Does table tennis count?

Super Family Tennis was officially released in PAL territories as Smash Tennis, but its a heavily cut down version of the game. I speculate that whatever team was in charge of bringing it over did not have anyone who could speak Japanese. Anything text heavy, such as the "Namcot Theater" story mode (arguably the main selling point of the game) and tournament mode intermission cutscenes were removed entirely. The character and court names are all completely different. The only pieces of text in the game that seem like they may have been properly translated are menus that could easily be guessed from context (things like "select player counter"). Not to mention its a PAL release, so its stuck at 50Hz.

A few years ago, I started work on doing the hacking for a proper translation, but I dropped it after losing contact with my translator. I got as far as completely reverse engineering the cutscene engine, extracting every piece of text in the game, and reimplementing the graphics compression algorithm so I could edit and reinsert graphics. I stared writing a text reinserting program and variable width font patch, but I never finished those. I also discovered a fairly elaborate undocumented debug menu, which is neat I suppose.

I've been thinking about going back and finishing it, but being as it's a sports game and text is completely non-essential to playing the game, I don't know if there's enough interest for it to be worth my time. The game's script is only 5,800 characters long, so the translation front wouldn't be too strenuous, provided I could find someone willing to do it.

It's not really a cheat code considering the game gives you the code after you beat tournament mode. It's the developers way of making it an unlockable in a game that can't save. They probably wanted you to play tournament mode first since Namcot Theater gets ridiculously difficult.
