What's the verdict on the Final Fantasy I~VI Pixel Remaster? Are they the definitive versions? Did Nobuo Uematsu personally oversee them and re-record the OST?
>>
>>12679609
I don’t care what contrarians say, I like them, though they are overpriced.
>>
>>12679609
>Are they the definitive versions?
FF3 is debatable since there's fewer other versions of it to pick from. The others, I don't think so.
>>
I still prefer how the SNES versions look.
>>
>>12679617
I mostly agree, but I prefer PR FF1 Fighter for looking truer to the NES original.
>>
>>12679613
>though they are overpriced
FWIW they are -40% off right now in the Steam sale. Maybe still overpriced anyway, but I doubt you'll ever see it go any lower than this so anyone who is interested should buy it right now.
>>
>>12679609
They're shit.
>>12679613
You didn't beat the game.
>>12679616
Wrong, the NES/Famicom version is. >>12679617
Correct.
>>12679628
Faggot.
>>12679645
Paypig.
>>
>>12679609
they are the definitive versions for brainrotten consumers who will only play a game if the copyright on the title screen in new enough regardless of content.
>>
>>12679617
I despise how flat the sprites look, and the pastel colors are an eyesore as well. There's even missing detail in some cases. And to think this is from the same person who made the original FF6 sprites.
>>
>>12679609
For IV I would say you've got a several options.
>>
>>12679645
Actually tempting to buy the entire set now.
>>
I like them fine enough as just ports, kinda like the gba versions or ds version of 4. No reason they need to replace each other.
>>
>>12679609
Yes for the 100th time PR is the definitive version
>>
>>12679609
I’m enjoying ff1. Pretty cool to have every final fantasy on one console now although I have idea if they have done anything to 7-9 on the switch.
>>
>>12679609
>Pixel Remaster
You beat them, but you didn't REALLY beat them.
>>
I only played FF1 pixel remaster and I hated it.
>returns to magic stocks instead of MP
>keeps the enemy HP at the level it was inflated to because of the switch to MP making spells more spammable
Worst of both worlds, either play it on PS1 or PSP
>>
>>12679609
They're way too easy, not a fan. Convenient but have all the pitfalls of weird modern ports like clashing graphics and movement quirks.

I dont think any of them replace original versions but many have unique properties that make them worth playing through. I usually use this version of 5 simply cause I really like the "repeat last turn" button in battles for example and it doesn't change things TOO much (it's math is definitely easier though, Neo Exdeath doesn't miss Almagest nearly as much on SNES for example)

Don't they use the same SNES source code?
>>
>>12680035
I have no idea and can only really give my subjective experience, but the PR feels consistently a bit easier then SNES, i play both most years
>>
>>12679609
I liked IV PR but EXP bloat was noticeable even on a casual playthrough, many bosses ended just when it felt like they were getting started.
>>
>>12680060
Yeah I dont think changes are documented anywhere, but I feel like all 6 are a fair bit easier than orirignals and other versions. several are just obviously outright different games (1-2-3) with entirely rebalanced/redone systems but even 4-5-6 all feel easier, not that the snes versions are super difficult or anything
>>

>Actually tempting to buy the entire set now.
That's what I did. You actually save a little bit more when you buy the bundle that includes all of them at once, as opposed to buying them each separately. Since I wanted to have every single one of them it was a no-brainer for me.

Fuck no.

A few people here are judging all these games as one but I think the Pixel Remasters should be judged individually, which is what I'll do.

FF1 - The Pixel Remaster version is mostly great, it actually brings back the buff sprites when your classes are upgraded and it retains spell charges and other mechanics from the original game. It lets you level up to 99 instead of 50 which sucks and the game is far to easy, but it's not the worst version of the game.

FF2 - Looks great, fixes a lot of things, you no longer need to spam the fight button and go back and fourth for 10 minutes to level up your stats. I'd argue outside of the odd conflicting artstyle, this is a great version of the game.

FF3 - I don't like the pixel remaster for this one that much, FF3 on the NES has aged quite good to be playable without worry of bugs. It's been balanced a bit better and has autosaves but personally autosaves ruin the experience, the crystal tower was a real final stretch challenge and should've remained as such.

FF4 - Pixel Remaster is piss easy and the sprites don't look as good, you can buy sirens so getting pink puffs to spawn is 100% of the time going to happen, so getting adament armour for everyone and annihilating the difficulty curve is just way to easy. Play the SNES version, it's the best version.

FF5 - I like this version, it was my first exposure to FFV and it lead me to playing the SNES version soon after. I'd recommend this for people who never got the chance to experience this or want to learn how standard job systems work but again like 4, the SNES or GBA is superior.

FF6 - The best looking and polished one since Square hyped up the pixel remaster for this one, it's also really good but another case where I'll repeat myself and say the SNES does a lot of things better, with a few gamma correction and sprite fix mods it is easily the definitive version of the game.

You do indeed level up faster, FF4 PR was modelled a lot from the Easy Type. You can easily get to level 60 before zeromus which is really over levelled at that point, the enemies are also just really weak.

You know what would be really cool? If we took more pixel retro games and replaced them with dogshit cellphone graphics circa 2012

Hell no
But they are the most convenient way to play. It's great for introducing friends to the series.
>>
>>12679609
Poomakes
If they had DLCs of the extra content their predecessors had, they would have been perfect remasters.
>>
>>12679617
snes has more detail and balance vibrance but the remaster makes it more comprehensive to their concept/promo arts
>>
I really loved the expressions and emotions shown by the sprites of 5 and 6 on SNES. 4 looks best as the DS remake imo.
