WinFrotz has built in Microsoft Speech API support. So anything you can play in Frotz at least, all Infocom's games for example, have screen reader support.
