>ode, memory expansion and external save cart in one
>cheap
>open source & active main developer
>high compatibility
>can be used as action replay w/burned discs for 100% compatibility

why do saturn bros seethe when people talk about the saroo? any other community would happily accept a $40 everdrive or ode-replacement that doesn't even require a screwdriver, yet saturn bros insist you spend 2-10x as much for a conventional ode

>why do saturn bros seethe when people talk about the saroo?
Because it makes the Saturn less esoteric. For years it was "YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE SATURN THROUGH EMULATION!!!!" and /vr/ took it at face value that emulation can't do the Saturn justice. Now that people can actually play the Saturn's acclaimed eroge mahjongs on real hardware thanks to the Saroo, the mythology of the Saturn has further crumbled, causing untold psychological damage to Saturnfags who must reckon with the fact that "YOU DON'T NEED A 3D SONIC! YOU JUST NEED BETTER TASTE!" is a bad argument.
>>
>>12652042
interesting. i bought one for capcom fighters and vf, and was confused by the tomb raider/resident evil/sotn/doa cope when playstation versions are obviously better. i'm no gatekeeping fag, saroo makes sense but i wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something
>>
Sega bros don't hate it, autists do.
>I made a program specifically to generate as many errors as possible and I left it running for half a day, and I came back to THREE errors! Saroo is UNUSABLE!!
>>
Why do I have to push all in one cartridge in on one side and jiggle it to make it work?

All those games are better on PlayStation except for DoA. The PS1 version has the better lighting effects but the backgrounds are effectively empty there

This is exceedingly retarded. Modchips have existed for the Saturn longer than you have been alive, and as far as emulation goes, SSF is proficient enough for most use cases and you could run it on WinXP machines. As >>12652095 adequately put it, the Saroo is only hated by those of the byuu variety, namely trannies and autists.

The only thing esoteric about this discussion is the general stupidity of the community when it came to Saturn emulation and your personal willingness to keep console warring and strawmanning several decades after the fact. Pretty poor esoterica, no matter how you look at it.

These traits have always been hallmarks of the poorfag. I guess a second hand console and a dirt cheap Saroo is just above your pay grade.
>>
>>12652185
>Modchips have existed
And soldering one on is easier than inserting a Saroo into the cartridge slot how exactly?
>>
>>12652187
Read my post appropriately, numbnuts. I'm not arguing against the Saroo.
>>
>>12652190
Oh, I thought you were attempting to make an on-topic post about the accessibility of the Saturn (modchips are not accessible due to requiring soldering). I guess you were just trolling. Oh well.
>>
>>12652196
I'm saying there was never anything esoteric about the Saturn, it was accessible almost from the get go, whether you burned discs or emulated. The fact that I need to clarify this for you is nothing short of amazing. Can you even read?
>>
>>12652198
>there was never anything esoteric about the Saturn
Even though Saturn emulation sucked for the longest time (retards will deny this) and playing games without shelling out hundreds of dollars each required soldering? Especially on PAL consoles where you didn't have hardware 60Hz support out of the box.

What the fuck are you talking about? Saturn emulation was dogshit before the last 5 years when it finally got great with Mednafen/Beetle Saturn
>>
>>12652206
Hey now, Yabause could play visual novels with enormous graphical bugs in 2008. It was practically a perfect experience!
>>
>>12652203
>>12652206
Fucking retards. I had a modchipped Saturn back when the console was current. Not my fault you were too dumb/poor/unborn. Mednafen might be better these days but SSF was a perfectly fine emulator for most use cases and it ran on ancient computers. How many times do I have to repeat the same things until you get it?
>>
>>12652218
>my anecdote proves that modchips were available in every city at an affordable price and soldering them was easy/getting your console serviced was cheap
What is this fallacy called? Being a woman?
>SSF was a perfectly fine emulator
SSF was always ass and the retarded developer is too prideful to make it open source.
>>
>>12652218
>SSF
>perfectly fine
Yeah, most of the library having bugs is perfectly fine
Do you also think that MagicEngine is superior to modern PC Engine emulators?
>>
>>12652220
It's called "you were too dumb/poor/unborn."

>SSF was always ass
SSF required config per game in a lot of cases, but it was leagues ahead of the competition in that it was an emulator that actually worked.
>oh but it was closed source!
boo hoo, cry me a river. Were you gonna improve the emulator, when you couldn't even source a damn modchip or solder a few wires? All you do is complain. No shit you think SSF was always ass if changing a few settings is too much work for you, lmao
>>
>>12652224
Never said SSF was superior to Mednafen, you bag of bricks
>>
>>12652034
Nobody hates it except that one fan translator who keeps bitching about how this cart breaks games with race conditions or something.

He keeps posting here on /vr/ too, it's hilarious watching him get triggered.
>>
>>12652230
>SSF required config per game in a lot of cases,

It only required them cause some of the options made things very slow, so the compatibility options were, er, optional. That was back in like 2006 when the average high-end computer was barely dual core.
Today you can just run it permanently in max compatibility and you won't have much issues.
>>
>>12652251
Yes, thanks for the reply. I'm dismayed with the quality of most of the opinions shown in this thread thus far. Impressively ignorant.
>>

>defending proprietary emulators
SAAR
>Were you gonna improve the emulator
No, but other people made better Saturn emulators, and SSF is still closed source to this day despite being a piece of shit with zero use case. The reason? Prideful developer.
>>
>>12652261
I'm bored with you. Let's just say you won, okay buddy? Don't worry, I'll say you did it.

Who did it? You did. Good job.
>>
>>12652042
100% this. Saturn cultists don't like how any average Joe can see for himself that the hidden gems they've been dickriding like Burning Rangers are actually complete and utter shovelware garbage. it exposes the shit out the system.
>>
>>12652284
Thats every systems hidden gems. Alk the good games not locked behind language have been found

>hidden gem
>Burning Rangers
>Developed in house by SEGA the platform holder and self published in all regions
Under what criteria has something like Burning Rangers ever been a hidden gem? Lmao
A better example of a "hidden gem" is Terra Phantastica and that's more by the virtue of being Japan exclusive since it received the Best sellers label reprint, so obviously its not so "hidden".
>>
>>12652284
Saturn fans love that everyone is playing their games finally.
>>
>>12652261
>defending proprietary emulators
Kega Fusion is still the comfiest Genesis emulator and it's proprietary.
>>
I like it. I like anything that can serve the purpose of an ODE but also not physically alter the console.
>>
>>12652034
i've been thinking about getting one, are they all the same or are the recycled chip ones from aliexpress shit?

Yeah mate everybody in Australia had a Saturn, modchipped it and performed an irreversible 60Hz mod that prevented you from playing your PAL games, all so we could 1CC Radiant Silvergun. The Saturn was always accessible.
>>
>>12654112
Don't know anything about down under, but in the UK you had stores that added 50/60Hz switches to the Saturn. Sega Saturn Magazine even talked about them, pretty sure they even had ads running for such services. Don't remember if they talked about region mods or modchips though.
>>
>>12654112
wtf i love australia now
>>
i've had a saroo for years and never ran into any issues. I've beaten multiple games on saroo. people say there are compatibility issues but I guess I must play different games because everything I want to play works.
