There's a confusing microgenre of atrociously bad games that people pretend to want sequels to. Shenmue is the obvious example where an extremely vocal contingent spent most of their adult lives demanding a sequel only for the 3rd entry to sell less than a thousand copies. Beyond Good and Evil is another example. Where it deservedly flopped upon release for being shit in literally every aspect and were they to make a sequel it would also flop despite imaginary demand. Any other examples you can think of?

beyond good and evil 2 had two different concept trailers that were heavily promoted at e3, one seventh gen and one eighth gen. it's more so infamous vaporware than just fans begging for a revival.
