So I just cracked reality with something very simple.
Want to experience the old world at least a little? It's not as hard as it seems, or at least to have a little glimpse of it.
If you can get real hardware and a CRT, the better, but here comes the interesting part: turn off your phone and don't use the internet at all for a while.
I did the experiment of not using any modern technology made after 1999 for a day, and while at first I was a bit anxious, after a while my brain accustomed to it, and life started feeling again a bit like how it was back then.
It made me enjoy my video games a lot more.

>turn off your phone and don't use the internet at all for a while.
Why do zoomers act like things people have been doing since forever are mindblowing and absurd revelations? OH NO! NOT USING MY PHONE FOR A DAY! THE HORROR!
>>
fuck off with your generation war faggotry
>>
>>12654702
Here's the fucking revelation that absolutely proves that all this Gen Z love for old ways is purely performative and fake - there's so much of you fuckers still online claiming how you're doing all the retro minimalism here, on Reddit, on Tik Tok, On Xitter and other places for Gen Z faggots addicted to online attention.
You do it only for other brain-deficient kids to clap and call you cool. If your will do reduce your toxic relationship with modern tech was true this thread and r/minimalism and dozens of companies selling you more shit with "minimalist" label would not exist.
You're still a retarded sheepling but following different labels and slogans.

The funniest thing is that GenZ aren't genuinely interested in playing old videogames, all they care about is online validation, desire to "fit in", appear cool, similar to e-whores pretending to love retro gamers and preying on lonely nerds or early youtube users who posted stuff like"Justin Beaver and Lady Gaga sucks, I'm 18 and I listen to real music like Beatles and Pink Floyd!". For them it's nothing more than a fad, a "phase", trendchasing

The best they can come up with is uploading some short video where they play some ps1 game on crt, show how they "immerse" themselves (which is impossible if you're doing this for someone's attention on the internet) and never touching it again, letting it all collect dust. Even when they're saying that they're planning to play old games and go offline they still can't help broadcasting themselves worldwide. They don't understand that playing games back then an individual experience with no distractions such as the internet, social media, smartphones etc, nothing stood between a kid and the game he was playing (apart from strict parents or a friend who wanted to join and play together).

Source: your asshole. My zoomer buddies and I like to play old games and discuss them after we all beat it, kinda like a book club for retro vidya. We just recently finished a Link To The Past. It became mine and one of my friend's favorite Zelda game.

The people who are dealing with retro gaming wouldn't be saying "Justin Beaver and Lady Gaga sucks, I'm 18 and I listen to real music like Beatles and Pink Floyd!" but rather "Justin Beaver and Lady Gaga sucks, I'm 18 and I listen to real music like Koji Kondo and Yuzo Koshiro!".

They will use MiSTer as real hardware and carts are far too expensive for the zoomers.

Some models have disc drive issues that can only be solved by tilting the system, it was so common that Sony made it a actual feature with the PS2.

1. this bs zoomer news
2. corpos are just too lazy to innovate, and their new consoles will never outsell SNES. this is just a cashgrab, like with the "mini" consoles .

this is true. if /vr/ was kicking off so well, GOG would outsell steamwankery by now. nevermind the console-only crowd.

Not true at all and this is classic observation bias. That's all that you see because you're permanently online too and that's your only sample.
Think back to when you were a kid. You probably played your parents old records and toys and it was fun because it was different. Same thing.
>>
My normie zoomer cousin who is now a giga chad who works as a car mechanic knew some retro stuff back when he was 10, he knew what a Famicom was and how it was the japanese name of the NES, and he wasn't even alive when 6th gen released, how did he knew that at 10? Thanks to streamers. Since a lot of the content zoomers consume is streams and video games basically birthed from video games, you have cases like that where retro games will find zoomers that way

It is absolutely performative, its like cochella. People who go to coachella are not there for the music anymore, its so they can be seen at coachella on instagram. Its a credibility boost. They go so far as to photoshop themselves at the venue to fake it.

This is what gen Z is doing with retro gaming. They need video games as props to stage behind them as they stream. They build fake 90s game rooms and stage photos like pic related, and I guarantee this girl never played a single one of these games for more than 3 minutes, if ever.
>>
>>12655538
I don't get why it's like this
I have a few zoomie friends that loves retro stuff and I highly welcome them into it, maybe all the years of (you) baiting shitposters probably left those oldfags all jaded probably lol

Most people aren't streamers, anon. I know you're hooked straight up to them but they're not nearly as popular as you think.

Zoomers and alphas are sick of shitty remakes, shitty monetized games, and shitty globohomo writing. GTA6 flopping will be the death knell of big AAA garbage, except sports games maybe.

Believe it or not there's people in the world who own smartphones and aren't pea-brained cattle who are glued to their screens 24/7. You know when I look at my phone? When I take a shit. Nintendo's mini consoles were made to fix the emulation problems the Wii U had as the Wii U was just that bad.

They were not cash grabs.

