Physical media used to be fine but it doesn't make any sense in 2026

>every single oop media triple or quadrupled in price within covid
>the demand is hilariously high no matter what niche and shit sell out asap
>limited gamer/black record/youtooz are all doing their bs "limited preorder only" on shitty ass product if you want a physical version
>ps5 games will soon cost 200$ used in 2028

Its funny because technically, people should have less money than ever (atleast 20-30% less) yet curiously everything became expansive and selling fast af. Are people just in debt or its just rich people buying everything? Shit doesn't make any sense

it was $100 for a game in the 80s and 90s. That's like $400 in today's money.

Dumb ass sony would be making a steady flow of cash by actually producing more discs of not just new games, but older as well for out of print stuff, especially if they already have the legal paperwork done to host the same games on PSN. Reprint some Silent Hills or Tron Bonne and they can instantly recoup a bunch of lost income from what new live service flop raped their coffers. Generally fucking retarded of them to end disc production completely in a world where god damn vinyl records are selling in Walmart and companies like Retro-Bit can make bank on new genesis carts. Buncha baffling morons.

Europe, America, and Japan are K-Shaped economies were entire mediums of multimedia are now exclusively marketed to the richest 25% of the population whose consumption of luxury and import goods has gone through the roof.

It could be argued that many of these goods would generate more profit for the stakeholders if prices were lower, but the customer base was roughly 60%-75% of the population, which is how things worked in the 90s and 00s, but it's much easier to milk people who spend $60 every time they walk into a gas station, $100 every time they walk into a restaurant, and $2000 every time they walk into a gaming/collectable store. It's basically just guaranteed income, whereas getting your supply chain and operations efficient enough to lower prices and expand the customer base exposes the corporation and investors to risks they view as unjustifiable.

We are also in the "Big Dumb" period of pop culture financially and credit wise in the United States. Half the country has a 7 year car note, is still paying for the iphone they had 3 iphones ago, is dumb enough to think the "free iphone on us" in the cell phone commercial is a real fucking thing, and owes Cash App or Apple's Bank tens of thousands of dollars, and pays Comcast an extra $30 a month to make their "in-home wifi" "more intelligent," which in the fine print literally involves paying Comcast extra to sell your browsing data.

People will throw stupid amounts of money at anything their peer group thinks makes them look like a big shot, in some demos that's betting thousands of dollars on sportsbetting apps, having the newest iPhone week 1 every year, and in "le epic gamer" circles that means $1,000 "gRaDeD" SNES games that were never even rare in the first place.

This is the Evercade's big time to shine!!

I'm expecting more stuff like this to take off to appeal to physical buyers who run out of places to go. Hell, i could see Sega producing some kind of hardware to do exactly that. They already gave their approval for new genesis Sonic carts, so now them doing something with their old hardware is on the table as well. There is money to be milked.

The psychology of the paypig is the pathological need to justify their waste of existence spent accumulating money instead of enjoying time. The needless aggressive spending legitimizes the excessive time spent slaving for their employer.

What if i get paid to sit on my ass and essentially get paid to enjoy my free time hobbies?
>>

It's never going back down, OP. Never.

You missed out and now you're mad.
>>

They don't want to canibalize themselves, which is why Nintendo offers old games on very unfavorable terms (with a monthly subscription thus making you pay them forever). They want you to buy the new stuff.
>>
>>12681132
But how are they going to milk money from those who don't buy the new stuff? I imagine that Atari 2600+ sold much better than their modern pc thing, since it was specifically sold to the old dudes who just want the shit they know and would not be willing to get into something new. Same reason the NES and SNES Classic editions sold like crazy to people that would never buy a Wii U.

Physical media used to be a sticking point for me but I'm honestly over it. Between emulation and piracy, games have next to no value now anyway. As long as I can keep my installers and emulate the rest I don't give a shit what the modern console paypigs do.
>>
It's never been more over.
It was a good run although really only the early 2000s were good to buy retro.
>>
If CD's count as physical media, then (locally available) hard disks do too.
So it's not dead and still makes sense?
>>
>>12681697
Nop, it was all decent untill COVID. You can literally see the curve on pricecharting on those and also guess from older facebook or instagram post of retro boutiques (or anything like vinyls dvd etc)

Everything went x4, as if the lower wage become 9000$ a month LMAO. Doesn't make much sense spending 200$ on Silent Hill 3, its not a rare or hard game to find. The demand just seems high way too high. Probably because of larpers
>>
>>12681132
maybe they should just sell what people want to buy instead of thinking they can dictate what people are allowed to want
>>
>>12682469
Stop being antisemitic

>"Physical media doesn't make sense!!!"
>All "digital" games are stored on physical mediums
What did OP mean by this?
>>
Physical media needed to die long ago. I’m sorry but it’s not the SNES era anymore where a cart could have a chip that made it run faster. Once CDs took hold, it’s just software, the physical media does nothing for me.

Thanks for the input, Mr. Goldstein.

If you actually explore console catalogs rather than continually gravitate to the same basic bitch shit then you'll find reasonable prices.
