as I said before, ps1 games, if emulated, have to be emulated at 2x the resolution, if you go beyond that, things will look off. It seems to be that all devs developed ps1 games at double the resolution. Combine 2x res with some CRT type shader and you are golden.

no, you are just retarded, 2x res is the Zenith of ps1 games, if you have a 4k tv and you put the game at 6x res or whatever level is 4K, the game will look boring because there is no detail there since the game wasnt created with that resolution in mind and everything is originally too low res to compensate. If you say ps2 games, then you can put them at 1080p (most ps2 games look their best at 1080p) and some do look way better rendered at 4K res, like Silent Hill 2.

You're confusing your own preference for developer intention. No, not ALL devs developed games at double the resolution, that's retarded in the first place, given there are actual PS1 games that ran at 448i so it was definitely a choice. Also running at twice the resolution will trigger interlacing in shader settings, unless you specifically set them to render at progressive which in that case you're even taking more of a shit on authenticity. high definition sharpness is no longer ps1 and games do look off, too pointy, too stretched, 2X resolution is where you can see text clearly like the devs had them in mind and highly likely, the resolution in which they developed all those games in their computers, to then downgrade the res to fit the ps1's limited capabilities.

AI upscale is not native rendering, AI is what a program thinks it could be, making it fake and not true to the art and characters. Native rendering is just matematically streching what is there and even then higher resolutions can make the games not look as intended. Don't listen to the sharpness retard saying 8x looks good, pfff

I have tried 2x and other res on many ps1 games, double the resolution is what they used when developing. A player's choice is not what the devs intended, like people stretching 4:3 to 16:9 without applying a hack, if so, then why ask for opinions and advice if its a preference what you think the guy seeks?
