I like to replay Link's Awakening every July. It's something I do every summer. This and FF6 are the two games that I played a lot of in the summer as a kid.

Anyone else have a specific game that you like to play during a certain time of year because of personal nostalgia?

Mario Sunshine, Link’s Awakening, Wind Waker and RE1/REmake for me.

I’m guessing you’re age 38-42. How close am I?
>>
no, if I really love a game I want to space out replays as much as possible so each time still has a bit of a magical feeling.

ffvii is my favorite game and I play it about once every 5 years. my last playthrough felt kinda routine though so I might need to wait a decade this time.

I'm actually the game

The Pikmin games are also good for spring/summer replays.

How tf do people replay the same games over and over like this? If I wait 10 years between replays it still feels like it's too soon. I haven't played FF7 since 2000 and it's still too fresh in my mind for a replay.

Zelda games aren't as long as your average RPG. Someone who has already played LA will probably beat it in around 20 hours on replays.
I haven't replayed LA in years and I remember most of it but there's always details you don't. Plus also it's the joy of just playing it. I always found LA very nice to play, swinging the sword, using the run boots, jumping

I actually did a few replays of Link's Awakening within the past few years, GB and GBC versions, but it felt like I went back to them too soon. My last play through before then was maybe 5 years prior. At this point it's a much shorter play through for me though so it was kind of alright anyway, but much bigger games like OoT or FF7 feel way more off putting.
On the other hand, doing immediate replays of a game can be interesting specifically because everything is still fresh in your mind.

I play a lot of fighting games and Tony Hawk in the summer. Those were always the go to when I was a kid: wake up, get a crew together and skate, eat, swim in the pool or go fishing, go to someone's house, play tony hawk/sf2/mk until dinner, go back out until dark or have a sleepover. Rainy days it was all vidya. I have nobody to play with anymore, but I still like playing them every day for a while.
In the fall I feel like I always try to play Wizardry 7. I have never beaten it but exploring the forest reminds me of hiking and exploring the woods.
In the winter I play Might and Magic 6. Something about the snowy areas and winter just feels right with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

This. The game itself is very enjoyable.

some games have replayability

I replay Pokémon Heartgold during the summer, since as a kid my parents sent me to a summer camp where I would play my DS with other kids and Pokémon Heartgold was the game I played the most at the time. Probably played it for hundreds of hours in just one summer.

Its funny how nostalgia works like that. I also usually go out of my way to play outside, under a tree or in the shade somewhere just because that was the environment I played in as a kid. That sort of thing really makes a difference, its less the game itself that im nostalgic for so much as it is the overall experience of being a kid and playing the games during a happier, simpler time. The game is just all I still have left of that.

This man knows how to enjoy some good vidya, that all sounds awesome. The experience of playing games at a friend's house in the evening after spending the whole day outside getting up to various activities is truly something special, it always makes the experience stick

I have distinct summer memories of playing Mario 2 before roller blading in the street everyday one summer.

I have memories from a few years later of stacking firewood in the summer while daydreaming about playing doom II

it's like 90% nostalgia.
for me i replay sonic 3 at least yearly, sometimes more than once. also curse of monkey island.
then again there's plenty of games that i played a lot when young that i just have no urge to replay as an adult (the N64 i probably spent the most time playing in the 90s but i just don't want to revisit them...i don't know why. i love the memories i have with the system but that's it)

Evermore. Game felt nostalgic even back in the day. Only later I realized he's supposed to look like marty mcfly.

You went outside as a kid, eh? Last generation that continued a maybe 10000 year or older cultural technique: Kids adventuring outside on their own.
>>
>>12682883
90s suburbs were just total free reign during the daytime when all the parents were at work, it fucking ruled. Jumping on trampolines, going to the local parks, the community pools, etc.
>>
>>12682894
Could you enter friend's houses at will during free roam?
>>
>>12682912
Within our circle of friends, yeah pretty much. One guy had the nice finished basement with its own separate snack and drink fridge.
>>
>>12682883
fucking around in the woods around our house with nothing but a big stick from a dead tree was some of the most fun i had as a kid outside of video games.

Interesting. I’ve always liked that the first RE game takes place in late July rather than a more typical fall setting.
>>
>>12682883
Heh Yea. I have been considering reproducing just so I can make my kid go outside and have a normal childhood

Secret of Mana in summer
Super Metroid between Christmas and New Year

Back when I got it, I must have played FF7 4 times in the span of 2 years.

Nowadays, there's only a handful of games I replay every 5 years or so for nostalgia and they're light on story : Dune 2 PC (though my last last playthrough was on Megadrive when an anon on /vr/ shilled it), HoMM2 and Price of Loyalty campaigns, Settlers 2 and Might&Magic 3 to 5.
>>
>>12681512
That's cool anon. I think it's good for the soul to have some games you replay once in a while as a ritual.
>>
>>12681512
How do u feel about the switch remaster? I picked up a copy of it since I never actually played the OG back in the day for some reason. Played the hell out of alttp tho and usually beat that once every 2 years or so.
>>
>>12683812
Not OP, but I really like the new art style plus being able to map items to the additional buttons. It does have a lot of framerate drops on the standard Switch though. It runs rock solid on Switch 2.
>>
>>12681512
Why would you replay a game
