Don’t call me a gay faggot but was there any reason they didn’t render the guns on screen??
Dunno but I definitely liked it this exact way (in R6 too). Raven Shield got the guns but thanks to a mod models could be removed.
>>12684967You zoomers wouldn't know, but back in the days us millennials had to use our imagination to fill in the gaps in video game graphics. You just imagined there was a gun there.
Omitting visible guns in an FPS is like omitting the car in a racing game. Who the fuck wants to play as a flying camera?
>>12684998this>>12684996imagine pong without the paddles then
>>12684996>Back in my day we had to pretend the videogame was therelmao sonlet's pretend you'll be remembered
>>12684967No idea, gayfag.
Ghost Recon is a comfy game!I really enjoy the slow methodical gameplay. My all time favorite is Hidden and Dangerous 2, too bad it doesn't have the diversity of the environments like the first one.
>>12684967It's a role playing game where you play the role of the gun. Seriously though it's probably that they don't want to put guns up without animations and the animations along with the guns would be distracting. It's more important in this game to see what's in front of you.
Because the first person model of your gun jutting out in the corner of the screen is actually some goofy ahh shi and Ghost Recon didn't need it
>>12684967Because irl you don't see the gun either, you see thru your eyeballs which contain no gun
>>12684998>omitting the car in a racing gameBut that's the best way to play. FPS view, uncluttered interface. I wish I had an invisible car with a HUD in real life.
>>12684967Usually in cases like this it's because rendering the gun with full lighting would tank the fps or something
Probably just because at the time, Clancy games wanted to be closer to a "simulation" rather than a game so it didnt need to be immersive. That was being shed immediately after Rainbow Six though so Ghost Recon was just the last holdout for that concept. Surprisingly doesn't bug me when I play
>>12684998>any shooter>"why am i just a gun and a camera?"
>>12685032it is, something soothing about waddling through knee deep swamp marsh while rain is falling, and keeping an eye out of bogeys on the radar. ghost recon to me is the epitome of that meme where the military guy in a comic says "i like the way this sucks"
>>12685086Wrong.From a mechanical standpoint, bumper view is essentially tunnel-vision. Human eyes are not like that. From an aesthetics standpoint, chase cam > hood cam > cockpit cam > bumper cam
>>12685249Holy god the retardation. You obviously dont know what you're talking about just stfu bruh
>>12685316I'll say this only once: You're incorrect, a retard, and you should end yourself.
>>12684967Rainbow six had dozens of guns all with different sights. Each gun had a 3d model when held by your squadmates or enemies, so you could see them close up that way.The game was all about positioning, timing, angles and using breaches and flashbangs to win anyways.
>>12684967Guns didn't feel meaningfully tacticool pre-ironsights, so they opted for a greater variety of guns instead.
>>12684967you don't see your gun when you hipfire irl.
The game has great gun sfx and impacts feel meaty, making the shooting actually Downright Kino despite lacking silly little viewmodel graphics
>>12684967For me, it's the PS1 FPS where the screen intersects the gun and you can see inside the polygonally rendered gun.
technical limitations and effort mainly. Modeling 3D weapons was a lot harder and more hardware inefficient back then than it is now. keep in mind the first rainbow six started development before half life and Quake II using a custom engine. At a certain point they realized leaving the weapons out allowed them to get crazy with the weapon selection. The amount of weapons in Rainbow Six was absolutely unheard of at the time. Especially Rogue Spear. Ghost Recon was built off the same engine so they just said fuck it. It's worth noting that when they did first introduced weapons models they looked like absolute dogshit. R6 Ravenshield has fucking atrocious looking weapon models. Some of them look like a 3 year old scribbled the textures in MS paint.
>>12685069Yes you do. You see the gun when you look down the sites and hold it at low ready. Ground Branch is the most accurate looking game in terms of perspective of shooting IRL.
>>12684967you're a gay faggot
>>12684967Along with all the reasons already stated you also increase FPS because polygon budget. MoH on ps1 would hide your weapon render when too much was going on-screen.In original GR this bugged me only in the beginning. You quickly got used to it and all guns sound different enough. Also great game, especially on xbox. Shame about Desert Siege not making it in proper form but rather in DLC in slightly different form.
>>12684993>Raven Shield got the guns but thanks to a mod models could be removedRemoving the first person weapon models is actually in the options settings, no mods required
>>12684967that game was boring i put it down after like 10 minutes of playing it ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
>>12685050>ahh>shiDie.
>>12687950nope, kys faggot and grow some skin
>>12685050diabolical fr
>>12687950kill yourself, faggot
>>12688135>grow some skin>can't say ass>can't say shit
>>12688764you need to add some wrinkles to your membrane nephew
When you think about it, seeing the gun model serves no purpose.
>>12688804you need to reduce some wrinkles in your membrane, unc
>>12688804Functionally no, but neither do backgrounds, character models, and especially music. You could just have a black screen, you control a white dot, red squares show up from time to time, you have to move your white dot into one of the red squares and push a button, basically the same game.
will jacobs mains where you at
>>12684967There were probably too many different models for the PS1 to handle. Same with Rainbow Six.
>>12684998I prefer hood view in racing games, but most don't support it.
>>12688982Well put. I despise that reductive "it's not required" view, whatever the term for that would be. Third world mindset?
>>12688998>PS1
>>12689007Oh, you're right. But it was the same engine, wasn't it?
>>12684967it just made sense for a more simulator oriented game. more complexity, more guns, baked in assumption of seriousness and less need for eye candy frills.
>>12688824People think I'm 20, wrinkled balding zoomer keep coping.>>12688982No I don't think it's the same, just like a car game is perfectly playable when you play in cockpit view even IRL you don't see that much of your own gun when using one compared to how games dedicates 1/3 of the screen to showing it.
>>12688982>You could just have a black screen, you control a white dot, red squares show up from time to time, you have to move your white dot into one of the red squares and push a button, basically the same game.>Implying you need anything more.
>>12689000Hood view is based, especially if it shakes with the engine underneath it.>t. chasecam chad
>>12689817>You need to listen to my calls sanjayWhat game?
>>12689820V-Rally 2
>>12689823Thanks so much, you a real one. I've been getting into rally games lately and that looks like fun. Sega rally championship is kicking my ass
>>12689827I also recommend Namco's Dirt Dash and Colin Mcrae 1.
>>12685005Damn, I didn't know the entire game was a gun model, thanks for the info doc.
>>12684967People will say it helped save on FPS, but the real reason is because it obscured more of your screen, and the designers didn't like that. I think in the original versions you could see your gun on screen, but they reasoned that all's it did was distract you and obscure potential enemies in your field of view, so they got rid of it.If you absolutely need it, there's a hack for Ghost Recon that lets you see your gun, which also gives you full body awareness.
>>12684967Devs were too dumb and didn't know how to implement it properly.
>>12689907>it obscured more of your screenThis is a symptom of weakness.Overcoming adversity for the sake of aesthetics is cool. That's why it's cool to use the coolest-looking weapons in a game even if they're not as effective as the strongest options.Cool factor > nerdy efficiency
