I've beaten Rolling Thunder 2, I've beaten Rolling Thunder 3, I've beaten Code Name - Viper... but this is crazy fucking hard. Even with the fastest reflexes (and the game is unplayable with the tiniest amount of input lag) and forknowledge of enemy placement, there is so many things that can go wrong
>>12675557Nice tits.
>>12675557Not sure about the NES version but the arcade has a second loop you have to play to actually finish it. You should probably watch a play through. It gets worse.
>>12675557wtf go play the arcade versions of 1 and 2 the console ports are fucking horrible
>>12676043I'm at 8-2 so I hope I'm nearing the end. If there is a harder second loop I won't even try to be honest.>>12676146There is nothing wrong about it, it's a good version
>>12676634>8-2 Sorry I mean 2-8; story 2 level 8
yes I'm still stuck in 2-8. This entire part starting with the birds is fucking ridiculous and the level just won't fucking end. It takes me an hour of play just to make baby steps worth of progress.
>>12676043>the arcade has a second loop you have to play to actually finish it
>>12675557I never played that version, but I hated the arcade versions of both the first and second games, genuinely the worst Namco games imo.
>>12676043Yeah the second loop is in the nes version too. I’ve never beaten it without savescumming. It’s fucking brutal.
I finally got past 2-8, I got the timing down for the birds consistently now. If this level doesn't lead to a new password I'm going to kill myself
>>12679085https://youtu.be/NO-rPxT-3yE?
...>>12680849This is just vile
Turns out the double laser isn't so bad once you realize this jump is possible
This part at the end of the level is pure cancer though. If one or two of those enemies decide to walk to the left and camp there, which happens often, there is NOTHING you can do. The trick is to stay on the little platform on the left before the main platform I'm standing on to kill the giant bat and only advance once that's taken care of, or else it will leave too much time for these guys to walk to the left.
This is hell
>>12680815Sometimes I forget how incredibly bad people here are at video games. This is pretty boring, I'm out.
It isn't even Rolling Thunder 2 arcade where you have to memorize the final stretch because you get constantly pincer attacked with no cover and the game sends guys that shoot high and low on both sides. Try any pre-fire strategies without hitting anything but as just for caution and you'll quickly run out of bullets.
>>12682625Just play Shinobi instead.
>>12682748Well I reached the final level now, I even reached the boss room once. Shit is pretty fucked though because there are no checkpoints and you have to go through this area every time >>12682625 and on top of this there is no timer refill in the stage, I got to the boss room with 30 seconds left and I got killed by a minion spawn literally where I was standing (in the middle of the room, just where the player will be at once they all spawn) before I got to see his face. I'm not even sure I'd have enough time left unless I find ways to go through the level faster but several certain situations in the stage rely on waiting if enemies randomly don't go in the correct direction.
>>12682768I want to know if there is a boss fight on the first story?
>>12683789I've only played the arcade original and there wasn't a boss fight for the first story end.
>game takes place in 1968Huh, makes sense for the music and fashion
was this a lupin game reskinned? or used to make a lupin game?
Play rough ranger instead.
>>12682697This is the wrong thread for that complaint. Try the DKC thread.
My dad bought me Codename Viper, but I wasn't aware know there were spiritual prequels.
>>12684461Codename Viper is really good, I like the civilian saving mechanic and the fact that you can shoot when jumping. You should try Rolling Thunder 2 and 3 on Megadrive if you liked it.
I have yet to reach the 'boss' room again. This part gets me almost every time. I still wonder if there is a better strategy than the 'waiting and baiting until they jump the left' that I do here >>12682625 but I can't find it if there is, if you jump to the next platform it's almost guaranteed that you'll die and you can't shoot back at that guy.And of course just to attempt the level again when you run out of continues you have to go through the previous level again, and the final stretch of that feels like an 80% chance I won't survive even if I do it right.
>>12685035I've been playing through Rolling Thunder myself, got 1 attempt at the final boss so far. To clear that section, you can do jumps to persuade the purple guy to jump down to the crate so you can shoot him. In order to persuade the green guy to jump up to the crate, you need to hang around on the top box. After sitting for a few seconds, he will decide to jump up one box; you'll need to drop to the left and duck immediately. Hope this helps.
>>12685345>. In order to persuade the green guy to jump up to the crate, you need to hang around on the top boxYeah that's what I've been trying to do but it doesn't always work or it takes forever. No better solution thoughdo you have a better strategy for the final stretch of 2-9? Webm is what I'm doing but it fails 80% of the time because the enemies either walk against the left wall or shoot at me before I make it to the ground; even if I make sure to kill the bat before they can spawn and move
>>12686118Replaying it today, you need to be both on the left edge of the top crate and facing left.My strategy for that section in 2-9 basically involves patience and AI abuse. When an enemy is walking away from the wall, you can usually drop down relatively safely. If they're jumping against the wall, you can time your own jump over them. I just hold out patience to clear that section. The yellow guy can get lured out to you, and he can be shot while he jumps up at you. I usually have a decent amount of time on the timer so I'm not scared of a time over on this stage.
I am monitoring OP's journey. Good luck, OP.
>backtrack just a little bit>second enemy (grenade guy) re-spawns even though the first one was still aliveHate when that happensI'm doing a bit better though I wasted too much at the end here>>12686391I'm only playing a bit every day because otherwise I lose my cool with this game so this could take a while
nice tits
The real issue for me now isn't even the crates area, but what I call the coinflip situations. I've identified 3 situations in the final level where it's like a 50-50 chance you'll get fucked even if you do the right thing and there is nothing else you can do about it. This is one of them, if you drop down the crate the enemy spawns in your face and you lose at least 1 HP guaranteed (and death if you're unlucky), if you jump it's 50-50 chance he'll shoot you in the back before you can do anything about it. 3 potential situations like this coupled with the fact that this is the only level without a mid level checkpoint and the fact that you don't have the luxury of waiting around too long for situations to go your way because there level doesn't have a timer refill either makes it really hard to even reach the boss room.
Hm, looks like dropping down might lead to better chances after all? Every time I tried before the enemy just spawned in my face...
>>12689105I've found that sometimes performing a section differently can get different results. My strategy for that box jump is to have my foot kind of centered in the center of the right pillar in the background. I'm stuck on the enemy wave right before the final boss. I'm hoping I don't have to memorize a pattern.
>>12689116>My strategy for that box jump is to have my foot kind of centeredRight! Because if you do a "stop & go" you'll drop down a couple pixels earlier than if you keep walking, right?
Godspeed, OP
>>12689123I position myself about here, then jump right from standstill. It still feels like a crap shoot but this seems like the way to get him to duck before turning around.
