>>12670606I'm having fun.
>>12670606fun is just a buzzword tho
>>12670607Im almost inclined to agree with you actually. It was primarily a multiplayer and splitscreen powerhouse with weak solo play and is generally just an unsatisfying game that was only enjoyable with a shit ton of soda, doritos, and sleep deprivation on summer break. It really was the original friendslop huh
>>12670626startropics is amazing
>>12671054There are so many better multiplayer FPS, I never understood the appeal of this game. It was always boring, slow, floatslop that felt like you were fighting underwater.

>>12672542the reason halo was such a hit was because consolefags had no real shooters. at all. halo was the first honest attempt at making a 3D shooter for consoles that wasnt gimped console/controller-limited bullshit. prior to halo, they had goldeneye, and that was it. but goldeneye was pretty limited compared to even the older PC shooters at that time. so once halo hit, and you had an actual functioning online multiplayer that you had to pay for like a total cuck lol, that was the end of it. no one played goldeneye ever again. because you could just splitscreen on halo instead, or go on live
>>12672558Counter Strike, for one. What about the Battlefield games? The classic Battlefields were around then. I can understand this game being quite good for the time but the playstyle is just bad IMO and wears out it's welcome. By the time the third came out it was beyond stale and there was no reason to play it.
>>12670607>friendslop You can't just throw slop at the end of a word and think that somehow makes it a valid criticism. Not only that are you really shitting on a video game if it has extremely good co-op and multiplayer?
>>12672682>Be the best console shooter.>Completely change the formula so that FPS play well on console>Still manage to be fun on PC>Limiting the gun holstering to two weapons provides challenges in ammo management and maintaining a proper loadout >These limitations incentivize weapon experimentation>Each weapon has a unique niche and all play differently>Grenades and melee are mapped to seperate buttons and make those mechanics intergrate flawlessly to the gameplay without ruining the flow of combat.>seamless vehicle to ground transitions make vehicular combat and traversal fun while not taking away from the ground combat.>Enemy forces are unique and provide different challenges to deal with each>Awesome Score>Cool Art direction >Amazing presentation and Voice work>Comfy co-op>A addictively fun multiplayer modeI don't understand people that shit on Halo, it's a good game same with its immediate sequels. I say this having played contemporary games like Half-Life, Counter Strike, Battlefield, and Quake 2. Halo is its own thing and excels extremely well at its gameplay goals.

damn, i havent lurk this board in a few months and out of nowhere the first thread i see is this, i just got my first ever Xbox console a few months ago and ive been going through all the exclusives ive been wanting to play.Got an Xbox One and i just started Halo Aniversary Edition a few days ago, and im also not having fun, the level design feels so dated to me, i know this is a 2000s game from the ps2 era but still... the level design is pretty uninspired, the enemies are dumb as inbred muslims, the music isnt partcularly helping either with that constant African chanting track playing on every mission...I just liberated Cortana and im about to reach the Halo control room, but im not having fun, some deatsh are absolutely frustrating, guns are not fun to use except for the needler, vehicles are a chore to drive, and gameplay, run and gun battles feel so slow i feel im playing on slow motion...Am i near the end of the game? NO SPOILERS, im planing to beat the game but not sure if i should play Halo 2 immediatly afterwrds, previously to Halo i played both Ori games, and Gears of War 1 2 3 and 4.
>>12673085>>12670612
>>12672749Exactly this. A lot of people either weren't around back then or simply don't know what they're talking about.Besides being the first console FPS to basically standardize the control scheme. Or at least the first widely accepted / played one. The gun limitation, melee / grenades being mapped to separate buttons and the vehicles were revolutionary not just for console FPS, but for ALL FPS.What fun, easy controllable vehicles were there in any FPS before Halo? Unreal? Those vehicles sucked and were janky and everyone knows it.Everyone seems to forget that there were many things that Halo had that NO FPS had at the time, whether it was on console or PC.

>>12674510Halo is an arena shooter
>>12674521Shit, now I understand it. It all makes sense. Halo really is just a slowed down arena shooter with some vehicles. That's actually what it is, distilled into it's purest essence. The formula to create Halo.
Loved it as a kid. Replayed it last year and I found it very slow. Couldn't enjoy it anymore.
>>12673735Any of the recent Doom games
>>12674510That division was always really stupid to me.
>>12674806ofc it is. but this site's average user is still mentally in high school and one of their only hobbies is needing to autistically atomize every topic so they can have false dichotomies to cry and screech over. you can't like sega and nintendo, you need to be a segafag OR a tendie. you can't like quake 3 and halo, you need to pick le based arena shooters or baby's first fps. please please please masturbate my headcanon that we are all in specific warring factions and always fighting!

