Why is this thing so underwhelming? Not even the RPG library is actually that good, if you go off official US releases. Anyways, what are some good hidden gems for this system? All genres welcome.

You shouldn't like the Super Nintendo.
You see, its CPU's Mhz number is lower than that of the Genesis.
Also, the games are all for kiddies.
Stop liking it.

The ONLY two games worth playing are Push-Over, Spindizzy Worlds, and SimEarth. ALL others are absolute trash and even thinking about what their titles are will permanently decrease your ability to enjoy things in the future. Good luck OP.

Was Lucasarts the developer or publisher for this? Because those are some tremendous high quality anime style cutscenes.

It was made by the same team at Lucasarts that created Zombies Ate My Neighbors. It's one of two unofficial sequels of sorts to Assault Suits Valken/Cybornator, one was made by the original devs, the other by Lucasarts. None are connected by story, but they all have similar gameplay.
>>
>>12672701
Exactly. All the games on SNES feel like they were made by AI. Games on Genesis like Streets of Rage and Phantasy Star IV are far more soulful.
>>
>>12673194
I figured so much. If you look closely it definitely looks Japanese, but it's not, it's really just anime styled. There is something just slightly off, too much focus on drawing accurate looking people.

It's shocking how irredeemably bad the SNES is when you actually look at it. This is what millennial Americans were calling "best console ever" for decades? At least it serves as a good litmus test, because if someone claims he likes SNES, I immediately know he's a nonplayer larping faggot and I can disregard any opinions he has.

This is the funniest thing about SNES drones. Unlike other mutations of the tendie, the SNES drone isn't content to proclaim his system as the "best ever" based on Mario and Zelda alone. He thinks he has a reputation to uphold, of having a huge games library with depth to explore, so he always has to find random garbage tier shit to try to claim there's something worth playing. He has never actually played these games, because if he did, he would never embarrass himself by trying to claim this is the sort of shit he considers good. But he's hoping you haven't played them either, so you won't notice and you'll simply let him get away with it.
SNES drones are pretty unique in this pathology. They want so badly to look like they care about more than the typical tendie slop, but unlike pretty much any other system from that era, the SNES just doesn't have the library quality to back that up, mostly because it's a 2.68 mhz shitbox that every developer struggled to get to perform even the most basic tasks. If SNES drones really wanted to find large lists of 16-bit games worth bragging for, it would not be hard to find them outside of SNES. It's all rather sad and pathetic.

>if I pad out Rockman X with 5 other shit picks that I've never played, THAT will show him!!!!
Again, it's the self-humiliating SNES drone mindset in action. These people really hope you don't know that Demon's Crest is one of the slowest, more boring games imaginable. The only game that you named that's not bootleg tier is Rockman X, and even that is a game where the 2.68 mhz SNES can't pull it's weight, constantly struggling and slowing down. It's a decent game but not on SNES. Rockman X4 completely supplants it and is the actual first excellent game in that series. But you wouldn't know that because that's a PlayStation game, and SNES drones are allergic to systems that actually have vast libraries of quality titles, or worthwhile JRPGs.

Super Mario RPG, Front Mission + Gun Hazard, and Chrono Trigger are like crack here for me. Can't into the other games though. Guess I'm a filtered zoomlet.

>You literally think Amiga games are good
SNES drone queers are so incapable of offering even the most basic defense for their golden child "best console ever", that the moment you start to call them out on their bullshit, they have to pivot and deflect to the most embarrassing strawman arguments. Really quite sad. This is exactly why fans of other 16-bit systems don't care for SNES or her gay SNES drone fans.
>>
Only SNESdrones like the mhz snezzz, all the other based gamers play in better 16bit systems, such as the superiour Amoga

>Rockman X4 completely supplants it and is the actual first excellent game in that series
Does anyone except Auster (who hasn't played neither) actually believes this? The only thing X4 has over the original and that justified its existence is the Zero campaign, and they were already halfway there with X3. I can't think of anything else that X4 does better. The levels are more straightforward and simple, except for the bike one, which sucks ass; the weapons aren't nearly as good; the Sigma levels are really short and easy; some bosses really aren't good, like the General who spends most of the fight offscreen; they didn't bring back the feature that modifies some of the levels by beating others first; you still have mandatory backtracking if you want to collect all the upgrades, something that only X2 did right, and it's an especially egregious mistake here since needing a charged Twin Slasher for the capsule in Magma Dragoon's level feels utterly stupid and arbitrary. And most agregiously, they messed up the controls: you can't no longer dash indefinitely on the ground, you come to a stop every time a dash ends. So if you want to keep the same momentum you had in the SNES games you need to constantly jump-dash like a retard.

Mega Drive flopped in Japan. By the end of the generation even the Japanese made games were designed for the American market, since that's where the money was.
>>
>>12675845
I don't think this is completely true, the Genesis had a decent install base in Japan got some very amazing shmups such as Eliminate Down and Grind Stormer. But otherwise, yes. There was a much much larger American market.

>>
>>12677896
Main reason why people avoided the snes is because people are forced to learn assembly languages to do anything good because C/C++ is too bloated and slow. there's no easy sdk to make slop with.

Anon, there's new C64 homebrews every week, written in assembly without some easy SDK. The C64 does it and yet one of the most popular systems has no homebrew?
Someday you'll have to grapple with the plain and simple truth, the SNES hardware itself is the reason nobody is making SNES homebrews.

I think it really came down to the color palette and sound chip. Look at the early SNES RPGs. They were all defined by a great soundtrack and very colorful graphics. It didn't need speed, or lots of sprites flying all over.

The SNES is so stacked with good games, I think you can go into the 200s on this list and still find games that are fun and worth playing to this day. Check it out.

I remember renting this game a couple of times as a kid. I liked it, god damn Gomez is slippery though. The music, atmosphere and scale of the house was cool though. Never beat it, one of those games thats too hard to beat as a rental, at least without somehow knowing about all the secrets
>>
>>12679172
I wouldn't say completely flopped. they still had a decent chunk of the market, 3.6 million units sold but it definitely came in a distant third. NEC beat Sega to the Market by 1 year and that was at least perceived to make a huge difference. I think that lesson is why Sega released the Genesis and Saturn in the US soon. NEC waited to release the Turbografx and it sold poorly in the US.
