Why was the Saturn so popular in japan but Dreamcast never achieved the same popularity there? Interesting how the Japanese brain works.

VF1 was a massive success on Saturn and is an excellent version of the game. Remix is also great and showed the potential of the console. VF2 a short while later became one of the most beloved fighters ever. Other debut Saturn titles kicked ass and there were great RPGs left and right and new franchises kicking off. Dreamcast launched with a notorious port of VF3tb and sealed the deal. Fumble out of the gates! DC is good but it was not delivering what Japanese customers wanted and Sega threw their weight behind some total stinkers.

Are rpgs the reason Saturn was so popular in japan? Makes sense why it did pretty bad in the west, although I doubt RPGs would have done well anyways.
>>

Who knows what could have worked at the time and set off huge trends? I think the best strategy would be to put out more games and stay relevant by always having something new associated with your name.

it's a great paperweight and that particular controller layout is decent for fightan

I could've written more uses for the saturn, but unfortunately, every time i talk about the saturn, my mind seems to stutter, slow down and become unusually foggy...

Saturn was built for 2D first, 3D was an afterthought. PS1 by contrast had cheap and efficient 3D rendering for the time.

If you look at the Saturn library it's mostly arcade ports and weeby 2D Japanese games that wouldn't be very popular anywhere else. Also no western developers wanted to develop for the Saturn because they had no artistic skills and would rather pursue 3D realism instead.

Saturn only had a top 10 best selling video game of the year in Japan once. In 1995 Virtua Fighter 2 was either the 3rd or 4th best selling game that year. In 1996, the year nights came out, saturn didn't make the top 10. However the snes/super famicom did. In 1996 a 6 year old console made it onto the list over sega's next gen console. Twice. 2 times. 2 of the best selling games in Japan in 1996, the year Sega released it's most important Saturn game, were games for their competitor's previous gen console and Sega didn't make the list at all. Huh?? Did the AI not bother looking at the arcade original?
>>
>>12679929
It does say below that the arcade original uses unite tired polygons, just a weird AI hallucination. Regardless, it’s well known that the original Saturn port of VF1 was rushed to meet the Saturn release date and was generally considered underwhelming, which is why VF Remix was released just a few months after.

why are bots and anons so deadset on propping up this game as the premier example of dead internet theory on /vr/, seriously

Says the faggot who made yet another sega saturn thread to somehow cope that the system just wasn't nearly as beloved as he thought. I don't understand you. It has some good games, some of them are even fun to play. What are you trying to accomplish by repeatedly shitting up the board?

Yeah but it wasn't underwhelming because it was a botched port, it was underwhelming because they didn't try to do any more with it, and it looked shitty next to Tekken even though both were basically just faithful ports.
>>
>>12678146
Interesting because Dreamcast launched with Soul Calibur in the US and that was a huge system seller that gave it real momentum before the Sony psyops started
