Post airships from games, bonus points for games no one talks about any more.

Secret of Evermore has like 5 places you can land your airship on. Really feels like a half baked inclusion.

The free roamable overworld was added last minute and the map was cut about 30%. I'm really considering starting a spritiual successor.
>>
>>12682905
I read that too but couldn't find a good source for that. Most retro facts like that are straight fabrication.
>>
>>12682908
It's true, especially about evermore. The studio existed briefly and afaik soule isn't too happy with evermore.
>>
>>12681794
Can the humor and atmosphere be pinpointed? I find it absolutely unique.

iirc Super Mario Bros. 3 has multiple airships
>>
>>12682913
Got a original source for it then? Soule made the music and read everything he had to say about Evermore and never said anything about cut content.

>>12682914
Boomer nerd culture. MST3k is in the same style of humor/dialogue

For Secret of Evermore I can believe it's real, because the head programmer Brian Fedrau posted online a bunch as It's Bill's Fault on place like GameFAQs and elsewhere. He at least mentioned that one of the islands had something planned for it, but went unused.

>Fedrau
*Fehdrau I mean

He also uploaded the commercial and commented on YouTube sometimes

>>
>>12682924
Yeah so like most retro facts are just distorted real life events. So then cutting the island got turned into the rumor that >>12682905 talks about.

No way Mode 7 map stuff wasn't part of the design from the start. Square basically said to make it like secret of mana
>>
>>12682931
Oh yeah, you're right. The specifics of "The free roamable overworld was added last minute and the map was cut about 30%" seems fabricated/distorted. I misread that when I wrote "I can believe it's real," I just meant there being some cut content/ideas with the map seems to be real.
>>
>>12682935
Yeah, I know it's autistic but it's a pet peeve of mine. Lotta stuff like that around retro games. Especially when you have original devs repeating rumors in interviews they do 30 years later when any interview done during the release window contradicts what they are saying now. John Romero is real good for that

I really like how, since Evermore was a Western developed game, we see the devs pop up more online with random info.
https://rainwoodworks.blogspot.com/2010/09/secret-of-evermore-was-one-of-my.html

Brian Fehdrau and Alan Weiss both posted in the comments of this blog for example.
>>12682941
Yeah I totally get it. It's not just a problem with games either, I research martial arts history as a hobby and that's also full of people repeating fabrications that became commonly accepted as true despite no actual evidence.
>>
>>12682954
Of course stuff from old Japanese devs is more visible too now, with auto translation and them posting on Twitter.

The absolute GOAT. The impact this game (Skies of Arcadia) had on me cannot be understated. If only we got the theorized midsize ship between the upgunned fishing vessel of the Little Jack, and the Star Destroyer of the Delphinus.
>>
>>12682954
For sure, so much misinformation out and around. Another good one is Resident Evil being a Sweet Home a remake and basically everything Shinji Mikami has to say about anything really.

Also, while i don't want to steal any martial art valor I love fake martial art history. Frank Dux type of stuff
>>
>>12682983
which version do you recommend? The original on DC or the GC version with more stuff but shit audio?
is there a definitive version mod to import DC audio to GC version?

As far as I know, nobody has ported the DC audio. The real reason you don't want to play the DC version is the random encounter rate is bananas. It's rough enough trying to find all the Discoveries and getting paused every time a battle starts, but it's even worse on the DC. My recommendation would be to play Legends on GC, then listen to the DC soundtrack afterwards on your own time so you get the experience but it doesn't feel strange while playing.
>>
>>12681794
I'm playing SoE now. Not really enjoying myself. I had more fun with SoM.
>>
>>12683145
I've played the GC and DC versions back to back, I don't think the encounter rate is different.
>>
>>12682921
It's true that most retro "facts" are a fabrication.
>>
>>12682921
Boomer nerd culture?
>Baby Boomer nerd culture is the foundational era of modern fandom, marked by the invention of personal computing, the golden age of sci-fi blockbusters, and the early days of table-top gaming
How is this evermore?
>>
>>12682954
Are they making new games and why don't they jump the seeds of nostalgia ks trend?
>>
>>12683160
Music, atmosphere, tone are unique. No need to press along if you dislike it. I lol'd when I saw terra and locke in evermore.
>>
>>12683145
The random encounter rate is the same on gc as it is on dc. Someone just made it up to make the gc version look better.
>>
>>12683201
Are you quoting AI summaries? Jesus dude come on.

Boomer wnrd culture is referencing movies. Like the Boy does is evermore. Also the settings, classics mid 50s American nerd stuff.

Does this count? It's an (air) floating pirate (ship)
>>
>>12683208
I was curious if it's an established term I never heard of.
>classic 50s nerd stuff
Like these penny books or movies he mentions?
>>
>>12683128
Both are good
>>
>>12683217
Yeah, stuff like that. Even the setting is classic boomer shit. Prehistoric, Egypt, Knights, and Space stuff.

Going on a deep rabbit hole about this now. Kind of curious the other topic in this thread is about retro game myths. Seems this idea might come from the battles taking longer to load in on the DC, and the fact you can get the White Map much earlier in Legends. Well, might be time for another game, maybe I'll give the DC (emulated) a shot.
>>
>>12683224
I always find the original versions better. Especially with Dreamcast ports. The Sonic Adventure port to GC sucks.

>>12683267
How to translate evermore in today's time? Like cross code, but minus lesbio?
