There is not a single /vr/ take more autistic than preferring Lost Levels over Mario 2 USA because it's a "real" Mario game. Mario 2 USA is a great game, it's a true classic, no discussion.

mario madness
>>
The actual autistic thing is seething about people preferring things.
2/USA and 2/JP are both great, USA as an original new take on Mario, made by the Mario team, and which started originally also as a Mario game, before it got worked as a Yume Kojo tie-in.
2/JP is a great sequel to the original, with new physics, Luigi as a playable character with his own physics too, and crazy level design specifically designed to subvert expectations of even the most hardcore SMB1 player

This is my favorite Mario game.
>>
It’s as much a real Mario game as the rest, it was made by the same devs, after all.

I got's to say the nay-no, mah brotha. Lost Levels is a miserable experience, if you ask me, and it basically being a shitty romhack before shitty romhacks were a thing is the main reason they even felt the need to reskin and polish a different game. Sure, Mario 2 is technically a reskin, but unlike Lost Levels, it's actually fun and interesting.

The reason I say it's autistic to prefer Lost Levels for being the "true" sequel is not just because of mere disagreement, it's because people who say this often believe technicalities are more important than fun. Like you value the integrity of Mario as a franchise more than playing an actually good sidescroller.

yes its a much better game and a much grander adventure. smb1 deserves a lot of credit (just look at how poorly most 8bit platformers control compared to it) but the neverending jerking off of the game is a bit much.

Mario 2 really does feel like an adventure, especially on the SNES. Such a forward-thinking and evocative game.

If stomping enemies doesn't kills them its not a Mario game
>>
It's my all time favorite Mario game (SMB3 and SMW are very close though, each satisfies different interests). One of my favorite things about it is the lack of a timer, makes it feel more inviting to exploration. Always found it weird that no other retro game ever felt like it, with maybe MC Kids being the closest but still pretty far off the mark.

Reminder that they took what was a FDS game that was being sold at half the price of cartridge game, plastered Mario all over it, and sold it back in cartridge form at twice the price.

Really makes you think.

Cartridges are more expensive and don't have loading times...

you need to spend more time here if you actually believe this. There are some very sick posters here.

same. I really think they'd benefit by revisiting some of these themes in a modern game. The Mario concept needs a shakeup again.
>>
>>12655615
I just had fun with both games

Fair enough, but Lost Levels is just too much of a troll game for me. I love a good challenge, but LL's idea of challenge is just cheap and annoying. You must simply be a more patient person than me to find enjoyment in the game.

>You must simply be a more patient person than me to find enjoyment in the game.
>Its the game's fault not mine.
>>

The game trolls you a lot, but it has plenty of genuinely difficult platforming as well. You can go into it knowing about every trap and still struggle with the precision required.
>>

Look, I have beaten Lost Levels, both when I was a kid and again as an adult, as well as all the bonus levels. It was the All Stars version, but still, I have seen all that there is on offer in this game, and I don't care much for it, and I know I'm not the first person to give you this perspective. There's a reason even Miyamoto himself considers Mario 2 USA the true sequel to Mario 1.
>>
>>12655584
I didn't like SMB2USA as a kid because you couldn't get a fire flower.
>>
>>12655712
It's just a harder continuation of SMB1.
As the other anon said, the game still offers challenge even when you already know the game's trolley parts, because it still requires great precision with the platforming.
It definitely is a game that takes patience, but it's very fun.
Still the only Mario game I can't 1cc
>>
>>12655584
I prefer Japan 2 because I prefer the game play in SMB1 much more than USA 2. 2 USA is still good and I played it a bunch.
>>
>>12656257
> I have beaten Lost Levels
Who fucking cares?
> I know I'm not the first person to give you this perspective
You don't even know my perspective. I'm just calling you a cunt for blaming the game while admitting is a self inflicted issue. I wish more games had the balls to actually trick players more often.
