Bernard Stolar became the President of Sega of America in 1996, but prior to that he was an executive and founding member of Sony Computer Entertainment America, which was Sega's primary competitor at this time. It seems to me like it would be a conflict of interest for a company to be lead by a guy who used to lead the competition.I was reading up on this guy and it seemed like he deliberately sabotaged the Saturn right from the moment he took over. You don't have to take my word for it either. There's various quotes by him saying things like "The Saturn is not our future" and he criticizes the Saturn's hardware and how it is designed, etc. This stuff is all on record and I'm not making it up. I also read how he sabotaged the development of Sonix X-treme, a game which the Saturn critically needed at this time and which might have made all the difference in the world for it, but because of his botched (or deliberately sabotaged) efforts, it ended up being cancelled and by all accounts everyone who worked on it was left heartbroken and still don't want to talk about it.Could it be that his "former" allegiance to SCEA might have something to do with all this? I often hear people say this guy was just terrible and made terrible decisions because he sucked, but he seemed to make correct decisions during the time when he was at Sony. That's because he was a Sony fan and he wanted them to win, but he did not want Sega to win so he purposely threw a wrench into the gears wherever he could.
No matter how many threads you make we'll never care about this guy

No matter what you say about Sega of America, it was Sega of Japan that said "the Saturn doesn't need a Sonic game" and actually let Yuji Naka and his team make a gay clown playaround game that appealed to absolutely nobody in the West. Now, the Genesis was a huge hit in the West and was still doing decent with sports games as it was being shelved. This was seemingly hated by SoJ, who consistently failed to get the Genesis or Sonic to be accepted by the Japanese, so they decided the Saturn would ONLY appeal to the Japanese market and that SoA would just have to accept it and lose market share/relevancy.I seriously cannot understand why people blame anyone at SoA for the Saturn failing. SoA kept telling them "hey we need a Sonic game to sell the system, then people will be able to buy other games like Nights!" and kept getting rebuked.

>>12678750Correction: He sabotaged the Atari Jaguar, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, DreamCast AND Mattel (and the WonderSwan Western launch). Then he worked on free-to-play games as early as 2008 so you could say he had a part in sabotaging mobile games too.Bernie Stolar defenders often fall back on narratives that Sega of America was already shit and in dire straits, or that Sega of Japan was retarded and Yuji Naka sabotaged Sonic Xtreme and delayed Sonic Team (SoJ)'s Sonic well into 1997 but that's all cleaning up the legacy of their nepokike. All it takes is basic pattern recognition. The exact same bad decisions happened across all console divisions he oversaw. Fucking Barbie had a videogame sabbatical with no released games in the same period he took over Mattel (and sabotaged their WonderSwan deal). The same underfunding and refusing to pay developers and hostility toward third parties seen for the Atari Jaguar was done with the Sega Saturn projects. He had Sega of America reject Mega Drive ports but approve them as PC exclusives, he was constantly sabotaging first and third party releases alike refusing to market or print enough discs to turn even any semblance of profit, he was feeding false feedback to SoJ, and he gave a disastrous delay AND launch price cut for the dreamcast ensuring its doom despite the launch games being ready and localized over a year ago. SoJ would collaborate with devs for Saturn games to revitalise it in America and he would summarily reject them, or pretend to do them to prevent third parties, or go to third parties and tell them to stop publishing for the Saturn, only for these games to mysteriously get PS1 ports, and then it turns out he tried to approve N64 ports of Sega Arcade exclusives behind SoJ's back even as he was rejecting them for Saturn and delaying the DreamCast. The DreamCast being powered by Microsoft CE ended up disastrous given xboxHe lamented in interviews that Nintendo Japan had "too much control over NoA".

>>12678826>He lamented in interviews that Nintendo Japan had "too much control over NoA".Nintendo is the one video game giant of that era which he wasn't involved in, which is probably the reason why Nintendo survived through that difficult period mostly intact (despite screwing up pretty bad with the decision of making the N64 be cartridge-based).Anyway, if Nintendo of Japan holding NoA's reins too firmly is what prevented Stolar from getting his claws into them and subverting them like he did to Sega, then its a damn shame that Sega of Japan didn't hold Sega America by as firm of a leash. Nintendo kept their American subsidiary under tight control, but Sega was too lax. That's why things played out as they did.
>>12679314I think the big difference is that the Genesis so wildly popular in the west, especially comapared to its general failure in the east, that SoA innately commanded a pretty much unheard amount of influence over the Japanese owned business.

