SMW's non-existent difficulty makes sense when you view it from the perspective of a beleaguered tech-junky salaryman.They would ride this shitty wooden platform in a "coin heaven" secret level and think, "woarw, this is the most physics I ever seen, miyamoto-sama is a genius"And who could blame them? This kind of physics and momentum in a video game was practically unheard of at the time.

I finally made my gf, a gen Z who grew up on ps1 and ps2, play Super Mario World, I chose World because I deem it the easier of the retro Mario games to get into.Well, she was completely crushed by it and got super frustrated. She was able to barely make it through Yoshi's Island 2 but starting from YI3 she wasn't able to beat ANY level, I also keep reminding her to use the run button to jump longer but I don't know, she can't grasp it.I keep beating levels (we were playing 2 player mode) and by the time she tried Donut Plains 3 she gave up.I then gave her my 3ds and she played New SMB2 and had a much easier time with it, started beating levels and got to the first castle all on her own.She's also not bad at video games but admittedly her expertise is puzzle games like Puyo Puyo, Dr Mario and Tetris.She also plays some survival horror games and FPSs, but I guess 2D action/platformer just isn't on her system.Still, it made me realize how SMW is only "easy" for those of us who played lots of Mario and platformers in general.The New series really was made with less skilled/experienced players in mind

Me and my sister tried 2P mode on her switch; she was getting filtered by the earliest levels whereas I was practically playing through the game solo every time she died on increasingly harder and harder levels and I went on clearing them.I told her, SMW just wasn't truly made for an enjoyable co-op experience. The difficulty gap increases for someone who's hopeless, and they'll never actually get to enjoy the game. Lol.
