>Source code for multiple versions of the game was published on 4chan, made available through two file-sharing websites.
>Konami said in the lawsuit that the files included source code for Metal Gear Solid 2 and its "non-public assets."
>The company sent cease-and-desists to 4chan and the file-sharing sites to get the source code taken down. They've been removed from the original file-sharing websites, Konami said, but the damage has already been done.
>"An urgent need remains to uncover the source of the leak and to ensure that similar or further public disclosures do not occur," lawyers wrote in the complaint, obtained by Aftermath. Konami did an internal investigation, but was not able to identify the leaker, according to court documents.

I don't remember this but it was a cool engine. Would make for a better game, like a FPS. The extra performance could be used with hardware now for a lot of mechanics and action.

>multiple versions
I wish, sadly it was just the Vita version that already stripped out tons of stuff

Vita version performed like ASS, despite being 10x more powerful than a PS2. I blame resolution.

Retarded faggot.

>"the damage has already been done"
It's source code for a 25 year old video game. They act like it's the nuclear launch codes or something.

I for one hope someday we'll see a MGS2: de-9/11'd Edition put out.

Not Nintendo so I'm not getting angry about it

>Konami, a big, Japanese (very important here) corporation with a long history
>with an army of lawyers
>unable to determine the original leaker, who needed to be in a position higher than a typical cubicle worker, with everyone being monitored on cameras all day long and what they do on the company computers is visible to the main IT guy, so that if everyone gets caught doing something "out of RINE", they get reprimanded or fired (but they rarely fire people over just browsing Internet, you've got to be doing something illegal, as in according to Japanese law)
>in addition, these assets likely required some sort of clearance, plus they appear to have copied it INSIDE the company building
>Now, the Japanese part comes important - they're notoriously ANAL about their IPs and basically in a constant lawfare over the slightest, perceived COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, as part of the typical corporate tactic of weakening your opponent through sound/unsound lawsuits that last YEARS and usually get settled beforehand (for an undisclosed sum, if even that), in order to save insane expenses on both sides
>also, in Japan piracy/leaking stuff, ESPECIALLY like that, is seen as extremely dishonorable. If caught, you'd be sentenced to Seppuku during Shogun rule

In short, the leaker NEEDS to be someone of a higher rank in the corporation, who is capable to influence "Internal Investigation" results. Also someone with an unrestricted access to such material, someone you can't accuse without getting fired with a wolf ticket in hand (even with evidence).
Someone, who probably cares about those games rotting away in their guarded warehouses and wants them to survive (and breathe new life into) by releasing them to the Internet.

By all means, we're likely dealing with a Great Man, even if he's a corporate devil.
