How ambitious was the Dreamcast?
>>12684312>how ambitiousnot very. if it had the same amount of RAM as NAOMI the games would have been far better
>>12684323better specs =/= better games
>>12684312AI-generated question.
>>12684312>GD-Rom>Zip disk So many formats but no DVD drive. Too bad, so sad.
>>12684326yes. better specs=better games. RAM was a massive bottleneck on that machine. it had to constantly load shit from disc, you dense cunt.
>>12684338>yes. better specs=better gamesNo.Better gameplay = Better games.
>>12684339you have no idea what you are talking about. you're just a rambling moron that would test if 120/240v power supply is live by shoving a fork into the socket. but i forget at times that you morons on this board are so dull and stupid that you have no idea how electricity works
>>12684340>No counter argument>has to resort to insults You have to be over 18 to post here
>>12684312>How ambitious was the Dreamcast?Very. It was by far the most powerful 5th gen console.
>>12684348It was a 6th gen console.
>>12684350it was a 5.5 gen console, like a PS1 Pro
>>12684401No, it was 6th gen.
>>12684423Wikipedia also says the ColecoVision was 2nd gen and the SG-1000 was 3rd gen when they were literally the same hardware, but different regions. The whole generation thing is fucking retarded.
>>12684430That doesn't mean the Dreamcast is a 5th gen console
For 1998? A lot
>>12684432Disregard the entire concept of a console generation. The focus should be on games, not consoles.
>>12684436So you're ceding the argument?
>>12684338Wow, you really think that Barbie's horse adventure is better than Pac-Man?
The original dreamcast/saturn 2 as perceived by the dumbfucks at SoA would have indeed replaced the Saturn as Sega's 5th Gen console, but SoJ resisted that stupidity as long as they possibly could. When they realized no amount of time or money would ever get those idiots to actually market the Saturn properly in North America their hand was forced and production started on the dreamcast we got, the first 6th gen console.SoJ literally couldn't comprehend how hard SoA was trying to kill Saturn until they came to America and saw their dumbass Sonic PC game first hand.
>>12684323It also would have been $799, following the success of the 3DO.
>>12684350For the majority of its lifespan it competed against other 5th gen consoles.
>>12684491>It also would have been $799, following the success of the 3DO.great. 3do's specs were fucking cancer compared to dreamcast or dreamcast with same amount of ram as NAOMI so that's a ridiculously retarded comparison to make. and also:>the morons of 4chan completely forgot about how the dire lack of RAM killed the sega saturnlooking forward to next "what if mental illness can save consoles designed by retards" thread.
>>12684430It's part hardware progress and part market presence/competition.
>>12684721The reference to the 3DO was about the price, you can't possibly be this numb-skulled. Go look up what a new NAOMI cabinet cost back then. They had that amount of RAM because that's what was possible with the Dreamcast's price tag.
>>12684326Good argument. If you don't invest in putting great games on it it's a dust collecting box. It's the only thing that matters. Specs can be any shit as long as it has good games.
>>12684326Holy shit this so fuckinf much!>muh 22hmz>muh transparency >muh load times>muh Vaseline>muh texture warpAll need to kill themselves
>>12684345Because it is genuinely rude to be so insanely ignorant.
>>12684312Wow sturdy zipette hands wuz the future all along
>>12684312Business wise very ambitious, they basically gave up on the Japanese Saturn which still had some legs to revitalize the Japanese arcade and Western markets.
>>12687161>they basically gave up on the Japanese Saturn which still had some legsNo it was completely dead by 98
>>12684323>>12684338Pretty sure the extra RAM in NAOMI arcade chipsets was just so it could load the entire game into memory for obvious reasons since it was meant to be running constantly at an arcade. Otherwise the Dreamcast GD-ROMs ran identically to their arcade counterparts.
>>12687340>Pretty sure the extra RAM in NAOMI arcade chipsets was just so it could load the entire game into memory for obvious reasons since it was meant to be running constantly at an arcade. Otherwise the Dreamcast GD-ROMs ran identically to their arcade counterparts.Regular NAOMI systems use cartridgesWhat you're describing is more like the NAOMI GD-ROM, but this uses an additional DIMM board the GD-ROM's content is loaded into at startup, which has nothing to do with the additional RAM even cartridge NAOMIs have over the Dreamcast
>>12687409Still though, Dreamcast arcade ports appear to be identical aside from the console load times obviously.
>>12687414Except for the games that aren't on DreamcastThey did double the main RAM and VRAM for literally no reason. Why would they do that?
>>12687340>>12684763>>12684871>good argument>as the samefagging schizo pretending to be intelligent gets man handled by everyonePretty sure you're just a dumb fucking retard that has no idea about how anything works>so it could load the entire game into memorylol. wrong memory, you stupid cunt. you need to stop using ai slop engines to generate text for you. you're still embarrassing yourself on a daily basis, lolcow lmao
>>12687417They didn't*I'm tired
>>12687418I’m >>12687340 but not the other two. What was the extra RAM used for then? What are some examples?
>>12687425>what is extra RAM used for thenthe RAM you got wrong has nothing to do with the RAM used by video/audio/system. stop replying to people on this board. you're so fucking dumb that it's amazing to witness. read a wikipedia page, dumb cunt.
>>12687428I’m not denying I was wrong, but it seems to me that it didn’t seem to make a big difference when it came to the Dreamcast getting arcade perfect ports.
>>12687431>If I keep replying with AI generated slop it really looks like I am having a serious conversation instead of being laughed at because I am a lolcow
>>12687440God, you people are so weird sometimes.
