GC has actual third party support and representation in genres that are completely absent on the N64. N64 might be the most overrated system ever thanks to mariosexuals and zeldasexuals. You can get a GC and not feel like you're missing out bigly in terms of having a varied catalog, even if inferior to the PS2 but no shame in that. With the N64 you have to gaslight yourself or admit you hate video games that aren't your favorite 3 games.

The N64 had more games that shifted how they make games, but aren't worth going back to. Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64 and all those did a lot for how game were made, but there's a reason that 3D collectathons aren't a genre anymore. Look at YookaLaylee or whatever it was. It flopped because people realized that 3D platforming collecting games just don't hold up.The n64 did have one of the best game ever made, though, Ogre Battle 64.Gamecube has more games that you can go back to, but didn't shape stuff as much. Evolution Worlds (technically a dreamcast port of two games glued together), Gale of Darkness, Pikmin, there's plenty of good stuff. The Gamecube had the problem of having a bunch of cult classics that people just didn't know about.
I was going to make a lengthy post comparing the two libraries and trying to objectively rate them, but then I remembered Gamecube has Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4. Gamecube library was better, hands down.

N64 had more games worth playing than the Gamecube. A lot of the games worth playing on the Gamecube ended up with ports to other systems or were multiplat with the Gamecube version as the worst version.

PSX was the console with all the games and everyone knew it. So when PS2 came out building on the PS1's success, taking a similar approach but with actual functioning 3d game engines, Nintendo was fucked. They had become the kiddie toy brand, not the mainstream dominant brand. The GameCube tried to be a generic mainstream console and just couldn't compete at that point, even with a better library than the N64 as a whole. Gamecube has the better third party games but only worth playing if you are a kid. Pretty much it's entire third party library is just like nickelodeon games and whatnot. Even then its incredible that it even had third party games at all compared to the N64.
