I had a GameCube, Xbox and PS2 because I didn't grow up poor.
I had a Gamecube and two games, Resident Evil 4 and Wind Waker, because I was poor.BUT anyway, every kid I knew was either playing Fifa or GTA Vice City/San Andreas or maybe a WWE game. PC gaming isn't really a thing in the UK, maybe now, but not back then. Consoles ruled (and mostly still do) rule the UK market. I went to a friends house once and his older brothers room was like that guys room in American Beauty where it was a wall of VHS tapes except he had a wall of PS1 and PS2 games we weren't allowed to touch.

It even had multiple versions, I know of V1, V2 and V4.A lot of times, the games would boot too, so you'd be tricked into playing them only to be fucked later. In Soul Reaver the game freezes @ the first fight making you think something is wrong with the disc. Spyro had disappearing gems, eggs that couldn't be collected, RE3 and Dino Crisis would freeze.Of course, it baffles me that they spent money on that, we in the scene already preferred NTSC games. The only pirates that were truly affected by this were ones who had an older TV, that needed a receiver/converter in the middle if you wanted to play the game in color.

I do know Dreamcast got fucking raped by piracy though, but I dunno how much of that was an NA thing considering I didn't know Dreamcast even existed until like 2010. Worst case scenario the game had to have some FMVs recoded into a lower res with worse bitrate, dummy data removed or audio recoded at a lower bitrate and sample rate, to make the game's data fit on the disc. Initially you needed a separate boot CD for the swap trick (I'm talking extremely early days) but soon even that wasn't needed, as selfboot came included in every pirated game. All you had to do was put the disc in and turn the console on, and bam. The amount of games that needed such re-encoding is no more than 10, and even that's an overestimate.
Sonyggers were playing Socom. Killzone was considered shovelware by everyone untill the second game.

I think Halo 2 was awesome, but Killzone felt more like a tech demo. The PS2 didn’t have anything quite like Halo, though SOCOM was fantastic. Meanwhile, the GameCube had no online FPS games at all.
