The original is pretty clear that Cloud is only crossdressing to be allowed in so he can stop Aeris from being RAPED by the sexual predators within the mansion. His attempts to look more convincing as a woman accidentally trick Corneo into choosing him as his girl for the evening, which is supposed to be funny.In the remake, Cloud unironically goes through a "glam up" and it is treated like a very brave and cool thing to dress like a girl and twirl around like a fag. Cloud was 100% fine with letting Aeris go into the mansion alone too, because rape doesn't exist in the more civilized society of the 2010s/20s.
