I can still go back and enjoy 16bit games. Even NES and Master System games still basically look and play how I remember them. But playing the N64 in 2026 just feels miserable. Am I better off just emulating these games now instead of playing on original hardware?

The N64 is really difficult to get back to if you haven't religiously kept playing.Even if you kept playing, the games are so shallow and generic, offering so little replayability, that you’d have to be mental not to play something else at this point.

Dunno, I still like the games I always liked: wave race, fzero X, 1080, mk64, goemon, bomberman.I don't think the lower FPS is a problem when the games were designed around it and is stable. I think wave race for example is 30 or maybe even less but it just feels smooth because what matters is not the number of frames, but the finetuning of controls accustomed to the set frames.It's why modern games aren't great despite all being ultrs hyped HD 15303fpsi
N64 was considered trash everywhere outside of the US during its heyday

Sega Saturn games still look nice today. N64 games looked shit since Dreamcast came out.

>>12683131Doubutsu no Mori is ironically one of the best looking games on the system. So much so that I believed the GameCube game was the original version before I knew it started on the N64. The blurry graphics just work with that game's art style really well.

As for frame rate idk dude, if you play it for a while you'll get over it. People on here exaggerate so much banjo tooie and other games have POCKETS little pockets where the frame rate drops, if you viewing the game from a diagonal angle the framerate drops if theres a lot of enemys on screen the framerate drops.

Tombraider on ps1 can jump between 25 to 30 fps and still look smooth.Treat it like an Amiga polygon game and accept that there will be slowdown, even treat it as a challenge to make as much slowdown as possible, have a laugh. With Gamecube it went the other way having the smoothest framerates of the generation.

You do want a little blur.The HDMI adapter that I have makes it look good, the one my dad has makes it look worse. Ideally set your HDMI to a lower setting. There's no point is HDMI 4k when it is a 428i input.