>>12674779>recent Doom gamesThose came out 15 to 25 years after Halo. You got any retro examples?
>>12674849It's beyond tiresome. Look at this absolutely extravagant oyster of diehard classic games, there's all the flavors you could ever want, there's more genuinely good games from these eras than you'd reasonably have time to play in a lifetime by this point, and they are almost all so easily accessed and enjoyed.NOBODY here is an actual 9 year old who's parents are only prepared to spend a certain allotted sum of money, so they can only play a certain limited selection. But some people are still emotionally 9 years old about this shit, they got clocked by marketing and branding 30+ years ago, they got scarred by retarded and unimportant recess banter and squabbles, and they cannot fucking move on.It's not even about "I'm a serious and mature adult man, who's very adult and it's important that you see me as not childish," or the "le videogames have finally grown up!" meme, which are completely different kinds of cancer, but I'm fucking 34 years old, I don't have that patience or energy for the most useless and insufferable type of tribalism imaginable. You can just fucking tell me "I didn't like it." or "It wasn't for me." Fuck, you can even really hate on the game, but I just want you to not be an insufferable faggot about it.I'm not here to relive and reenact my childhood, or to reenact someone else's childhood, I'm here to play the fucking games and talk about them.
>>12672672>before the most popular shooter of all time at the time, consoles had no real shooters>oh except for the most popular shooter of all time that came before that
>>12672749Let me shit on halo for a second while also praising its motivesPeople think the two weapon system was some kind of realism tacticool thing, but I think it was a dip into being an immersive sim. Your weapon would run out and you would scavenge for the next one and pick it off a fallen enemy, and it wouldn't have full ammo after the shots the enemy got to fire. The point was so you would run out of ammo, then have to improvise with whatever weapon was in reach. In reality it never worked like that. There were plenty of pickups to keep using the best weapons. There wasn't a lot of weapons. The best weapons weren't rare. And you started with the best weapon. Also people shit on halo for fox and grapes and no other reason. Just play PC fps of that era and you'll understand. They weren't as flashy and novel or well produced. So they build everything on halo being slow and PC fps being fast and acrobatic, even though that's just arena FPS and other games like doom, duke, counter strike, battlefield, and half life and later battlefield 1942 don't fit that description. Quake and unreal are the only examples of PC FPS and everything is beneath them. You can imagine how such mindset drove a community to kill their own games.
>>12670606its going to be so funny when zoomers get into their 30s and the games of their childhood become old and literally noone will be talking about them. Itll just be gen alphas playing millennial and gen x games while the zoomer era is completely abandoned. zoomers truly are the most cucked generation i feel bad. they have fucking nothing.
>>12675305its funny how we're the same age but youre still youthful and actually trying to bargain with these psychopaths. >>12676339>If you want to talk about games get out of here as fast as possible the board is doomed.reddit is unironically the best play for retro discussion. you just need to find the right subreddits. yes it's sanitized but the mods there actually giving a shit is refreshing and it's worth not having to wade waist-deep in sewage forever to find a good discussion