The main house thought it was for decoration, the drug addicts in the garage were throwing furniture at the bushfire then it engulfed the garage. The main house was happy that Michael Jackson visited the garage, and about the previous successful garage sale (which was almost sabotaged when the garage dwellers procastinated on the blue hedgedog plushies until deadlines came near) and said they could afford a gay clown or two, and a fmv shinobi, because the garage could make their own, but all of that burned. Then they got a "helper" called Bernie Stolar and the fire spread to the main building as he refused and prevented attempts at slowing down the fire and just watched.
>>12679314All of NoA's top brass was close personal acquaintances of top NCL staff (one was yamauchi's son-in-law basically)NoA often went rogue with their inhouse development (separate from localization) and NCL would cancel their projects often. For example NoA ignored NCL plans and developed Mario Paint 64 on their own ignoring NCL plans (Mario no Photopi, Mario Artist) so they outright had them cancel it and take it apart as bonus modes for the Japan-only Mario Artist 64 DD. Then they gutted it massively around the GameCube gen during the Project Hammer fuckery. Even when they bought Retro they had them cancel everything but Metroid Prime, and get rid of a certain problem executive.

He was sure he'd get a new hedgedog plushie done by 1997 but he underestimated how fast he would work on it, and then was surprised by the fire entering the main house. Yuji Naked then started walking around the main house chain smoking and carelessly throwing lit cigarettes which then started small fires.
These events would go on to inspire a Saturn game called Burning Rangers, developed by Sonic Team and directed by Yuji Naka and featuring Yuji Naka (as an NPC).
>>12680065>israeli devnow it's all coming together.
>>12679096>All tranny clown did was replace the smoke detectors with cardboard cutouts. The tranny clown was Sonic Team's attempt to experiment with 3d platformers, a novel concept at that time. The real issue, at the very least according to Yuji Naka's confessions to his own mistakes, that the tranny clown game was buggy, unfun, and they underestimated how long it took to fix it, and that Yuji Naka already convinced SoJ to give Sonic (3D Sonic Team game) a mid/late 1997 release that was further beset with delays, that they relied on multiple american projects that crashed and bombed, that they didn't release the Sonic the Fighters Saturn port they had ready for the Saturn in late summer 96 for some reason and instead released gay clown now with chrismas sonic and a megadrive game from earlier that year instead (containing some of sonic team's work on sonic 3d for the special stages), that "some" work was nearly finished among the multiple western sonic 3d games by late 96 but never released early 97 for some reason, and that sonic cd was finished but kept pc exclusive.Even with the cards already dealt to SoJ, a different release strategy in the west for the existing work would have worked wonders. Not that bernie stolar would allow that.Bernie Stolar is also the guy who wanted the satirn library to be just sports games and then intentionally pissed off all sports game publishers by developing a (shitty) sports game competitor, ensuring the dreamcast was singled out with no sports games among its competition
Not that Sega didn't have it coming, entrusting Sonic to Americans. On the Japanese side Sonic 1 and Sonic CD went smoothly, and handhelds had a steady output of Sonic games. On the American side there's botched arcade localizations (SoA deemed SegaSonic Arcade a failure after requesting lots of changes to tie it in to an american cartoon, then released it anyways IN JAPANESE, and there's another game where they switched sonic and eggman's VAs)and there's botched projects. SoA refused to greenlit Sonic 2 thinking they could coast on fucking Kid Chameleon then two months later rushed the team, half of the game was cut to meet deadlines. Then Sonic 3 had an unrealistic deadline to meet some McDonalds promotion, and they also wanted it to be a 3D game on thr megadrive with all new assets, even with the fallback plans they released only 50% of it and then the other half later.Their other major project (Garfield) was also cut in half. Then for the X32 they were making autoplay demos for Sonic that were not actually a working game to fool SoJ, and they had a PC division so disinterested in console dev they developed demos of the Saturn killer app without ever testing it on Saturn hardware for months. Then they didn't release the finished PC product anyways but still released exclusive PC ports of games that made more sense on the Saturn. Then for the DreamCast SoA pushed for all devs to use an underpowered Windows CE OS instead of making use of the dreamcast for who knows why but were thankfully overruled
>>12678103>he deliberately sabotaged the Saturn right from the moment he took overNo. Sega of Japan did that. >>12680830>On the Japanese side Sonic 1 and Sonic CD went smoothly,Sonic 1 and CD sold practically fuck-all in Japan. It wasn't "smooth", it was non existent. And it wasn't just because the Megadrive itself was a xbox tier flop in japan, it was because the whole snarky cartoon character just doesn't fucking sell there. It was so bad they had to try re-introducing the character twice, once with Sonic Jam and once with Sonic Adventure, I think they only finally broke the 1M barrier with the latter and that's because the console launched with like two games only once of which was Sonic Adventure.>and handhelds had a steady output of Sonic games.Handheld Sonic games were outsourced to Ancient or whoever else. Also the Game Gear was the only successful Sega console in Japan, and even then they admitted that sales usually picked up at the same time when Nintendo was pushing the Gameboy. In other words, nobody gave a shit about the Game Gear, parents just saw an ad for a portable game machine and bought a portable machine which was 50/50 to be either a Boy or Gear.

