What retard thought this was a good design for a video game controller?
>>
it's actually great. it would have been better with this design from the start though.
the numpad is quite useful

>this fucking uncomfy brick with a million buttons that never get used is actually great guys
>>
>>12651504
They probably just didn't want to pay the patent fees for non-retarded controller designs.
>>
>>12651513
Yeah, must be quite useful when you want to dial for a pizza while playing your video game.

Is there even ONE game that utilized any of those numpad buttons?
>>
Hating the Jaguar is a meme

>uncomfy
How? Because of the numpad in the center that's not touching your palms?
>million buttons that never get used
The numpad is literally perfect for weapon selection when playing something like Doom

It's incredibly useful in games actually. it's a bit like a dick, if you were born without one you wouldn't know about the experience

it's the basic "opinion" of those who learn about video games through AVGINA

AVGN told you it was bad so you believed him. People who have held one all agree it's quite ergonomic, though the Pro Controller >>12651513
is a straight upgrade with much better d-pad

It's fair to say the library was subpar. The hardware, even with its cut corners & bottlenecks, was still astonishing for 1993 especially at the $250 pricepoint. 16 million colors, functionally unlimited scaling & rotation, mode 7 but better, transparencies, particle effects, fast gourad shading. Shame Atari pushed texturemapped polygon games so hard. Jag really shined at 2D / superscaler. Atari often did have great hardware; 7800, ST, Falcon, all baller platforms. But pinched too many pennies on quality developers. I blame Jack Tramiel aka Jewish Wario

Business moguls with no understanding of a medium have no business trying to optimize it into a cash cow. They inevitably just profitmaxx until running it into the ground then eject with golden parachutes. Wade Rosen seems different, he understands & cares about gaming, makes me hopeful

The same retards that created this abomination in picrel for the 5200. The Jaguar controller isn't even that terrible in comparison.

Atari always sucked when it came to controller design. The 2600 joystick was okay, but the fact it only had a single button was very limiting but it didn't matter too much since the games were so simplistic anyway. Clearly their take away from the 2600 joystick was there wasn't enough buttons, so they overcompensated a bit with its successor.

The Rayman franchise started out on the Jag and looked amazing on it. Too bad for Atari it wasn't an exclusive, but it came out on it first. Really demonstrated all those colors and other capabilities.

Yeah its weird they ditched the numpad in the 7800 because they realized it was a stupid idea, but then forgot their lesson and brought it back with the Jag.

Also, weirdly it looks like from your picture they came up with the idea of an analog stick years before the N64. Too bad they didn't have that on the Jag controller where it would have really helped when pushing all that 3D stuff.

Its the right console for the joke. E.T. was never released on any other console (maybe for the best). Also, I'm not a zoomer.

Jag could actually display its full color palette onscreen at once, though memory constraints made that impractical for anything but still images. Thousands simultaneously, in most cases, beating even Neo Geo & matching Satun. If only 90s Atari had better developer relationships to get more beautiful 2D games like Rayman & Super Burnout. Atari Karts also looked great, but had some unfortunate design choices (no weapons, weird collision on landscape tiles)

Those thumbsticks are digital in fact. 5200 had a (terrible) analogue stick. Jaguar needed to not even attempt (texture mapped) 3D because it wasn't any good at that. The best running 3D games had only partial or no texturing

>What retard thought this was a good design for a video game controller?
No worse than the Sega Genesis default 3-button controller. My assumption is that's what inspired this design. Too bad whoever designed this wasn't inspired by the Super Nintendo controller as that is a better design to draw inspiration from on all levels.

The number pad is clearly Boomer thinking (or I suppose at this time it was Greatest Generation probably). Jack Tramiel who lead Atari probably never played a video game in his life. That's the sort of mentality behind the idea of slapping some number pad like you'd find on a phone onto a video game controller. The designer of this wasn't a gamer and didn't have gamers in mind.
>>
>>12651504
it would have been great for zelda. look at how many equipment buttons you have! You can put the dungeon key on #, the boomerang on 1, the lamp on 5, the fire, ice and light arrows on 7 8 9, the hookshot on *, the

The dpad on the original and pro controller are sub par. Otherwise, a super comfortable controller. Steam controller agrees.

>>12651719
Just say jews. Yes, the Jaguar was a jewish console, everything about it was designed to fuck over the consumer, the devs, and everyone single person who worked on it except for the kikes at the top, read clipped claws if you don't believe me

It's sad how fucking retarded American tech is. America had to cripple Japan with the 1986 US-Japan Semiconductor Agreement just to get back in the game. Weak cocksuckers had to cheat.
>>
>>12651691
I don't care what AVGN or whoever boogieman else you can think of says, it's an oversized piece of junk. The N64 controller is on the same level of unwieldiness with its retarded button it has at the back. Behold, the pinnacle of video game controller design.
>>
>>12652701
The n64 is more ergonomic, functional, and forward thinking than the conservative piece of plastic atari made.
