I used to love finding these types of games as a bored 12 year old many years ago. The one I posted specifically was always fascinating to me because it was programmed in vb6 back in 1996. The guy who was running it in 2011 threatened to ban me for a month because he couldn't fathom I was a legitimately new player when I asked for help. God damn these games sucked so much ass but I put so much time into them so I have a soft spot for these grindy frustrating messes.
>>12680175Yes I used to love this shit but I haven't done it in a long time and the nostalgia it invokes in me kind of makes me sad. I used to play MUDs like 15 years ago. I know some of you won't know what this is, so I'll explain it like this: it' an MMO in the style of Zork. That is, it's completely in text and you read paragraphs that describe the room you are in and you type north or west to move in those directions. OP check out this website, I found it a few months back and I think you'll like it. It lists 6 different MMOs that are old and in danger of disappearing. There's also a video for each and the people interviewed are clearly passionate for their respective game. The first game ever made by Epic Games ZZT is in there. The videos give me a summoning salt vibevibess and I loved them and I watched them all in one sitting.preservingworlds.net
>>12680263Thanks to its unforgiving PVP system, Tibia attracted the worst subhumans you could think of.
>>12680263Means.tv is gay. If you want to learn about ZZT, just visit zzt.org. Dr. Dos has made it his life's mission to be the last ZZT guy standing
>>12680921The constant resource competition is an annoying issueOne spawn back in the day had 2-4 people on it...It's very annoying to constantly adjust/walk back because someone cleared a part of it.Deaths wouldn't be so bad if only items and a bit of experience was at stake. You could plan around it and wear welfare gear (In fact, using high level gear was usually a detriment for a small gain)The biggest problem in death is skill loss. One death could set you back weeks skill-wise.If you had something like 90+, a death would literally set you back 3 weeks. If the first level 100 magic level died once, he would've lost an equivalent of 7 months of effort!!!That's why he was a show pony and rarely ventured far from safe zones. In short: it was a shitty game populated by swedes, poles and the worst of all: brazillians.
>>12680921>Tibia attracted the worst subhumans you could think of.Tell me about it...Paradoxically, Tibia is the most popular hardcore MMO right now, surpassing Albion Online, mogging mortal online failed attempts and even being twice as popular as fucking eve...29 years of MMO history and they couldn't topple a game literally named after an animal bone, without sound for 26 years of its history and archers being mislabelled as paladins. Why or how? that's beyond me.
I still play Furcadia
