>looking into my options for Cthulhu retro games>see Jack Nicholson, among other thingsDid they just... trace the characters in this game from famous movies or something? I guess in the 90s they didn't even bother getting permission because back then nobody gave a fuck what they did anyway.
Yes, also with Vincent Price as the innkeeper doctor who is your friend.I'd send you to a youtube channel to watch a funny commentated playthrough of this game BUT when I namedrop them I'm hit with a 3-day ban on all boards for "off-topic posting" or "e-celeb worship" so sorry.
The Town with No Name did it too for some characters, although its mostly known as a meme game.
>>12650669They did the same shit with various NES game covers. >>12650679You type like a fag so you probably deserve the b&
>>12650669It was a very widespread practice, more innocent times.https://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tracing/tracing.htm
>>12650669Intrigue! did it too, but with actors from old classic black and white movies so it didn't feel quite as bad.
>>12650795>defending janniesyou type like a kike
>>12650669>>12650852>>12650865i love pirated celeb appearances! beats latter FMV games where real actors appeared in it and ask for royalties of all sales, making them almost impossible to port to modern systems and sell them legally again.
>>12650903>frank yaegerfrom badass native american to anime twink
>>12650903Came here to post Metal Gear 2
>>12650915You can blame MGS1 for that. The Cyborg Ninja was so iconic that they had to retcon Frank to look as weeby as possible.

>>12650920It's odd that the game pics look like they are clearly based off real people, but not always of the person they supposedly are. Like Yozef does look like an actor i recognize, but Bob Hoskins was not at all who I was thinking of. And Snake looks more like Sylvester Stallone.
"Controversy creates cash" and as weird as it sounds, I think some devs wanted their games to be caught doing this. Especially niche PC titles that would be happy with 50k sales. If the actor found out and wanted their image removed, the devs would issue a statement about how sorry they were and promise to recall and replace the image of the actor.
>>12650891On the flipside we did get>This is the impossible level, boys. Impossible doesn't mean very difficult. Very difficult is winning the Nobel Prize. Impossible is eating the sun.out of the latter.
>>12650669Well it's made by the french so...
>>12650891>where real actors appeared in it and ask for royalties of all sales, making them almost impossible to port to modern systems and sell them legally again. At least the original developers still get paid royalties for modern ports though, r-right?
>>12652119French always tend to make banger games. Or grames, as they're called in French. Hence the name Infogrames.
>>12652110bigshot actors should eat the sun, yes
>>12652285If you knew what I was quoting you'd know it wasn't even an actor and the game was never even officially released so the only way to play it is an emulator.Personally I'm not too worried about a game that can't be ported/sold as long as it's emulatable. Emulation has proven to be very hardy for game preservation. My concern is for the old PC games that barely function on modern computers, because the people trying to preserve them are basically GOG and that's it.
>>12650669First few Touhou games have characters and poses traced for various manga series.
>>12652340You mean the PC-98 ones? I always wondered why the art looked better than the Windows games.
>>12650679I get banned everytime I post hwnbaw in chakkan threads
>>12654270Good.
SUNA games are notorious for this shit.https://youtube.com/watch?v=o6kIJS4LslA
>>12652294>it wasn't even an actor and the game was never even officially released so the only way to play it is an emulator.sorry, i don't have enough underrated hidden gem indie points for this.
