I'm a few stars in and liking this game so far. Although the slippery slide in the ice level was a bit challenging.
Is there anything I should know going in? Things to look out for?
>>
>>12685431
Just know how to use all the jumps
>>
>>12685431
There's odd teleports in some levels you may wanna look up.
>>
>>12685431
>Is there anything I should know going in?
Not really, the game was designed for people who had never played a 3d platformer.
>Things to look out for?
There are signs that you can read for hints. You can also talk to some characters.
>>
>>12685435
>look up secrets
You're a boring person.

Run around the posts a few times so they ejaculate coins.

If you look at the ceiling in the main lobby after getting 10 stars, you'll get to unlock the wing cap. You should be able to figure out everything else.
>>
>>12685431
You should read the manual.

>Is there anything I should know going in? Things to look out for?
I need someone to write a dissertation on the introduction of this phrase into the modern internet discussion. Its so baffling to me.

>Im about to watch the Sixth Sense, any twists I should be aware of going in? any clues I should be looking out for to solve the mystery before its revealed at the end?

>Im 30 minutes into the Godfather can we have a discussion about it? Man I really hope Sonny makes it to the end of the film hes such an interesting character.

How familiar are you with parallel universes?

anyone tried 64 plus on pc? how is it?
>>
>>12685484
I understand wanting to discuss some old media youre experiencing the first time. but holy fuck wait until youve actually played it first.

every copy of mario 64 is personalized

Hey guys I just tried drinking water. So far I really like it but does anyone have any tips?

Be sure to count the number of A presses as you play and try to keep them as low as possible. Half A presses don't count.

Try breathing while taking a sip for extra enjoyment.
>>
For the longest time I didn't believe that shit about yoshi on the roof because it sounded like the shit your friend's dad who worked at nintendo told you about.
>>
>>12685484
Comparing a singular, controlled experience with experiences that have infinite possibilities is a bit disingenuous, no?

I got advice before playing Dark Souls and if I hadn't, I probably would've dropped it. Dark Souls 2 specifically has a stat tied to i-frames that is not mentioned anywhere in-game
>>
>>12685431
Nah, you're fine, you can really just go in blind and you'll be able to make it to the end.
>>
>>12685473
I suppose THAT one isn't 100% intuitive, but it does still kinda give you a clue.
Otherwise, I can't think of anything else.
>>
>>12685431
you should know that there's a pc source port that removes any possible friction the game could have as far as sluggish walking adjustment controls and camera, in addition to avoiding n64 emulator weirdness.

TTC 100 coins used to be the hardest thing ever
>>
>>12686424
It makes a very obvious beam of sunlight appear there when it unlocks which is pretty hard to miss.
Maybe "modern gamer" wouldn't bother to push C up and look at it but still.
>>
I miss when games had cool secrets like Mario 64. Only Elden Ring has even bothered trying to keep game secrets alive, and everybody just combs the wikis so they don't miss anything anyway. Every other game just spoon feeds the shit out of you to your face
>>
>>12686452
I wanted to give benefit of the doubt, seeing as nothing happens if you were to look up towards that spot when you stand further away. Someone COULD hypothetically just not look at it a second time.
>>
>>12685431
The last star on Big Boo's level isn't attainable. It was put in as a practical "haunted" joke by the developers.

If you get all 180 stars, you can unlock Luigi.
>>
>>12686453
>t. only plays AAA slop
>conveniently ignores GTA and Red Dead series
>>
>>12686461
Yeah people don't totally use wikis for those either
>>
>>12685431
watch for rolling rocks
>>
>>12685431
will you find the 121 stars?
>>
>>12685459
I partially agree, but how else are you supposed to know to stand still in a random-ass spot for a second if you don't have a friend/brother/magazine telling you to do so first
>>
>>12686719
>random ass
There's a massive conspicuous light wave there.
>>
>>12685745
i still dont believe it.

I wasn't referring to the wing cap switch level, I assumed the original anon meant the warp points within the levels themselves, like this unmarked corner in Whomp's Fortress
>>
>>12686719
>>12686782
As a kid with infinite free time I just randomly stumble on them. I think thats what the devs intended, for it to be just a cool minor surprise.
>>
>>12686782
Bobomb battlefield teaches you to check in corners and shit for stuff like this.
No kid missed the warp shortcut up the mountain, and most found the warp in the flowers just by fucking around
>>
>>12685903
comparing dark souls to Mario 64 a game for toddlers is a bit disingenuous no? Do you not see how embarrassing you look? You are literally asking for tips on how to to put the square block in the square hole.
>>12686719
>supposed
you arent entitled to knowing all the secrets thats what makes them secret. God you people are fucking stupid.
>>
>>12685903
There really is a reasonable-sounding retard ready to pop up in defense of absolutely anything.
>>
>>12685431
You've already gone way too far and there's no redeeming your play effort at this point. For one thing, before you learned the name Mario, YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED whether there was anything you needed to know going in. We could have pointed you in the right direction then, but now it's much too late.
>>
Explore on your own
>>
>>12685431
You can beat the game with only 70 stars, don't force yourself to get stars you don't enjoy. Still, play as much as you can.

Do you have broccoli hair too?

Only zoomers drink water now?
>>
>>12685705
pass it through a RO filter first, then add some trace mineral drops and some magnesium bicarbonate. It's quite tasty with a splash of lemon juice.
>>
>>12688994
lazy pseudo-intellectual zoomer who probably plays on an emulator and savestates his way through the underwater treasure chest puzzle

gaming is about the grind, you're not supposed to enjoy everything
>>
>>12690153
>IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE GOOD
And you call me pretentious? Shouldn't you be making a Saturn thread right about now?
>>
>>12690157
being good or not good isn't the point, you didn't really play mario unless you got every star and did without cheating (that includes ingame teleports; if you used the shortcut to beat koopa in the footrace, you didn't really play)
>>
>>12690158
I am unsure if I'm dealing with a troll, but your earlier zoomer accusation betrays the fact you are a self-hating zoomer insecure about his own zoomerdom (many such cases on this board!), which is also corroborated by the fact savestates are the first thing that come to your mind when you think outrunning Koopa the Quick lol. I've been playing Mario 64 my whole life; it was my first ever game, on a PAL N64 unfortunately, but I've played it to death and the fact remains there are parts of the game that aren't that fun, which luckily are optional.
>>
>>12690162
unsure if i'm dealing with a zoomer who doesn't know what savestates are or trying to deflect because he can't beat koopa without CHEATING by using teleport shortcuts
>I've been playing Mario 64 my whole life; it was my first ever game, on a PAL N64
you've been playing it since you were an infant?
>>

>>
>>12685431
Side and lunge jumps are OP if you're creative how you use them. You can pretty much side jump into a wall jump to get more height and momentum.
>>
>>12685431
Assuming you're emulating the game, it's worth understanding the original system and what's changed compared to modern systems.

For the most part, it's the controller.
The N64 pad's analogue stick has a really long pivot compared to most other control sticks that came after it.
N64 software is calibrated around this large pivot, such as how easy it is to do smaller movements, so moments that call for tip-toeing are easier on the original controller but may be harder on modern controllers with smaller pivots (depending on how the emulator calibrates this).
>>
>>12685473
This also the hole in the moat outside. I could see someone losing their mind trying to figure those out.
