I was recently given a DOL-101 Gamecube by a family member. While I have been enjoying games on there, I was contemplating getting a DOL-001 Gamecube, mainly for the progressive scan feature and because I am using a modern TV.Is it worth it to get a DOL-001 Gamecube?

>>12686994Just be aware GameCubes are needing recaps lately, especially for the disc drives. Older models are likely to need it more. Progressive scan support isn't as widespread as you might hope and should look into homebrew for forcing it.. otherwise getting a wii is a great set it and forget it solution.

only wii original release is also a gamecube, dont just buy any wii
yes, you can get progressive from the model with digital out, but a wii gives the same result. gamecube component cables are expensive, and so are clones of the component cable. wii component isn't too expensive. you can also hack a wii or gamecube and dump the games (or just pirate the isos) and play on emulator at higher resolution. also, if you're going to be using wii or gcn over component, i've heard they use rec 601 color space even in progressive scan, so set your tv ypbpr color matrix setting accordingly if you can or you'll have slightly wrong colors. only you can decide what's worth it, but i'd say get a wii instead.

A DOL-001 is only worth it if you want to use HDMI. Gamecubes have one of the best HDMI options out of any retro console. Otherwise if the 101 isn't enough for you then you're better off just getting a Wii, the cables are cheaper and the CFW is better.