>>12677187I'd rather fucking kill myself, I've seen what those places are like with things that I really like, and the people there are far worse than any of the worst people here by a colossal margin.I'll take my chances and wait for mods/jannies to be assigned here instead, it's comparatively MUCH less miserable. I still find enough good discussion here to be well worth it in spite of all the piling up bile.
>>12677204All those places turn into a hivemind and mutual suck off for updoots, only the safest normie opinions are allowed. You can't actually share your opinion there, meaning there is also no actually meaningful discussion there.
>>12677206Yes, combine the vote system with how mods on Reddit are out in the open like tripfags (remember 10 years ago when there were tripfags everywhere on all boards? now imagine that they could ban you and that there were people publicly sucking up to them any chance they got), and it creates a very poisonous and incestuous environment, even before we get into the political aspects of how that has worked out.I like that people here are mostly anonymous, that posts primarily stand on what they contain. I've made contributions to /vr/ projects before, and I had my name left in the credits, but these days I almost never do that when making contributions, it feels good to contribute anonymously instead. There's places to have a recognized identity, but here is not it. A place like this still needs taking care of though, places with zero rules or enforcement become races to the bottom in a completely different manner, and because some retards just really want that.I hope for new caretakers here, and also that they aren't completely retarded. I guess we'll see, if we're lucky we'll get the place looking more like it did a few years back.
>>12677206People talk about toxic negativity sometimes, but I would say that Reddit is a good example of a place where you see the kind damage which toxic positivity will do to a community.
>>12677187I used to post on small forums decades ago and ive been here for just as long. the anonymous style used to work but nowadays it only benefits psychopaths and non english speakers who are taking over. If theres no name next to a post then theres no point treating the person like a human anymore because they likely arent, the world is too different now.I went on reddit for the first time in like 10 years the other day and even that website seems full of nameless bots. All the names are just randomly generated and when you click their post history its all empty or blocked? That place might as well be 4chan except you have to be on your best behavior.
>>12677238you can be negative on reddit barring the usual few controversial topics. you'll get push back if you make some kind of grand claim that what people enjoy is entirely asinine or you post some kind of schizo rage bait, but you can post hot takes about a given subject to a reasonable enough degree. if what you say is true there would be an enclave defending the sony physical media decision which isn't the case even in the playstation subreddit.
>>12677206>You can't actually share your opinion thereyes you can. the problem you're still mentally 16 and you can't share your opinion without using a racial slur every 3rd word. or your opinion is so underbaked that you just come off as an impotent 16 year old screeching about a thing you don't like and get upset at others liking it.
>>12677298>You notice how there is 0 comedy on this board anymore, no joking, its entirely rage trolling, schizophrenic self arguing, and name callingBecause standards aren't enforced here currently. Staff putting actual effort in for clearing out that kind of bullshit both makes room for better posts and also forces people to put more thought into being funny.>If theres no name next to a post then theres no point treating the person like a human anymore because they likely arent, the world is too different now. They will if there's enough consequences. >>12677796>People know how to compartmentalize and code switchok, but that doesn't change the fact that when people here cry about reddit it's usually because they can't say gamer words. also because they're too stupid to understand how the site works and that the default subreddits you see when not logged in aren't all of reddit. much like /b/ isn't all of 4chan.
>>12677679>You will never understand it because you're afraid of those wordsyou would never call someone a nigger in real life because you are afraid of that word. dont kid yourself I know exactly who you are.
>>12676335Halo being slow and floaty combined with everyone being a bullet sponge is exactly what makes it feel like shit to play. The 2 weapon thing was also strange, because you would exhaust half your ammo on one person then need more ammo. So basically everyone ended up 3mph bunny hopping, trying to hog certain weapons, throwing sticky grenades spraying people with bullet hoses. Halo was just exhausting to play, exasperating even.
>>12677825>hurr durr but what about real lifeClassic normalfag cancer.

>>12670606Halo is one of those games my millennial friends love to recommend but when I start playing and ask them how to get past a certain part they're like "Oh I dunno, I just played on Live."

>>12670606So what, go back to your funslop then.
>>12677946You start with a pistol that kills in 3-4 shots from across most maps. Anyone using the AR in multiplayer is either very new or trying to go for point-blank spraying followed by melee.
>>12670625oh contrare. A lot of games from this era were fun. Halo was just always kind of whatever. You can go and play Half Life 1 or 2 right now, and they're still great.

>>12671054Huh, it totally dawned on me that all the doritos and mountain dew shilling was for gamers who still gamed on the couch with their friends.
What's with Halo 2's shield and super lacking health? It's a lot harder than the 1st game on heroic. This just leads you to wait like a retard behind cover at damn near every engagement.I like Halo 1's gameplay but this is a lot less fun.
to be fair you have to have a high IQ to appreciate halo 1
>>12678990>It's a lot harder than the 1st game on heroic.it's not that it's harder, it's just more tedious. what i think happened is that they intentionally stretched out every encounter because of the low enemy count because the game is held together by duct tape.
>>12676312you really thought you said something here, didn’t you?
>>12678996>Rick and Morty fedora memeI know you're meming but nonironically the Halo lore was smarter mil-SF than, say, Star Wars' or Trek's. In ~2000 that was the competition (well, SW anyway, Trek games were still shit).
I can't believe people played this shit on console. The game is destroying me on heroic. How does OP think this isn't fun? I haven't liked an fps this much since Doom Eternal on UV
>>12681257the trick is to leverage the aim assist. you don't have to be dead-on with your headshots, just in the general vicinity. also learn how to get good at headshots (and sideshots for the jackals)
>>12682852I'm not sure if there's aim assist on kb/m? My aim isn't good, but not so bad that it's what makes me struggle, I think.but thanks, the wep reticle is so big I forget about headshot except with the sniper.
>>12683134>I'm not sure if there's aim assist on kb/m?oh, no i don't think so. the halo games are meant for controller. play it with an xbox one. you're unnecessarily handicapping yourself with kbm. when the MCC finally game to PC in 2020 i was like "holy shit finally i can play with kbm!" and then i get the floor wiped with me in multiplayer. went to controller and was doing just fine. the games are just flat out meant for controller.
>>12683134>>12683178also another tip: since you do only have 2 weapons, get good with all of them. you're going to be constantly rotating between all of them throughout a level because regular ammo stashes aren't always going to have pistol/shotgun/sniper/rocker launcher ammo. when you do get the big boys (rocket launcher, sniper) hang onto them and only use them when you know you can get guaranteed kills.
>>12683178There's aim assist for the plasma rifle when aiming at Flood infection forms when using a mouse, I noticed.