How to fix the Saturn:1 - Listen to Kalinske
>>12681585>>12681585Yeah let's have Sony a 2 year lead market and make an even harder console to developpe for than the Saturn

This was especially evident in the two groups' differing views of how to manage the Sega Saturn.>In 1995 Kalinske openly opposed the infamously-early release of the Saturn, dubbed Saturnday, citing its hasty launch as damaging to both retailer relationships and Saturn's fledgling game library>His autonomy was further reduced when Sega Enterprises, Ltd. underwent corporate restructuring in early 1996,[13] resulting in Kalinske feeling increasingly sidelined in the company he had been hired to lead. He eventually tendered his resignation, announced July 16, 1996 and effective September 30Holy shit, Kalinske was the GOAT. He was right about everything. >Kalinske took Sega's American market share from 6% to 58% in the course of six years.Holy shit
>>12681595Are you implying sega would've gone bankrupt because of Kalinske?
>>12681595>Yeah let's have Sony a 2 year lead market and make an even harder console to developpe for than the SaturnNTA, but I think in the context of the 32X a 2 year delay on the Saturn would have made logical sense. First of all, not only would this have given enough time to get the Saturn's software line-up in order, but it also would have given the 32X enough of a lifespan that consumers wouldn't have felt burned by how quickly SEGA pulled the plug on it.Even though allowing Sony to have a head start sounds bad, how could it be worse than what actually happened? SEGA cut corners and shoved the Saturn out into market when it was half-baked and unready. They did this to beat the Playstation to the punch. Okay, they did that, but guess what... they lost. So obviously that didn't work out.I think being more patient and waiting till it was properly cooked before taking it out of the oven would have been the better way to go. It couldn't be worse than what actually happened, right? And this is also where the 32X fits in, because it was always supposed to be soemthing to tide their fans over until the Saturn came. But the Saturn came too fast and thus the 32X was never a good idea. But if the Saturn came slow then the 32X actually makes sense and it might have worked out.
Delaying the Saturn would have definitely been the better choice. Sega pushed the Saturn out early and what happened is that they didn't really have any software, they didn't have a sdk. They burned retailers and third party developers by jumping the gun. Obviously the early release was the worst possible decision they could have made.

>>12681635I didn't say the Saturn could win I'm just saying not launching early would have been a better choice.
>>12681629The Saturn should have been skipped over. Pump out games maxing out 32x while you build up the successor Dreamcast with a library of titles and release it as early as possible.
>>12681710No one was going to develop games for the 32x by 1996. The industry was moving on to fifth gen. The Saturn was overcomplicated but it was really the lack of an SDK that damned it for developers and by the time Sega pushed one out it was too little too late.

>>12681893>It should have been a worlwide 1994 release for the Saturn, almost 1 year lead with the PlayStationThe earlier the Saturn came out, the worst the technology that went into it would be. Technology moved fast in the 90s so even a year would have made a dramatic difference in the technical specs of a console. The sooner you rush it, the worse the specs would inevitable be, but the longer it takes to develop the better the design would be. Also there's the matter of games. The Saturn had a disappointing launch line-up as it was. Doing what you suggest and rushing it even sooner would have made that problem even worse. No, I think Kallinske clearly had the right idea by saying the Saturn needed a longer gestation period. Unfortunately he was over-ruled by corporate Japan.