>Nintendo's mini consoles were made to fix the emulation problems the Wii U had as the Wii U was just that bad.
I doubt that was the primary consideration. The WiiU had emulators, they largely sucked because some weirdo decided everyone would die of epileptic fits if they didn't nerf the contrast and blur it. But nobody was going to buy a WiiU to play 80s and 90s games, at best they could make a few extra bucks on people who already owned one, which there weren't many, that being the whole problem.
Nintendo didn't have any new products on the horizon, they needed money, and here was a potential way to keep the brand alive in the minds of old nostalgia freaks. That someone put effort in and stopped listening to the fucked up idiot who broke the WiiU emulators is just gravy.

29-year old elder zoomer here, I'm not sure why you fags think my generation is somehow incapable of enjoying old vidya in earnest. My first game system was a hand-me-down SNES that my brother didn't use anymore and a GBC. I got a PS1 when I was a bit older and then a PS2 and Gamecube. And I hardly think I'm unique; I'm sure a lot of people around my age had similar childhoods. Zoomers want to go back to those old games because its before the gaming industry completely shit the bed.

wait wait. the youngest age GenZ is probably reasonably considered is 16, right?

They were kids just as the PS2 was exiting the market and all consoles were online game services began, and online PC gaming was really in its stride.

They are almost all entering adulthood, or at least job age with disposable income.

Are you anons with gripes suggesting that its completely beyond believable that zoomers would be old enough to have some memory of the last gasp of game before modern gaming to have frustrations and nostalgia for when things werent so?

lets give the devil its due anon. Zoomers are the first generation born completely online. The criticism of the performative thing is not imaginary or unfounded...
>>
37 millennial here. I am not sure how to feel about Gen Z getting into retro gaming like this. On one hand I think its great they want to play better games but on the other I think its also a sad state of affairs that the modern gaming industry has become so bad that they feel the need to do this.

For myself I've been almost entirely interested in just old games myself these days. I play on modern systems but much of what I play has been old games from many years ago. Whether its ports or remasters. The newest game I have played that I can think about atm is Armored Core 6 which is a 2023 game I think. I cannot justify paying full price constantly for all these new games. I also feel I am too old to get as hyped as I once did for new games. It helps a lot though that most of them such so bad that there is no reason to get hyped.

I've been playing classic Doom games. Its just too hard to beat these classic old retro games I swear.

>29-year old elder zoomer here, I'm not sure why you fags think my generation is somehow incapable of enjoying old vidya in earnest.
Millennials hate zoomers because they're jealous that zoomers are still young and they are getting older, there's no wonder Gen X and boomers complain when zoomers enjoy the things they grew up with instead of mindlessly consuming modern AAA slop like most millennial gamers tend to do.
>>
>>12656805

>Being alone with your thoughts is literally like being catapulted into the Backrooms for a zoomer. It’s worse than death.
This isn't even a generational phenomenon, this is a universal thing. Being alone with your own thoughts is torture, especially as a man.
>>
>>12656904
Or we're just tired of the constant complaining older games do things they don't like. Millennials had the same mindset about pre-NES games as well, but they never had this kind of renaissance where previous generations would have to listen to millennials constantly bitch about how centipede moves too fast or how frustrating it was to get cornered by ghosts in pac man. If you belong on this board, you should be able to play older games without focusing on personal critique so hard you miss the point of playing the games in the first place.
>>
>>12656904
>zoomers are still young
Not anymore lmao.
>>
>>12654702
You have to be at least 40 for me to even begin to entertain your weighing in on retro games seriously. If anyone who happens to be in their 30s in current year has any memory of the games discussed in this board at all it’s unlikely to be of anything pertinent or meaningful. Their contributions on the subject are unironically as specious as those of zoomers and gen a, with the possible exception of those with older siblings or otherwise relatives. Being an “oldfag” is the biggest larp at this point, it’s so pathetic. Also the othering of zoomers or whoever is so tone deaf when we all know what these people were like in the 00s.

As a millennial I can explain to you exactly why this is. Instead of the future we were promised we got this. A steaming pile of shit. When someone younger says wow, all of this seems like a steaming pile of shit. I'm going to look backwards to simpler times. Our response is FUCK YOU HOW DARE YOU STOLEN VALOR STOLEN VALOR NAME 3 NIRVANA SONGS! As if we are anything but manchildren who formed our identities around mass produced consumer electronics. Now we're acting like it was high art you can't understand unless you were there. YOU'RE JUST DOING IT AS A FASHION STATEMENT! Bro if some zoomers decide getting a LAN party going or some shit is a fashion statement I'm all for it. It's better than having a cry about how bad life is on 4chan like I'm liable to do.

>>
I'm 46 and I've never identified with any generational label. That's just normalfag shit to begin with.
>>
>>12656936
It's not the generational label that's the issue as much as it is starting to act like a crotchety old person. Bitching and pissing and whining and moaning about everything. Like I used to do all day long before I realized it wasn't changing anything. Sitting around all day playing Soulcalibur 2 doesn't change anything either but at least I'm having fun doing it instead of feeling bad. If young people are going to engage with the past on their own terms it can't take that away from me.
