Which is the best Retro Castlevania game? Symphony of the Night is the most obvious answer but besides that game whats your favorite Retro Castlevania?
>>12688974SOTN is the only one I've replayed.
>>12688974>but besides that game whats your favorite Retro Castlevania?
>>12688974other than SoTN there is AoS and CoDanyoone who says Reddit of Blood or Contrarian of the Moon is a poser
I've not gotten around to the mazey ones yet (except Simon's Quest) so for me it's still Castlevania III (US version because I'm not broken inside in the way that fosters a preference for fuzzy-sounding FM synth). I doubt that this will change once I do try the mazey ones; they seem promising but my vague impression is that they will all end up being extremely easy and somewhat overlong. I'll probably like them enough to play through at least a few of them though, even if only for their music. The action-type ones I haven't played yet (of which there are a few) are more of a threat I think.
>>12689006>CoDLol the audacity to call someone else a contrarian
I keep forgetting time passes so more of the games are retro, but I'm a big fan of 3. 4 plays really well but X just looks amazing and really pushes the limit of SNES you could fool most people saying it's a PS1 game.I prefer metroidvaina so SOTN and the laters really are my fav.
I like 1, 3, and bloodlines
Best classicvania: Castlevania 3Best metroidvania: Aria of SorrowIt's that simple.
>>12689260>t. shameless CV64 defender
>>12688974AoS > SoTn > CoTm > HoD >>>>>>>>>>> "Classic" vania
Any Castlevania with responsive user driven combat is superior to SotN's trash prescriptive combat design, all of the Classicvanias have their own appeal, any answer is valid, today I feel like saying IV.
>>12689754All igavanias are more responsive than Classic "I walk like I just shit my pants" Vania
>>12689754Oh it's this schizo againShut the fuck up you stupid bitch
>>12688974Best is subjective. There are more good games than bad. What you need to avoid is the shitty phone games and 2 of the 3 OG Gameboy games.
>>12688974I really like the compacted and streamlined platforming adventure of Dracula X, and for Igavanias, I feel that Aria O Sorrow kind of did that perfectly. The only game in the series which I didn't like at all was Castlevania Legends on Game Boy, it was just really boring.
>>12688974I like the 1st game boy one because I didn’t have any of the NES games until I was 40 and bought retro collections.
SOTN is my personal favorite. On that note, here's an arrangement of Wood Carving Partita I just finished, for an octet ensemble.https://voca.ro/1fT5JbHP1kXo
>>12691513Pretty nice. Now do Stairway To Heaven.
1/SotN/HoD are honourable mentions
Rambo of blood
Castlevania 64 is one of the most underrated games of all time. It is hated by people who never played it but watched an internet video from a guy who also didnt play it and put it in as a joke segment in his series review. Or worse they tried to emulate it and act like that matches how the game feels on a real controller that it was designed for. It's a great Castlevania game.
I think we can go ahead and just get rid of this board. >which Castlevania is best>which MMX game is best>why does FF have so many translations/which one should I play>endless "handheld" generals for some reasonI don't even have reason to believe any of you are people at this point.
3, Rondo, SOTN, Aria