>>12683116Yeah sure the 32X will face the PlayStation ahahaWhat a moron kalinske was
>>12683181>Yeah sure the 32X will face the PlayStation ahahaEssentially it is like what Nintendo was doing to extend the life of the SNES on up until they finally released the N64, which wasn't until late 1996. So that proves the idea has merit.Late SNES games with enhancement chips like Super Mario RPG had graphics comparable to PS1 games. Even if its not as good, it was close enough to keep Nintendo fans satisfied until the N64 came out. But even though Nintendo's strategy worked, the downside of it was every SNES cartridge using those enhancement chips was expensive as hell to manufacture because of those chips. SEGA's strategy was sound because the 32x basically included the enhancement stuff that people only had to buy once and every cart thereafter could use those chips but wouldn't be expensive to manufacture so it would have worked at least as well as Nintendo's strategy, but only if it had been supported properly, which unfortunately due to the rushing out of the Saturn it wasn't. But it could have been.If properly supported (that's the key thing) the 32X (perhaps together with the SEGA CD) would have kept SEGA fans satisfied for another 2 years until the Saturn was ready. It worked for Nintendo, so that's the proof of it.Also, remember that one of the reasons why the Dreamcast flopped was because people held back on buying it because they knew the more powerful PS2 was on the way. So had things been handled properly by SEGA and not rushed, by that same logic, people might have held back on buying the original Playstation if they knew a much more powerful Saturn was on the way. People are willing to wait a bit for a more powerful console. The failure of the Dreamcast and success of the PS2 is proof of that.Kallinske's strategy would have worked. It fell apart all because the Saturn got rushed out prematurely.
>>12683202I don't think waiting a couple of months to release the Saturn would have done much to improve the success of the 32x. The 32x just wasn't enough of an improvement to justify its price tag. Doom was cool but it cost $70 on top of the $160 to buy a 32x.
>>12683202Saturn was only rushed out in the US. It was never going to be more powerful than the ps1
The Saturn didn't need to delay its launch, it needed to not rush it. Sega released the Saturn early which led to supply issues, which pissed off retailers and also caught out developers. Anyone saying the Saturn needed to be even earlier is so pants on head retarded it's just willful ignorance at that point. In a better timeline, the Saturn would have released with an actual SDK instead of devs waitinga year to get one.
>>12683202>Essentially it is like what Nintendo was doing to extend the life of the SNES on up until they finally released the N64, which wasn't until late 1996Yeah and it was a mistake, the N64 released too late especially in japan and europe (US wait was "just" 1 year but it was 1,5 year for japan and 1,5-2 years in europe) , Microsoft and Nintendo would learn from their mistakes and kil the GameCube/Xbox way earlier than anticipated>Late SNES games with enhancement chips like Super Mario RPG had graphics comparable to PS1 games. Lmao, yeah sure stunt race fx just look the same as Ridge Racer >SEGA's strategy was sound because the 32x basically included the enhancement stuff that people only had to buy once and every cart thereafter could use those chips Consoles add on have never worked in the west>If properly supported (that's the key thing) the 32X (perhaps together with the SEGA CD) would have kept SEGA fans satisfied for another 2 years until the Saturn was readySega need to sasisfied the general public not the fanboys who would buy everything with a sega name on it>Also, remember that one of the reasons why the Dreamcast flopped was because people held back on buying it because they knew the more powerful PS2 was on the way.People waited for the PS2 because it's predecessor was the greatest console of all time and everyone knew that the big PS1 franchise like Final fantasy, Dragon quest, Tekken,MGS etc would continue on PS2Did people waited for the GameCube and Xbox anon?>Kallinske's strategy would have worked. It fell apart all because the Saturn got rushed out prematurely.Kalinske strategy would have made Sega gone bankrupt even earlier and we problably never got a Dreamcast
>>12683289>The Saturn didn't need to delay its launch, it needed to not rush it. Agreed 32x cancelled so you can produce more Saturn and worldwide release end of 1994 (at worst Europe can wait a little longer) ,almost a full year ahead of the PlayStation 2 proposed pack in,the classic virtua fighter or the PC cd rom sensation Myst which would be groundbreaking for console gamers at the time , radically different from the 16 bits games that people were tired of
https://www.ign.com/articles/1997/04/15/treasure-talks-yuke-yuke >N64.com: Is the N64 an easy platform to develop on?>Maegawa: It is pretty difficult. Compared to the Saturn I think it's more difficult. Kalinske "you know what Saturn architecture is way too complicated for developper so how about we make an even harder one instead"Brillant kalinske
>>12683340What does Kalinske have to do with the n64
>>12683361He wanted to work with silicon graphics ,the people who made the N64
