i purchased the sega activator and it is unbelievable this thing actually released. of course as a retarded kid i thought you would just punch and kick and the character would actually do your moves. instead you just do all these convoluted movements that correspond to buttons on the controller and there is just no way its going to accomplish anything. actual motion controls suck ass even when they work - with the activator you dont even get that. at least it came with eternal champions. i also really wanted to get one of those rumble backpacks in the mid 90s. kaybee toys had one on a shelf behind the counter and its another thing i imagined being awesome that of course sucked ass im sure. what were some of the shitty accessories/gadgets/add-ons you bought?
>>
Those 3rd party n64 Memory card rumble combos. Bought one with my n64 back in the day, first one wouldn't stop rumbling. Exchanged it for a new one, but save files kept getting wiped. Swore off 3rd party accessories after that, never looked back.

I had one of those as well. It actually worked well IIRC, but it was humongous because the rumble and memory paks were separate (you connected the memory pak on top of the rumble) and each was bigger than the official ones from Nintendo, so together it was one big bulky mass that weighed the controller down.
>>
>>12684028
>i also really wanted to get one of those rumble backpacks in the mid 90s
I had one as a grandparents gift. The damn thing only ever worked once and shook so hard that it made me feel like I was getting tackled from behind. Trust me, you didn't miss anything.

The Sigma Designs ReelMagic MPEG Decoder card.
First PC I ever got was a 486, and I had no idea what I was doing. I managed to get a decent system with a solid VGA card and SB or SB clone, worked great for just about everything. But I got an add-on card for the machine that I regretted not long after. It made sense at the time, FMV gaming was the hot new thing everyone was doing, and I wanted my new PC to be ready to handle the new games, even if I didn't much care for FMV games. I figured every game was gonna have FMV shit, better be prepared. And while it did come true, it was in a way that no game really needed a special card to do the FMVs.
The card hooked into your VGA card, overlaying the FMV onto the screen in real time. And less than 10 games are confirmed to ever have ReelMagic-compatible versions released to take advantage of the card. Dragon's Lair and Return to Zork are probably the two biggest name titles released with compatibility and were the most enhanced by it, DL being full-screen 640x480 30fps video when every other PC port was shrunken screen 15fps or worse, and Return to Zork actually having full motion video in just about every conversation instead of a few cutscenes. KGB had a version, but it only adds a FMV video at the beginning of the game.
For the longest time the only way to play ReelMagic versions of games was to actually own a working ReelMagic setup including the special connector cable that hooked it to your VGA card, but a few years ago someone made a fork of DOSbox that emulates the MPEG decoder card well enough that the available games work. At the very least, if you're a Return to Zork fan you owe it to yourself to play the ReelMagic version, since it's the best version of the game available.
But yeah, shit add-on, not worth the time or the RAM the driver ate up.
>>
I guess it was more of a system but not really even at all. The Tiger R Zone.

I bought one of those third-party expansion paks because it was cheaper. The piece of shit would crash constantly, even in games that didn't use the extra RAM. I avoided using it as much as possible, only popping it in when absolutely required.

this combination of jeans, socks a shoes is particularly bad.
as for your question, this picrel abomination for N64. game music and sound didn't work so it had the same unnerving short track on repeat. later models had working sound but i wasn't so lucky

heh i had this too

It's kinda soul how minimalist this backdrop is. They didn't even make an effort to create a fake living room setup. Just a cheap old table, a tv, and a guy who sort of looks like that one actor who stars in action movies that only seem to appear at the movie rental store.

Yeah, same experience with the Activator. It taught me not to trust advertising as a kid. First major disappointment like that.

Rebound Mission. i couldn't remember so i had to look it up. didn't even remember it including a game haha

I got this one in 1993 and it kinda sucked. But it looked "cool." So thanks to this experience I avoided stuff like Nintendo Bazooka and other gimmicky things.
>>
>>12685042
What was it supposed to do?

nta but i had something similar. you were supposed to say "fire" (anything worked) into the microphone and it would spray water

Some cheap plastic light for GBA that you were supposed to snap on the screen (felt brittle from day 1). It also had a magnifying glass for some fucking reason.
>>
>>12684252
Didn't these use the same exact circuit board as OEM paks though?
>>
>>12684028
One of those piece of shit game boy add ons with the fold out speakers, shitty magnifying glass, light that didn't work, the crappy button covers and the shity thumb stick that goes over the dead that didn't work right and would push the whole thing off the gameboy if you pressed it too hard.
>>
>>12685623
Yes, either OP had a defective unit or is just making shit up so he has a story.
>>
>>12685623
Some third-party expansion paks were officially licensed. Supposedly, those worked fine. Others were a mixed bag.
>>
>>12685042

super scope 6 was actually fun though - for about a weekend
>>
>>12684058
S3 Virge thinking it would be good, at least it was cheap.
FMV was something that was around the corner for about 5 years and was eagerly awaited then the only games people cared about was 7th guest and Myth.

Yup as it turns out trying to sit in a chair while wearing a shitty bass speaker in a hard plastic backpack actually sucks ass.
Still better than that Activator thing though since you could hook it up to whtever audio source you wanted and get some novelty out of it.

Had I done a bit more research and found out it would require special versions of the game made just for the card, I would have known to avoid it. Still, it did give best version of Return to Zork.
Return to Zork (Floppy disk) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB-UEJjf7oA
Return to Zork (CD-ROM) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCimuf6F6C8
Return to Zork (ReelMagic) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-emIOAQvZI
The floppy video skips over the intro, but I can't recall if the floppy version even bothered with the intro. The difference is clear in the first screen alone. The Floppy and CD-ROM have a rough animation for the vulture flying in, the ReelMagic version uses a much higher frame-rate animation or a video. Floppy version has the Monty Python moving mouth on picture look for the opening video with the wizard in the orb. And the video in the CD-ROM and ReelMagic versions differ, with the CD-ROM video being a bit choppy while the ReelMagic video looks much smoother. Later on you can see other situations where the CD-ROM version used the moving mouth trick on some videos, while the ReelMagic version uses actual videos.

didn't have any friends to play with (wired or wireless), so I thought if I buy this thing I'll be able to just browse for pokemon matches in my entire town. Yeah turns out that's not how it works. Used it once to play against some weird kid who thought it would be the funniest shit ever to use it on the shitter while I stand outside.

Wireless adapter for the xbox hueg. Unreliable and didn't support WPA out of the box, even years after WEP was declared insecure and obsolete before its release. A third party wired to wireless adapter or even fucking powerline networking would've been a big upgrade over this POS.
>>
>>12687003
It was an auto include in fire red leaf green. If you bought it separately, my condolences.
It was mostly useless. I recall it not even working for other games when we got it. We did a few pokemon battles and my friend's dad thought it was the coolest shit. Then we tried mario cart gba and got peeved about it when we had to go back to regular link cables.

I remember finding some random person in the Union room while walking outside my house, but after like a minute they were gone. I imagine in Japan it'd be cool on the bus if enough people had one.
