The PS3 store is shutting down for real this time. What PS1 Classics do I need to buy before I lose my chance to play them forever?

Isn't the PS3 backwards compatible? Just buy the PS1/PS2 discs and slap it into that bitch

Only the launch model is compatible with PS2 games and the emulation is rather poor.

Whenever people justify piracy by saying a game is out of print, I like to be a smart ass and say you can buy it on the PS3 store. I guess I won't be able to do that any more.

If you have a Japanese PS3, you should pick up Policenauts since that game is almost certainly never going to get another official release.

If it has the guts of a PS2 inside it, then it's not emulation, ya dingus.
>>
>>12670169
The only game you should get it Vib Ribbon, if you're playing on an emulator you have to rip the music cd as a file and mount it which is kinda a pain in the ass if you just wanna quickly grab one of your albums and try it out. On the ps3 you just insert the music cd disc and it works like it should.
>>
>>12671983
Are you saying you can use any music disc if you swap while the game is running or am I hallucinating like a retarded ai?
>>
>>12672024
guessing you've never heard of vib ribbon? It's a rhythm game where the whole gimmick is that it will create stages based on any music cd you put in. It works somewhat decently, doesn't feel like the timing is that close to the actual song but it's a cool gimmick I suppose and maybe it depends on the song itself. and yes on the original ps1 version you would take out the game disc and insert your music cds for it to generate a song. The game's total memory is so small because the graphics are so simple that it can fit on the ps1's console ram without needing the game disc.
>>
>>12670173
This. Imagine giving money to the company that just deleted a bunch of digital purchases. If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.

>What PS1 Classics do I need to buy before I lose my chance to play them forever?
You shouldn't buy anything on a storefront which is about to be shut down. No matter what you do your PS3's HDD will eventually fail and when the storefront is gone there will be no way to recover what you bought from them. Aside from that, PS1 games are easily available on other platforms and by other methods, so why would you insist on buying them this way? Don't listen to that youtuber.

Still shouldn't waste his money but if you have you account login you can just buy another ps3 and redownload all your stuff it it breaks. So far we haven't seen any company shut down the ability to redownload games you bought.

PSX Classics are 27+ years old. No one that worked on those games is receiving any sort of recompense.
>>
>>12670173
Aren't those purchases tied to your account so you can download them on any playstation console afterwards. Worth the money.
>>
>>12673337
If the PS3 store is shutting down, how are you gonna download what you bought? The download history is inside the store.
>>
>>12673350
The store shutting down doesn't mean downloads are shutting down. You can still download all your old Wii games even though the Wii shop shut down 7 years ago.
>>
>>12673350
on the xmb you go to account managment and there's a menu that will take you to your downloads without having to go on the store.
>>
>>12673352
We'll see how it goes. The PSN store is the first step, the online services will follow, like they already tried to do in the past. Enough time has pass, it's inevitable that the PS3 will become an offline console only.

This, it's a money laundering operation for DEI investors at this point. How many multi-year developed, 100+ million $, full woke cast loot'em shoot'em games turned into complete flops at this point? Sony alone made several.

There's no way the industry is profitable at this point, it has to be some kind of tax dodging or money laundering operation now.
>>
>>12672841
If that were to happen, he could just get a new hard drive, log back in, go to account information, transaction history and download list and redownload the game again.
>>
>>12675578

Will that still be accessible if that transaction history is hosted on the store (which will no longer exist)?

>>12671902
Probably his target group are braindead zoomers and even younger retards, he doesn't want to overwhelm them with complicated haxxor stuff like "move iso file into that folder".
>>
Controversial opinion inbound: buying games physically is just as irrational as buying them digitally when piracy is an option.
>>
>>12675741
No it's not. You buy a physical item with resale value, as opposed to just buying a download which can be gotten for free also as a download. Unless you are going out and stealing physical games, it's really not comparable at all.
>>
>>12675743
People who speculate on popular culture are retarded.

Yes but it's cheaper and better to buy a much cheaper and more durable later model PS3 and a PS2 with the money you'd have spent on a backwards compatible model

Why are you loading up on system where everything can be emulated as easily as NES roms?
Why not get some PS3 games for your PS3, since a quarter of them are unplayable on the current best emulator.

99% of these companies no longer exist and those that do have less than 3% of the employees from that time. Only Sony makes money from these purchases and fuck em.

So that makes it ok to break the law? The guy who invented coca cola is dead, he doesn't get any money from it anymore. Does that mean it's acceptable to walk into a store, grab a coke off the shelf and walk out without paying?

>pirate a video game
Some game maker loses an imaginary "potential sale" and they're very sad because they're entitled to become billionaires by playing around and having fun all day.
>>
>>12680865
That's not comparable at all, if I go to the official coke website and download one of the images off it is that considered wrong? If I have have something and make a perfect copy of it is there anything wrong with that?

Honestly the only real way I can think of a real world equivalent is like this, say I have a key to a building, I make a billion copies of that key and give it to everyone for free. It's not theft, it's access.

so how many games can a game publisher be ethically allowed to sell before its ok to steal from them? If everyone steals the game then they make no money and have to file for bankruptcy because the development costs need to be recouped after publishing for the business model to work.

Do you you consider downloading an image to be the same as enjoying an ice cold coca cola because they're not the same thing. You don't get the experience of drinking a coke by downloading a picture, you get to experience a game by downloading the game. Your comparison would be more apt if you downloaded the games cover art but you're a mong so that idea is beyond your grasp.

That's not bad. Especially in comparison to what the original disc is going for these days. Is the game actually any good though or do people only pretend to care about it because its rare?

that's a little odd to single out when you can easily put a newly made hard drive in it and the other components will fail much sooner. particularly the RSX if you have a fatty.
>>
>>12675497
a lot is already lost because it got delisted over a decade ago during the console's lifetime. sucks.
>>
>>12673337

Wrong. You can't download them on PS4 or PS5, and most PS1 games on PS3 aren't available on PSP or PS Vita. It's not worth it, believe me.
>>
>>12673352
>You can still download all your old Wii games even though the Wii shop shut down 7 years ago.
That’s not true anymore; you can’t do it now. Nintendo revoked the right to redownload in 2023.
>>
>>12682491
>That’s not true anymore; you can’t do it now. Nintendo revoked the right to redownload in 2023.
Can you link to some article or announcement that confirms this?
>>
>>12681045
The developer can sell as many copies as they please, the issue here is simple supply and demand, the issue here being a functionally infinite supply so demand is almost meaningless. The laws are in such a way now to artificially limit the supply.
The issue of digital copyright infringement only exists because people are upset they can't make more money. You can look up whatever you want but the "issue" never was a problem, it's not as if you can't go download almost any game ever made right now for free, you can do that right this second. Yet people are still paying money for these things, because as hard as it is to believe people are willing to spend money on something they like. I personally have bought hundreds of games that I pirated.
>>12681062
Nah you make a good point, but it still never addresses the original one that digital copyright infringement is fundenmentally different from theft and conflating them together is simply lobbyist rhetoric.