>>12683448He wanted to bring in Sony and wanted Silicon chips. Silicon chips aren't the reason the N64 was a piece of shit.
>>12683231>I don't think waiting a couple of months2 years isn't a "couple" of months; it is 24 months. Not an insignificant amount of time.>>12683238>Saturn was only rushed out in the US. It was never going to be more powerful than the ps1The Saturn is more powerful than the PS1. Its complicated and difficult to program for due to the various chips involved, but if utilized properly its able to reach far above and beyond what the Playstation could do. The PS1 reaches its limit very fast and easily, but its also much simpler to program for. You can get more out of the Saturn if you know how and are willing to make it happen, but that also takes time which is why delaying the release until the software was ready would be appropriate.
>>12683293>Kalinske strategy would have made Sega gone bankrupt even earlier and we problably never got a DreamcastHe knew what he was doing. He made the Genesis into a success, and he would have done the same with the 32X/Saturn had Japan not over-ruled him and messed everything up.
>>12683837Releasing the saturn in 1996 is an even stupider idea than all the dumb shit sega actually did.
>>12683842>all the dumb shit sega actually did.Releasing the Saturn prematurely, half-baked is the dumb shit Sega actually did. Taking time, being patient, and doing things right would have meant the Saturn would have succeeded instead of failing.
>>12683837>The Saturn is more powerful than the PS1Hahaha
>>12683894As far as shitposting and autism goes it wipes the floor with the psx.
>>12683867The Saturn was fucked either way. The actual only way it could have been salvaged (maybe) was to go with 2 CPU's and GPU's from the beginning and develop games for that from the start. That is realistically the only chance it could have had I think. Maybe having something as powerful as a 32X at reduced price but they already had 32X.
>>12683907No need to overcomplicate thingsSaturn didn't lose because it's less powerfull (64 was stronger than PS1 and fail),price issues (PS3/SNES won) or difficult start (3DS or PS3)Saturn lose because the PS1 library is just way better and appart maybe for the Wii it has always been like that, the winner is the one with the better libraryNES library is much better than master system Super famicom library is much better than the Megadrive (pal Megadrive library is actually quite comparable to SNES pal library that's why their pretty close)PS1 library is much better than Saturn or N64PS2 library is much better than it's competitorsPS3 and 360 library are extremely close so they sold almost the same...
>>12683930Yeah that's true for several reasons but the Saturn would have a better chance with the hardware settled up front so the launch titles were optimized and people saw what it could do on launch. It would start on a better foot that way at least. No overcoming the simpler PS1 hardware or Sony's super developer friendly approach combined with that. Or the price.
>>12683894>HahahaIt objectively was. It has a far higher theoretical ceiling than the PS1 did, but it was more complex and therefore harder for devs to reach that ceiling. Still, it was more powerful hardware. This is an objective fact.
>>12683982Nah https://www.reddit.com/r/SegaSaturn/s/KveW5W2j7P see knight0fdragon famous in the Saturn homebrew comment on this
>>12683982>>12683991Saturn might have a higher theoretical ceiling in pure computing power. But it has a graphics chip which is nearly a generation behind the Playstation. More compute power means fuck all if the graphics chip is stuck drawing 256 color textures with 4 color lightning so it can have more than ten textures fitting into memory on account of quads wasting a ton of VRAM. And broken transparencies.
>>12683930Saturn lost because Sega lost 3rd party support due to releasing early, a lack of an sdk on launch and the general complexity of programming for Saturn. But it's questionable if Sega would have been able to compete with Sony's manufacturing infrastructure and ability to sell the Playstation at a loss even if they had avoid all of the aforementioned problems of the Saturn. I think at best Sega could have been the second best of the gen and that Playstation was destined to be top dog.
>>12684001>Saturn might have a higher theoretical ceiling in pure computing powerIt's doesn't , knight0fdragon is clear ,the GTE (CPU coprocessor) is much much faster
>>12683991>Famous in the homebrew communityHow come i never heard of him?
>>12683982>Another "it's better on paper" postMate, it was hell to make games for. They couldn't even get the fucking thing to use both of its CPUs together in tandem. You had to buy a RAM cartridge just to play 2D arcade ports properly. A grand total of two people knew how to make it render proper transparencies instead of pixel checkerboards.A "faster" car isn't better if its wheels are square.
>>12684138He doesn't parade his new gender like the usual homebrewers tend to do.
>>12683202The main issue with the genesis is its anemic color palette. This is why enhancement chips did not really work for the genesis. Enhancement chips cannot fix the color palette.
>>12684315>The main issue with the genesis is its anemic color palette. This is why enhancement chips did not really work for the genesis. Enhancement chips cannot fix the color palette. The 32x fixes the color palette.

