How do you decide on what to play?I've always been crippled by a need to only start games I intend to beat. I've been trying to break myself out of that mindset and just play random stuff until I get bored and naturally stumble on games worth beating, which is how I ended up putting a bunch of time into Ridge Racer R4, especially the Time Attack mode. It's very meditative, especially with the OST. What about you guys?
>>12653376If I'm completely honest with myself about it I have a very fembrained way of picking. I usually make a short list but then end up playing games that aren't even on it. It's like when a woman decides she's going to marry some guy but then having sex with him for the first time turns into some big thing in her head that it has to live up to, so instead she just fucks some random guy and his dog while planning to have that big moment at some later point.
>>12653376If I see something I want to play, I play it until I've had enough and then decide on something else.
>>12653376These days I rotate between three categories: arcade, general, and VN. This way I don't get burned out. I only play 1 game at a time. I play it until I get the 1cc or feel like I sufficiently mastered it. I don't have a backlog and I don't hoard roms. After I clear a game, I go on that japanese shmup site that has all of the STG games ranked by difficulty, or vsrecommended wiki, or vndb, and choose a game and then download it and play it next.
>>12653376if a game sounds interesting i'll look up a youtube playthrough, watch a minute or 2 and if i like what i see i'll play it. my bigger problem is finishing games. i have a bad habit of getting a good chunk of the way through games and then just...stop playing. right now i have a link to the past, super metroid, and secret of mana all 60-90% done and i haven't touched them in months (didn't have an snes growing up so i'm playing all the classics).
>>12653412>so instead she just fucks some random guy and his dogI don't know what porn you watch incel but you don't need to share it with the class
>>12653509> right now i have a link to the past, super metroid, and secret of mana all 60-90% done and i haven't touched them in months (didn't have an snes growing up so i'm playing all the classics).you're dropping them because those are walking sims for toddlers that take no skill
>>12653443How often do you actually finish games tho?
>>12653606Usually see it through to the credits, then consider it done.
>>12653376You've discovered overchoice.Delete everything except the games you truly like and the ones you really want to try out. If you're not having fun with them, stop wasting your time forcing yourself to play them and just fucking delete them. A slave hoards. A free man curates. Also, do play Ridge Racer Type 4. It's great.
>>12653376>picthe music started playing in my head by itself
>>12653662I last played it 20 years ago and same.
>>12653606Anon.. games dont matter.
>>12653770>Anon.. games dont matter.I've had stronger emotional experiences with video games than I've ever had with other human beings.
>>12653783that's very sad, anon
>>12653376>How do you decide on what to play?I have a list of 1000 games in chronological release order and the next game I play is the oldest one that when playing it will give me meaningful insight on the history of the genre. Its pretty simple.
>>12653376Honestly, I've been replaying the same pool of 20 or so games throughout the last 15 years; they are from different categories and platforms and they help me wind down after work, so I stick to that.Sometimes I pick a game up if it really looks interesting to me and I focus on it while having a "comfort" game to switch to if I get stuck, like Q3A. Years ago I played R4 just for the soundtrack and it was a nice experience, despite me not touching a racing game in a long time before that. Also I recently played Metal Max Returns because I like futuristic, post-apoc settings and I've been eyeing The Hybrid Front for the same reason, but I'll probably replay a platformer for some time. I would recommend you to tike some time off videogames. Try other stuff like a TV show or movies and pick something to play when you are committed to enjoy it after not touching a controller for some time.
>>12653896Without video games I'd have 0 emotional experiences, so I'm grateful to video games for allowing me to feel.
>>12653896If you can't abstract, it's your situation that's sad.What else? Music can't have meaning?
>How do you decide on what to play?My favorite thing to do is to pick a video game magazine from a certain era and find something that looks cool as I'm perusing the magazine.
>>12654205i did that before but all i got was slop

>>12654236Is it really that shocking on a website like this?
I have the same problem now.I missed out partially or completely on 4 major franchises and want to play several games from them, but I can't decide what to start with, and also worried about dropping them halfway there.- Metroid: never played any of them- Castlevania: same- Mega Man: only played 6 and X- Zelda: only played OoT, TWW, TP and SS. And only actually finished OoT and TWW.I also never played a Kirby game until now. I just played Triple Deluxe on 3DS and was surprised how fun it is. Thought it was just a babby's first kiddie platformer, but the combat mechanics can be surprisingly complex.
