What was the hype for Sonic Xtreme like? Did any of you buy a Sega Sarurn hoping for a new 3d mainline Sonic game? Was there any backlash when it got canceled?
>>12689840none, no, no, no.
There was no hype. Pretty sure everyone was talking about the dreamass, if not ps1/n64 before this was cancelled.
>>12689840most normies didn't know it existed and most nerds probably had moved on from this franchise.Sonic Adventure didn't sell well just because it was Sonic, but because it looked cool and impressive for the time
>>12689840>#What was the hype for Sonic Xtreme like?Nonexistent. I didn't know it existed until years after the fact.
>>12689840As someone who was there, there was a hype. MERCHANDISE was made with the Sonic X-Treme logo. The Sonic Christmas Blast Special was originally a tie-in. People Quiktimed the trailer. Then it just died and they moved on. I remember more hype for this than Sonic Adventure, which, yes, was hyped after the Japanese launch, but had less advertising until near release.People saying no are tired of the "what-if" discourse because let's be honest, it wouldn't have made a difference and would've been treated as a weird STI project like Spinball.
>>12689969I wonder what the reaction would have been if Xtreme came out, but it was the later Project Condor version. How much "wtf this isn't the same game from the trailer" would have gone on, etc.Watching the late PC build footage it looks like they were pretty close to "figuring out" the fisheye version, fix the weird ass jumping physics/animation and get some actually threatening enemies in there and it would have been a fun and interesting game.
>>12689840Few early screenshots that I saw as a kid looked realistic so ya I was "extreme"-ly looking forward to it

>>12689850There was a multi-issue (3-4 I think) development feature in Ultra Game Players up until it was canceled. I only read the first few but I was pretty hyped about it. I wasn't disappointed that it wasn't fully 3D since that was back when there were lots of different types of AAA games and Sonic hadn't disappointed up to that point.I don't remember it even being announced that it was canceled. Maybe it was but all of the game magazines at the time had way too many other things to cover for it to be made a big deal about. We were getting new Tekken, Resident Evil and Tomb Raider games, Super Mario 64, etc. The focus was on what was happening at the time, not on what wouldn't happen. Also I'd like credit if you quote me in your youtube video.