>>12684315The problem isn't the palette unless you want to make movie slop, the problem is that you can't upload enough tiles per frame to allow for any externally generated graphics at a decent speed. Everything that generates and uploads graphics externally to the VDP during gameplay (Sega CD scaling, FMVs, software titles running polygon graphics, SVP chip) will be capped at something like 15fps and half screen size.If they kept the original 128k VRAM configuration, you could have updated the VRAM twice as fast which would've been a huge plus. If they went a step further they also could have changed the way the VDP accesses VRAM to do double buffering, but that would have been really expensive.>>12684254>A grand total of two people knew how to make it render proper transparencies instead of pixel checkerboards. You can make transparencies easily, plenty of games do them, the problem is that you either use the VDP2 which can only render one transparent sprite per pixel, or the VDP1 which is slooooooow. And you can't do both at the same time, unless you have 2 rendering engines running in tandem. Sonic R did this.

>>12686872If you think the American internet is bad, wait until you try the Russian or Chinese one. If you are from Europe know the only reason you can say nigger on here is because the servers are based in US and the threads archive before glowies can subpoena your IP. On one hand, the grass is always greener on the other side, but in this case the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. Who do you want to be in charge? I love Japan but even they would ruin things worse than America if they were in charge. There would be no piracy, emulation, or retro gaming at all besides through niggerlicious paid subscription services like NSO. Who do you want in charge then? Brazil? Germany? Lol.
>>12686872The world only tolerates America because of the First and Second Amendments, really.
>>12678429These ones are not real double agents tho. Their loyalty is perfectly clear.
>>12686872If it weren't for the american branch of Sega, they never would have passed the PC-Engine/Turbografx in worldwide popularity, and Sonic never would have gotten a sequel.
>>12678103He was a double agent of israel
>>12687487>the american branch of SegaThat can mean many different things, and the ones handling the master system in america were definitely on track to have it meet the same fate as the sega cd, so many shitty ideas like making the cover art as unappealing as possible, and somehow fumbling what europe and brazil managed and what SoA coasted on for the game gear, but that older sega of europe/america was at least excellent as a third party publisher of sega's games, something basic yet the later SoA phases utterly failed at.Sega of America got their act together for the megadrive then fumbled the sega cd (disastrous third party publisher policies that decimated its initial support), wanted to delay sonic 2... then they fumbled the x32 and then fumbled retailer trust even further with the rushed and chaotic saturn launch and it turned out they cooked the books and overordered consoles, decimating most of their gains. Then Bernie Solar's SoA (may his memory be a curse on him and his kin) sabotaged the saturn and dreamcast so hard that the sega situation was irrecoverable despite good salesYet somehow when discussing Bernie Stolar's legacy it's always cherry picking others legacies (either SoA, SoE or even SoJ) and shifting the blames on them. Kalinske was incompetent but not Stolar levels of viciousness.
>>12683935The Saturn would also have been better without the 32x taking time and resources from its launch
>>12684258Neither do the devs i know, what did he do exactly?
>>12680441Well Naughty Dogs gave us The Last of Us Part II™ and they wrote the Diversity & Inclusion Guidelines Book in 2017 which SIE California sent to all Sony branches in order to inform their content approval processes for third parties and major first party games whether the single player cinematic experiences (Spider Man II, Ghost of Yotei, God of War) or GaaS experiences (like the critically acclaimed Concord). No more 2D games or JRPGs or games primarily developed in Japan are published by Sony nowadays, and that pesky X/O nip control scheme is retired for good. Software droughts for first party exclusives are now the expectation. Bernie would be proud that Sony is currently carrying the legacy of his ideals.
>>12689172The Saturn would be better with a SoA that wasn't so disinterested in doing its bare minimum obligations as a PUBLISHER.The communication with retailers and developers was abysmal, and they were discouraging publishers with finished games and turning them away, while giving incorrect information to SoJ they were doing otherwise. The X32 would have never been anything more than an add-on, even SoA was disinterested in providing support for ongoing X32 projects or publishing new Megadrive games besides what their own division was doing yet were expecting to coast on the existing library to somehow sell the existing stock they were hiding from SoJ.
>>12689164>wanted to delay sonic 2what's the source on this? I keep seeing it parroted constantly.
