I'm searching for ps2 or even ps1 with a modchip. I even found a local videogame store that sells old used consoles for about 150$ but they offer only stock versions and used games (often without a case or it's damaged or without booklet) that cost from 50 to 500$.

I would even buy one (or some chinese copy) but nobody seems to sell any modchips and doesn't offer such services although it used to be popular back then. I guess scalpers and hoarders ruined everything beyond and the only way to play is via emulation which I'm doing right now but I'd like to try out real geniune hardware just like I did when I was a kid.

First, don't bother if you don't have a CRT. Buying original hardware to use them on an flat HDTV is pure larping. With that said, consoles will only get more expensive from now on. You could use Tony Hax on a PS1, no need for modchips.

This is shitty advice. Get an OSSC or equivalent to get a pretty good image on an HDTV, using a console with a hardware mod feels authentic, burning CDs for a Ps1 is comfy AF too. There are some new modchips for PS1 that are pretty simple to install as they come with a ribbon cable that you just solder in a couple of places - anyone can do it. Look on aliexpress.

emulation is better. physical is for having a museum at your house. emulation is for actually playing games

I want to pirate big time Sony thread what about the old xploder or game shark cart for phat og and burn the last cds off. DVDs not so much I have seen them nao more expensive then Bleu rays

I do have one (Samsung Bio Vision), it needs a scart adapter.

Thank you, I'll order chips from aliexpress, hope they won't damage my console. Those scalers are pricey though.

I know. But I want to hold the actual thing just for once.

Consoles are expensive? I just bought a Sega Saturn for 100 dollars off eBay. I thought those things were expensive before I checked. It even comes with the box controller and hookups. I think certain games are expensive but the vast majority, especially popular games, are pretty cheap. Some psx games are outrageous like Parasite Eve or a Resident Evil 2, but a majority of games are damn cheap. Games like god of war or max payne are like 8-12 dollars on eBay. Unless it’s Nintendo, most games and consoles are pretty cheap from what I’ve seen.

oh okay, so i guess me having my ps2 connected to my widescreen lcd tv via scart cable back in 2004 because i wasn't poorfag was larping all along

Play pirated games on the original console.

I second this. If you don't have a crt you may as well emulate or get an fpga.

buy ones that are sold as "broken"
sometimes they're not actually broken and just have some minor issue that takes a minute to fix
>>
>>12687614
Consoles themselves are generally not that expensive, but original carts and discs can be very costly, so consider flashcarts and stuff.
There's no downside to pirating these games.

Upscaler is literally fine. Well, you can't play those cool light gun games on LCD, which sucks, but otherwise it's not a problem.

>>12687723
The truth is, the first anon was the larper all along.

Retro games look bad on modern displays.
>>
>>12687614
I see ps1 and ps2 all the time on fb marketplace for under 100$. I personally use original hardware soft modded with an hdd. Crt is ideal because you'll need an upscaler to make it look decent on a modern tv but they are overpriced as fuck
