Publisher FAKKU Games has acquired the rights to the entire back catalog of F&C and has announced they will be rereleasing various Fairytale and Cocktail Soft games with official English translations. The Venn diagram of people who are interested in PC-98 games and people who buy ROMs on Steam is two circles about a kilometer apart. I can't imagine these will sell very well.

>>12677652Dengeki Nurse already has a Steam page. This looks like the game in an emulator. I guess it's possible it's a native Windows port, but at the very least it's definitely not a remaster. I personally think that's a good thing since ""remasters"" are invariably orders of magnitude worse than the games they're based on, but there's a reason companies make remasters and it's not because they like spending money for no reason.

>>12677906A decent amount of the library is English accessible. There's at least 40 games that have fan translations. Puzzle and action games are playable without being able to read anything. There's also the option of using texthook + MTL. I wouldn't recommend that for text heavy adventure games and RPGs where the entire experience is reading, but I think is good enough for strategy and simulation games where the writing takes a backseat to the gameplay.

On a related note, about a month ago, the Fairytale game Crazed Fruit got a Windows port with a physical CD release. For some strange reason, they gave the game a full English translation even though it has no distribution outside Japan. I'm kind of temped to buy it, but international shipping to the US a nightmare right now. I wonder how long it will be in stock for.

In addition to this new Windows port, they also did a reprint of the Sharp X68000 version, though that doesn't have English language support.No one bothered to implement proper line breaking so it looks super ghetto, but apparently they did outsource a legit human translation. It's not MTL. They gave the same treatment to the game Cyberblock Metal Orange EX, so you can buy a CD of that and play it in English too.I have no idea if there's DRM. Probably not?

>>12682461I highly doubt anyone here has played any of these games in both Japanese and English, so you're unlikely to get a proper answer to that question. That being said, as an EOP, I can at the very least attest to not having seen any obvious English writing issues (grammatical mistakes, awkward phrasing, etc.) in what I've played from them. (I've finished Dead of the Brain and am at what I'm guessing is around the halfway point of Dengeki Nurse.)
