Remember when Nintendo dropped the price of the Gamecube to $100?>George Harrison, senior vice president at Nintendo of America, said the company expects the price cut to boost GameCube's market share--currently at about 20 percent worldwide--several points. The cut is intended to appeal to mass-market consumers who don't have a game machine and to experienced gamers who are looking for a second console, he said.>"We think this represents an opportunity for us to sell a GameCube to someone who bought a (Sony PlayStation 2) three years ago and is looking for something new," he said. "We believe this is the best value in the history of video games."

>>12652554I don't actually remember this. I had a GC from 2001 and til the end of the generation. We just didn't play it much because PS2 and Xbox had way better games. We tried plenty of exclusives like PN03 and even titles that in some discourse was called best on gamecube like the first Burnout. It was a poor console with low quality games. The Nintendo games were really bad too, we already had a 64 so when we got shittier versions of the same games so the allure of later titles like prime 2 and twilight princess wasn't there. Nintendo desperately needed something new and that's what Revolution became. That's why GC didn't sell the same as NES, SNES, even N64, and why Xbox ate its lunch. It was a worse console. Do I Rainbow Six on gamecube? The game has 5 minute load times on GC (unironically) and no online. Or do I get the Xbox version and 2 free months of Xbox Live and one of the best games to play online at the time? It's a no-brainer. If you were stuck with a gamecube it's no mystery how maladjusted you are. Staying exclusive to that just fucked with your brain and damaged you as a person.
>>12652556Some smaller UK stores stopped selling GameCubes all together to have more space for the PS2, that's how bad things where.
>>12652565I remember the PsOne console and its games still competing with the Gamecube. It was marketed as a cheap kids consoles at the time. I tried telling people GC was cool but normies only cared about Xbox because you could hack it to run Linux which was consider serious and cool at the time.I actually main brought the GC for $50 because I knew it would increase in price just like with the N64.
>>12652565>UK>GameCubeSomebody post the picture
>>12652561>and that's what Revolution became. What the hell is "Revolution"?
>>12652923Nintendo Wii's codename. When they announced it that's the name they used
>>12652554I do, as it was when they got me to get one since they not only dropped it to $100USD, but also included the matching Gameboy Player. All the $5USD GBA games kept me satiated while I had quit video games. It was a good time when affordability was in mind, unlike today with ever-increasing prices of hardware associated with computing.
Here comes the Cube doo doo doo dooHere comes the Cube and I sayIt's all shit
>>12652618>run Linux which was consider serious and cool at the timeIt's serious and cool even now
>>12652556>$50 console, $50 FZero Gx, $20 memory cardAnd that’s all you need for unlimited gaming kinoNothing came close to this since
>>12652618I had a hacked Xbox and a GC when I was a kid. I associated piracy on the GC back then with the Phantasy Star Online loader which seemed pretty jank compared to the Xbox setup which was already a hassle to get going. I just got myself a trashed GC from Japan, horrible condition, and did a shell swap on it. It's an extremely hackable console these days. You have many options for booting into Swiss. I guess you can say that for every console of that generation. They keep coming up with new stuff for them too. What really sets the GC apart from the others is the digital AV port. It was useless for the majority of people who bought the GC 25 years ago. Now it means you can buy an adapter to convert it into HDMI with no analog stage. On the other consoles of that vintage you can't accomplish that without internal modifications. This console with it's nasty rusted insides actually has an interesting history. It was one of the last GCs made in Japan in 2002 before Nintendo outsourced production to China. I'm glad I can keep it functional.
>>12654928all of the good games became nintendo selects and started at $20 neweven mid-gen I remember picking up viewtiful joe and baldur's gate for $5 total used at EB Games
I just love that cube
